Colorado recently picked up Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne. It's nice to see them finally playing together again. But with the addition of these two players to an already too powerful team, chances of anyone snatching the cup from them this upcoming season grows slimmer. Do you think anyone else stands a chance?
thier offence grows stronger, but thier defence gets weaker. and big time weaker with the loss of Roy.
there might be a couple teams with jusssst slight chances. :p ;)

I thought we already had a thread like this, must have been in the user group...
And Colorado has a damn great first two lines of offense now, but they don't really have depth after that, and their defense doesn't even compare to New Jersey, Detroit, etc. And nowadays in NHL, defense seems to matter a whole lot more than offense.

Anaheim replaces Oates and Kariya with Federov and Prospal.
IMO, this is a much better situation for Anaheim. They get younger, cheaper and better defensively. This is key in the West.
Feds just signed a 5 year deal worth $40mil with Anaheim. Murray's slap in the face to Kariya.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
we finally got rid of him!!! Ohhhhh the hocky gods are smiling now! *does a little jig*
now hopfully we can replace him with someone much much better. and save a **** load too.
woot!

How into hockey are you? You don't get "rid" of players like Federov. You lose them. Disregarding your bitterness, anger or resentment of this signing, Federov is a premier player in the league. He's arguably the most balanced two way guy playing. The only guy I could say is better is Forsberg and possibly Modano.
Few players in the league have packages of offensive and defensive skills like Forsberg, Modano and Federov do.
Also, you cannot replace guys like Federov. You can attempt to fill a hole but that hole will always be there.
Who is on the market that could possibly fill Detroit's #1 center hole? There has been talk of a Joseph for Lindros trade but Lindros has been a wasteland the last two years and what will Kenny Holland say? "What have you done for me lately?"
None of this Colorado stuff either. I frequent some nice hockey boards and there have been a lot of newbies that say Joseph's going to Colorado. Not even in a three way...lol! I'm sure Holland would love to deal a #1 (even as bad as Joseph) to the team that has only one hold to fill. :)
Anyway, I know you won't admit it...but losing Federov is a huge blow to any team. Especially one that's next best center is Datsyuk. Yes, Yzerman will be back but in terms of impact on the ice, Dats is the best center the Wings have.
blah blah blah.
you have no idea the history with him and us. i've been saying get rid of him for YEARS now.
i know you wont believe me no matter what i say here about why i want him gone. but i have no resentment at all or angle. i AM happy.
i am not happy about the spot being empty for the moment. thats differnt then not likeing him tho.
The guy wants money. plain and simple. he always has. he's held out on detroit in past years for more money. he whines about not getting ice time. but he doesnt show for the ice time he gets. he is a very overrated player (and i did not make that up. ESPN and NHL.com have said the same, overrated)
He plays when he wants to. you know in years past when he has done so well in the playoffs. seeming like he was turning it up a bit. thats cuz he was. he was getting a bonus in money for making it so far in the playoffs. years when he doesnt get the bonus. its like he isnt there.
Money is what drives fedorov. always has.
I'm sure he will do better in anaheim tho. he will be thier main guy. all the ice time and gets the pass like every time.
I dont like the guy. never have. plane and simple. im happy i dont have to see him every game and hear him whining about more money on the news every year.
he is no where near detroits #1 player. or center for that matter.
the young players will have to step it up a bit. However Datsyuk. is a passer. as much as detroit is trying to teach him to shoot more. he's a slippery little guy who will deke and pass.
Zetterburg is the guy to really step up in feds absance. leading rookie scorer last year. on a team loaded with allstars so he doesnt get the ice time. thats saying something. Before he came to the NHL. ppl in sweeden were calling him the next Forsburg. rookie of the year in the sweedish elite league his first year. this kid has the stuff.
and with a defence as loaded as detroits will have this year. thier game style is going to be VERY differnt. fed might not of fit in as well. detroit isnt going to be a fenese team. they are going to be a defence oriented grind team. they want someone big up front now.
on paper. detroits defence might be the best ever. However we all know things that look that way on paper dont always play out. there might be many probs with that we'll have to wait and see.
As for colorado. thier goaltending ina huge hole that NO ONE can fill. they lost the best goalie in NHL History. you wont fill it period. (however i think he'll come back sometime)
And thats not the only hole Colorado needs to fill. They have defence holes and they have some depth issues now.
As for teams i feel will be better. Devils, Ottawa, detroit.
possibly Vancouver, they havnt made any huge deals. but the experience they are learning the past few years is HUGE to them.

I do know the history of Federov and Detroit. I just spent two years reading all about it as I lived in Saginaw. Anyway, I understand your points but there was no doubt that he was Detroit's #1 center. It really isn't a matter of opinion either. The fact that he has been getting #1 center time over the last few years says that.
I do believe Yzerman is more important to the team though.
The Sens, Devils and Red Wings are the most balanced teams in the league. I do agree with your statements on the Nucks too. While they really haven't added or subtracted much, they're a dominant force on the ice.
actually. fedorov usually played left wing. he usually had someone else center him. but eh. whatever. IMO, you find someone who has a love for the game with a better work ethic for that spot. and i feel it will be better for detroit and the fans.
after years of watching fed in detroit, you get to know him much of the time as just being there. doing average. (average for him. good for average players) he doesnt look like he puts the effort he should or could much of the time. which is why as i said anaheim will prolly be good for him. he'll get the spotlight that he wants there.
as for detroit fans. not many i've talked to are sad to see him tho. Most are more excited about who we 'could' get instead.

True, true. It's being reported that Yzerman's back for $6mil. That's a great thing.
I've been hearing Cujo for Peca rumors for a week now. Even though Larry Brooks is the source, I think it would fit into the plans of both teams. It works salary wise and the value is there.
IMO, Peca is a guy that could turn Detroit's style around. Colorado is going for a high octane offense. Explosive powerplays and great cycling will be keys to that Avalanche team. However, defense wins games and Detroit's got a ton of it on the blueline.
Imagine if they add a checking center like Peca. Sure he gets caught off play sometimes and tries to make useless hits but he's another great leader, a faceoff guy, a gritty corner worker and an amazing checker. He's a top 3 defensive forward in the league. Right up there with Lehtinen and Madden.
Peca >> Lindros (in terms of Detroit's needs)
yea. the main rumors i been hearing lately taht keep going around are....
Cujo to...
Rangers for Lindros
Blues for Demetra
forget which team for Doug Weight
hadnt heard the peca one

That asshole's in St. Louis. :)
And Peca would be perfect for Detroit. And Peca>>>>Lindros on any team, not just for what Detroit needs. Lindros used to be a big star, now he's not half of what he used to be.
Peca should still be in Vancouver.
damnit.
