Wow!

This looks awesome... And my favorite thing about this one is that for the first time, the series is going 3D. This is the style I like my games to be. This is awesome, take a good look at it.

World Map...?

This kind of reminds me of Ocarina of Time's world map... You know, where you enter Hyrule Castle.

Now we're talking! Full 3D battles rather than a dull text based battle. Text based was good for its time (Earthbound), but now this is what we would rather see.

Open the closet...

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2003/news/07/17/dw8_screen015.jpg
and then steal.

Traverse Town in Kingdom Hearts?

What a view...

And that's it for now...

And here's the short preview from Gamespot.

Some details on Square Enix's Dragon Quest VIII were revealed in the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine. Dragon Quest VIII will be animated in full 3D for the first time in its series. Series illustrator Akira Toriyama, who is also known for his popular Dragon Ball manga series, will be responsible for the character designs. An illustration of the main character has been released, but neither his name nor any other details have been revealed as of yet. The ability to carry objects around the field and the progression of time will be present in the game. In Dragon Quest VIII, things like scavenging through closets, which is one of the staples of the series, will be shown using animation rather than described using simple text. The monsters that the series is known for, such as the slime, the dracky, and the berserker, are also confirmed to be in the game.

Square Enix has not announced a release date for Dragon Quest VIII.

Character art looks like DBZ art. It's from the same artist right? Yuck.

Other than that it looks cool

My dad not only likes DW games, he owns them. I remember back in the day we (well, my dad would play and me and my bro would watch) would play for hours and hours... Good memories!

I remember the same exact thing except the game my dad was playing wasn't DW, it was Zelda 2. It kept going and going.... Heh.

And I just hope this game is a huge improvement over DWVII. I hope Level 5 works on the story a bit more.

Hah, from that first screen, I could tell it was the art of none other than Akira Toriyama. His style is truly unrivalled.

...

You have nothing to base your hatred on. Go back to your room.

One last thing:

*shudders* It's just the end of the traditional RPGs, and I think it's not much a good thing..

Total and absolute sweetness. I've been waiting for news on DQVIII. It's going to be hella weird to play that game in 3D.

Like I've probably told you, it's a matter of taste. I don't like DBZ art. You don't have to get defensive over it..

I find the graphics rather irritating myself.

I don't mind the fact that you don't like the art, but rather... I believe you're driven by that awkward angsty anti-DBZ, quite similar to many bias against AOL, MSN, Bonzi Buddy, Martha Stewart, Oprah, Microsoft, Macintosh, and my personal favorite evil... Disney. In other words, I feel your quick reply of bashing about the art was simply inspired by a bias based on the series itself.

Either way, it's your opinion... and whether bias or not, I suppose I'll have to respect it.

*shakes a fist at Disney*

P.S. The graphics in the game also disturb me. I dislike cel-shading, and that version of cel-shading seems to be particularly awkward. But, like from Crono Trigger, I'm drawn to Akira Toriyama's art.

Sweet. Looks good. In some ways I thought the battle screen from the older DW's was kind of annoying, but I think I'll miss it...

I remember DW3 on GBC... that game was so awesome, easily the best handheld RPG ever IMO. DW7 was a let down... I got it when I first got my PS2 and I didn't think it was that great. So like CL said, hopefully this one is better.

If you don't like Akira Toriyama, you don't like Chrono Trigger! He did the art and story for that!

Die =o

just because i don't like the art makes me hate the game?

Toriyama's art of Lucca made her look like a man. :D

*shudders* It's just the end of the traditional RPGs, and I think it's not much a good thing..

I knew someone was going to say that... As much as I love traditional RPG's, we are at the new verge of gaming. It's time to change in my opinion. For those who want the old traditional set up back, well, I don't really blame you, but we are now in the new genration of gaming, and I don't know about you guys, but I would love to see my favorite oldschool games look new and awesome. Many games that were once in 2D or traditional and have gone 3D and sucked, but most of the games that have gone through that whole process have kicked serious ass.

We're talking about Zelda 64, Mario 64, Suikoden III (I liked it a lot, gets ready for major opinionated flamage), the Final Fantasy series, Metroid, and much more. The whole point I am trying to explain here is that even the games that you would prefer to stay oldschool, they can be much better if they evolve to 3D.... It just depends on how and who develops it. Give it a chance, besides, it looks very sexy. :)

As long as the Portable Playstation thing gets new traditional RPGs, I'll be satisfied. I just wasn't prepared for such an abrupt end to beautiful 2D. It's like the leap toward 3D was made before it looked remotely good *shields eyes from FFVII's in-game*.
