Ok...

Anti-videogame bodies in the US have new reason to work themselves up into a state of hysteria. A small team by the name of Kinematic is currently working on an Unreal Mod based on the events of September 11th.

Set during the events immediately following the planes' attacks, the game casts players as businesspeople, fire fighters or police, as they navigate their way through the doomed buildings.

Kinematic's site mentions such events as using mobile phones as sources of light, water bottles to restore health and handkerchiefs to avoid breathing in smoke. They also mention such set pieces as collapsing ceilings, flame-engulfed levels and having to make the critical decision whether or not to jump from a window.

With such a sensitive subject matter, the mod is inevitably going to come under extremely close scrutiny and, regardless of how sensitively Kinematic handle things, there's going to be a great many people against the idea. Thankfully, as yet there's no mention of fragging of any description.

We'll endeavour to bring you more on this controversial title as further details emerge. Until then, you can visit the homepage at www.kinematic.org/911.html

Your thoughts? I think the game looks... dull.

Is there a "dark side" option where you get to play as the hijackers?

That would be pushing it too far.

We have to wait 22 years before we're allowed to joke about this event or make light of it. That's the rule.

We can joke about Hitler but not about 9/11.

Stop me if you've heard this one.

So Hitler walks into the World Trade Center...

At least the company is going to get its name on the map very quickly, once news organizations pick up on what this game is. It looks like something I would play.

Oh well it was only a matter of time till a game was made about 9/11 and expect the film to come around in the next few years as well!

What's wrong with a game based on it? A whole bunch of good games are based on past events... Medal of Honor anyone? Sure, that's war and 9/11 is different, but it is based on a real event of high emotions.

What would our nation be like if not for all the movies, games, and stories about Vietnam, the Pearl Harbor bombings, or the Holocaust?

It's not only inevitable that 9/11 would have movies and games based on it... but it could be good.

The game would be worth a rent (not much more though).

:hmm: what exactly is this rule ?

Generally the rule is

Tragedy + Time = Humor

I believe the 22 years thing comes from an episode of south park.

Correct.

I abide by this rule. There's nothing wrong with a 9/11 game. It's just that we can make light of it by being terrorists.

Even though World War 2 was a long time ago; in war game you seldom play as the nazis.

Well, I hope it just doesn't turn into something as shallow and one-sided as Medal of Honour's 'warnography'.

Holy shyte... That would be a SWEET option.

And I'll give this game a rent! Looks fun.

I would maybe play it out of morbid curiosity but I wouldn't spend any money on it.

I find this to be very sick. Well, yes, it is inevitable that movies and maybe games would based off this event, it shouldn't be this soon. Its only been a year and a half since 9/11. Its still far too close to have a game based off it.

I can't believe how unsensitive these developers are.

"Oh god, another terrible incident in America, lets try to make money off of this!"

Stonecutter's post count is 911. Hmm...

This would make a better halflife mod than an Unreal one...meh.

I know it will. I'm just saying that if there would be any money involved, I wouldn't pay.

I dunno if I would play it as it took me a while to get over this event and it hit home closer to me as my sister used to work in a building that was just across the street. luckly she moved some months to Arizona before 9/11 happened but still...

I think I'll pass this one for a while.

So do you hate the people who made the over-abundance of flags after 9/11? They were making money of it!

I can't speak for anyone else, but yeah, that was pretty annoying to me...Unless these people were selling flags and getting money to benefit the families, then that's fine with me. I felt that all that patriotism after 9/11 was a bit ridiculous. I mean, if you were that fond of America and had that many flags waving before, then so be it, but if it takes a tragedy to make you proud of your country, that's a problem.

Lol, I felt the same way. I live in a small rural town in Kentucky. Ya know where'n everybody roun' hare talks like tdhiss sorta? Anyway, I don't. Thank god I escaped the accent and slurring of speech somehow. Anyway, like 1 day after 9/11 everyone in the freaking county had flags all over there houses and cars. And I was all like, hmm... Even like the grocery bags at store began to have pictures of flags on them...! But it wasn't like I could voice my opinions here. It's rural Kentucky, here you have to hate homosexuals, other races, and say by god a lot, or you get beat up. Yeah so don't come to Rural Kentucky and talk about how you think all the patriotism is fake. It's like faux patriotism man!
