This has been annoying me for the longest time (ever since 7 came out). But the question is, how can I keep NS from I guess you could say "deleting" my cache every time I close it? It seems like whenever NS crashes and I have to forcefully close it, then reopen it, it has to reload any site I go to. Like GT for example. My avatar and sig are at least 80% of the time have to be redownloaded in NS. Then other sigs have to be redownloaded into the temp/cache folder also. So is there a way to keep it from doing that? Thats the only thing that annoys the hell out of me in NS. (I wish I had cable, then I wouldnt care about this problem, but alas, I dont:()
*Edit* I just upgraded from 7.02 to 7.1. I'll see how well it does on keeping cache files or whatever. But give any help anyways, just in case.....
in prefrences, under history and coache, is there an option for 'Empty on Exit' ?

??? ok ill give u the mozilla being good but netscape over ie *shakes head
netscape is by far not my fav.
but at least the newer netscape is keeping up with the times. IE is like the same as its always been. theres nothing new besides its look changing.
its slower, and far less options.
I love Opera tho. and they even been adding code to it so websites that are made with the poor code for IE will look right on thiers. Even tho they shouldnt have to because people shoulda just made the websites correctly to begin with.

options arnt everything theres alot more options on steel batallion then halo but halo is better
acutally i find theres more options on halo. options arent just something in a list. they're options of things to do. and i find a wider variaty of things to do as you wish in halo.
HOWEVER, this isnt a game. and a plane browsing program that does little effort to make itself better or improve just dont cut it.

from what i seen its very good.
its for mac isnt it?
IMO i still like opera a bit better =) i got my opera on my Windows and Linux. hehe

Well, this is all I see. THere isn't an Empty on Exit option in NS 7.1. Mozilla might have it, but I haven't downloaded it yet.

Jeff, you can't get me to convert. IE is horrible. MS can't get with the times and make a FRESH looking browser, kind of like what Null said.
Also, I included an attachment to show what I'm seeing since NS's preferences are probably different then Mozilla's.
I think I might've solved my problem. I tell NS to compare cache page to current page loading only when the server says its out of date. (When the Page is out of Date option on NS's cache)

and look how easy it is to do that in ie. its simple and easy so what if ns looks fun and bubblie its just how it looks. looks arnt everything
IE sure seems to think looks are everything.
thats why MS can only change the look of IE a little bit since Windows 98.
But hey, MS has it right there, Why try to fix crap? your hands just get all messy. ;)

I know looks aren't everything, but I just don't like IE. If I had XP on this machine (can't because the video card is horribly bad), I would take out IE. I don't want to in 98 because it would die if it didn't have IE on it.
So say what you want Jeff, you can't convert me:D

Let's see...The look hasn't changed much (I like when something is changed once in awhile, looking at basically the same thing for 5 or more years gets old), IE has so many security holes (along with its "mother" Windows) which is why I don't trust MS products because there are at least 50 security updates before its out for a year (at least it seems like 50).
So I don't care what anyone tries to say, I'm not using IE. *puts foot down*:burger:

poor delusonal man
delusonal? talkin bout yourself there man.
IE is poorly made, slow, and yes it does have one sucurity issue/hole one after another.
thing is. untill MS decides to actually update the damn thing, bring it up to times. fix its issues, add the new idea's that have made browsing easier on other browsers (aka, tabbed windows for one) then IE is just no where near the top of the list as far as browsers go.
hopfully MS will decide to actually make a new IE for thier next operating system. (which is kinda the problem tho. if IE was its own program, instead of just a part of windows, then they'd have people working at it and updating it and improving it.)

:hmm: :shakehead poor poor men
lol. indeed you are.
actually man. im sure some will speak up sooner or later, pika would defently make mention of how IE sucks. but if you look around at past threads .... the IE vs everything else argument has been done to death. 'MOST' people (not saying you, but just most) only use it cuz its default and they have blinders on concerning anything else.
i mean we have one company MS, who just throws in IE just so it does the basics, other companies focus on thier browser and adds much more.
Quote from Pika in past thread. ;)
Netscape is OK... but other browsers like Mozilla and Opera are better IMO.
Mozilla may be a little more bloated that Netscape (they both use the same/similar rendering engine) but it does have lots of lovely little features, like the pop-up blocking which is even better than the ones in Opera.
Opera is much faster than Mozilla, and uses less system resources, but it either isn't free or you have to put up with an ad. I love Opera so much though that I'm going to buy it. especially since it's available for Windows, Mac, Linux, BeOS and Symbian OS (used in remote controls, amongst other things).
All three of the above knock internet explorer into a cocked hat. I've "uninstalled" IE on my Windoze partition, and have tried to diasble all the stuff that isn't essential for the OS (sigh). I've not used IE in over two months... opera will now do everything I need.
As long as people stop using IE, I'm happy :)
ah well tho, im not tryin to make you switch browsers hero, but believe me, its not us that are the 'poor people' here. ;)

I will gladly speak up and say that IE is also horrible on Mac. Netscape isn't too great either but it's better than IE. So I use Safari (which is beside the point but why waste a great opportunity to promote an Apple product). :D ;)

To answer your question Jonbo, for example when Mozilla Firebird crashes it automatically clears the cache for security reasons, so I believe that is why it happens for you since it is based on Mozilla 1.4, which is what Firebird is based on even thought it has the 1.5b in the string.
Personaly I am more partial to the stand alone browser called Mozilla Firebird. I have tested almost all of the Firebird 0.6.0 and 0.6.1+ versions now as I am a bit of a nightly build junkie heh. The last few official nightly builds are a bit borked though, and I have been sticking with Aug.10 for moment.
I can't wait to see Mozilla (suite) 1.5 be final so FB 0.7 will be out, which may happen by end of month if a list of some 10 or so bugs get fixed without making new bugs in process.
Opera is a good browser but I really don't like the banner box (Opera throbber joke) and it crashes on me 10x more often the Firebird, among other things. I don't even use IE anymore at all, as I use Filezilla ftp to upload stuff to my webspace to host pics now for an example.
I have to say I don't like Netscape 7.10 much either (mostly because of looks), but it still is way better then say IE in compairson.

Thanks Seven7. That really cleared up the confusion of why everything has to reload when I have to force close NS at my grandma's house once in awhile (she's on XP, im on 98) or at mine. +rep
