look at the latest news about IGN:
IGN just held their Q4 conference call at 4:30 pm EST and I jotted down some important news that will affect each and every one of IGN's board users, so please take just a few minutes to read this carefully:
-Snowball.com is diverting ALL of their resources strictly to IGN.com and it's branches
-IGN'S MAIN MISSION for fiscal 2002: Convert all IGN users to Insider
-IGN Insider will be massively expanded in the near future
-IGN is extremely dependant on advertisement reveune and more countdown calenders (such as for Lord of the Rings) and pop-ups will be slowly brought into IGN, *Espically* it's message board section
-**Snowball is planning to increase IGN Insider prices roughly 2 times through fiscal 2002**
-ALL IGN content will eventually be transferred to IGN Insider
-**Putting IGN Boards under Insider-only program is being greatly considered at this point**
-Insider Subscriptions and ads are the two main sources of income for IGN, accounting for roughly 85% of Snowball.com's total income
In conclusion, you are going to be seeing *A TON* of new changes coming to IGN and it's Insider program. Just thought I'd let you all know
Extra:
-IGN magazine sold roughly 30,000 copies, although it wasn't a profitable venture overall (break-even situation)
-All other Snowball.com assets will either be shut down indefinitely or sold off
-There are roughly 550,000 unique board members (according to their calculations), where roughly 20,000 are Insiders

i can't believe everything is going to insider. the guides have gone, screens of games that are old have gone leaving like just the most recent(ex. ED). reviews are insider. i might end up actually paying for it, dang it!

I hope IGN dies... ;)
I can get guides from gamefaqs...
news from videogames.com and a lot of other sites...
Reviews don't really matter, and there are a ton of other review places...
Blah blah blah...
jigga what jigga who...

Yes, I pity IGN. Paying a bundle just to communicate with a vast community, server for downloading movies, receiving up-to-date information concerning the gaming cosmos - all of which you have access to on a handful of other gaming related websites. I'm afraid IGN has just collided with the iceberg and is gradually beginning to sink.
Anyone smell a bit of Daily Radar? The only exception is that Daily Radar never evoked an "insider" program in which you had to give up some dough just to be "in". The only thing prolonging IGN's life-span in comparison to Daily Radar's is the fact that they are making moms and dads nationwide pull out their wallets.

There’s no way I would pay for IGN as it is especially when you can get more up to date screens and reviews on Gamespot and other free online sites. They would really have to do better to get my cash they would have to at lest come up to the professional level of most good magazine (Like the Edge magazine the only mag I buy). I know they need the cash to keep going but this is not the way to do it and I think they are going to find this out the hard way. Almost every thing that is on the Insider part of IGN can be found on other sites.

I hate that, I always sign up for Insider but it never works :(

Are you talking about the "free" IGN Insider? Well, it doesn't work with me either. I wonder if they made it impossible to work if you don't pay. If anyone here likes IGN a lot, I'd suggest getting the 3 year deal before the price doubles.

Meh. I don't really care too much about IGN. There are a ton of other sites that have equal amounts of news and stuff. And I do not like how IGN only updates at night. That is crap I tell you, crap!

I will say that if you do have insider, you have access to the best Videogame site ever. Period. nothing else comes close.
but I dont have Insider:(

I'm skeptical, is IGN insider all its really cracked up to be?
If this goes down, will they continue to have ads? Cause it'd be real gay to have to pay to get to see the info and then have to screw around with ads too.

With the way things are flowing, don't be surprised if IGN folds within a year. The money you would have paid for a 3 year contract for IGNINsider would be dead cash.

It's weird how some of the most inncent names can wreak so much havok on us gamers just desiring to get the info we seek. Bah, down with Snowball! Down with IGN!
