I'm sure very few of you remember my fanfic which was posted during the spring of last year. Ok, to cut an extremely long story short, and the fact that I no longer care to type it. I ended up rewriting the fanfic so here is the Prologue. To show a comparison of the type of changes and effort that went into it now, compare the Prologue to the Original to the ne updated one.
If you listen closely, you can hear the story whispered in the stars. The story of two brave souls, who were born to protect the Mushroom World from grieve evil. This is the story of the Mario Brothers.
There have been different versions of the story passed around from town to town, but no one knows for sure, but the origin of the Mario Brothers is a unique one. These strange beings arrival into the Mushroom World couldn't have come at a better time. The vile, evil and cunning King Bowser Koopa was ready to abduct the sweet, innocent Princess Peach Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom. As if the Stars were looking out for her, the instant Bowser went to grab Peach, two figures came rolling through a nearby pipe, knocking down the vile King like a bowling pin.
The reptilian king was stunned, but not defeated. He sent his henchmen after these two figures. The sheer force and quantity of Bowser's Koopa Troopas was far too great for the brothers to overcome. As luck would have it, the Koopa Troopas knocked these two meddling foes into a nearby brick. Instead of injuring the brothers, the brick broke and out came two mushrooms. The mushrooms seemed to have an attraction to the brothers as it glided past the Koopa Troopa, and into their hands. The brothers looked at the mushrooms with curiosity.
They heard a voice, they couldn't really make out what it said, but the voice told them to take a piece of the mushroom. At this point, the Mario Brothers figured they were just in a bad dream, they thought could there really be walking and talking reptiles? They figured they had nothing to lose by eating a mushroom.
The Brothers took a bite of the mushroom. They began to feel a change in their body. They grew to at a freakishly scary rate, almost triple their size in mere seconds. They could feel their strength increase, and the muscles in their legs.
No one could quite make out what was going on, but due to their increase, the Brothers now stood a chance against the Koopa Troopa legion. Mario took a nearby Koopa and ripped his shell off, he then set up a shot with the remaining Koopas and King Koopa. He tossed the shell along the floor like a bowling ball, knocking down everyone in it's path.
King Bowser Koopa for a huge creature was the first to his feet. He shouted to his minions to retreat. As he ran off, he turned to these mysterious people who had defeated him, and said, "This isn't the last you will see of me! King Bowser Koopa will rule the Mushroom World soon enough!" Those words would remain echoed in the Mario Brother's head for years to come.
The Brothers then felt a tap on their shoulder. They turned around in the offensive when they realized there stood a lovely lady dressed in a long pink dress with white gloves.
She looked at the strangers for several minutes with intrigue and curiosity. "I know it's not polite to stare. It just that since I've been here, I have seen very few who look like me." Pointing towards a nearby toad, she continued. "That is one of my loyal subjects. I love them all dearly, but they don't look like me. You, well, you two on the other hand. Are very similar to me. Where do you come from, if you don't mind me asking."
"We are-a from Brooklynn. Where exactly isa this place?" Mario said.
"As King Koopa shouted, you are in the Mushroom World. There are 8 kingdoms here. I am the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom."
"You are.. you are a princess?" Luigi questioned humbled to be in the presence of royalty.
"Yes, I am. Sorry for not introducing myself. I don't seem to have the best manners today. My name is Princess Peach Toadstool. This is my loyal associate Toadsworth and one of my oldest friends, Toad." Peach said as she pointed towards the two short men with mushroom hats.
"Itsa nice to meet you, Princess." Mario said as he bowed.
"You don't have to bow before me. If anything I should be bowing before you, I owe you a debt of gratitude for saving me. Before I ask this, you have yet to introduce yourselves."
"It’sa me, Mario, Mario Mario and this isa my brother, Luigi Mario." Mario said grabbing his brother who was still a little shaken from being in the presence of royalty.
"Peculiar names, but still names nonetheless. It's nice to meet you, Mario and Luigi." The Princess extended her arms to shake theirs.
"I don't know... if we.." Luigi was a little stunned by the actions of the princess. She was acting like a normal person.
"You seem a little shocked at my behavior. Like I mentioned before, you are one of the few people who appearance is close to that of my own, and you also seem to be around my age. Most importantly, you saved my life. I do owe you. Which reminds me, is there anything I could do for you?"
"I'm still not quite sure if this isa a dream or not, but isa there anyway you can get us back to Brooklyn?"
"I will try everything in my power to help you with that, but for the time being, I will set up a place for you to stay and give you some food."
"Thank you." Mario said.
"Now follow me."
Mario and Luigi followed the princess and her two associates.
That was many moons ago, and several dozen shooting stars. Since that time, the Mario Brothers (what they have become known as) have become renewed heroes in the Mushroom World. They have saved Princess Peach from numerous threats from Bowser, his Kooplings and even Smithy, an evil sword. The Brothers have batted heads with Bowser over the power of the Star Spirits as well as a enchanted castle.
The Mushroom World has been at peace for some time now. Since Mario last thwarted Bowser's plan to take over the world. Luigi has had an adventure in a haunted mansion, he now inherits, but the adventures have been pretty tame. Let there seems to be a hint of evil in the wind. No one is able to detect it yet. What is this threat? Has the evil King Koopa returned to take over the world once again? Has Smity risen from the ashes? Has Mario's dream foe, Wart some how come to life? No one knows for sure, but the evil is lurking in the light. Will it be able to cast the World into darkness.
Star Road overlooks the MushRoom Kingdom and is home to the 7 Star Spirits. They have protected the MushRoom Kingdom for generations and had their powers taken from them by the evil King Bowser Koopa.
Mario, the hero of the MushRoom Kingdom, thwarted Bowser's plan by venturing through the 7 realsm of the MushRoom Kingdom to retrieve the 7 Star Spirits from the henchmen of Bowser. After getting the 7 Star Spirits, Mario was given the powers to defeat Bowser in Peach's Castle and restore the Kingdom.
The MushRoom KingDom has been at peace since that incident until an event starts to shake the foundation of the KingDom. The kingdom is on the verge of a Civil War that may be to powerful for even Mario to stop. But is it all that meets the eye. Are the Kings and Queens really preparing for war. And what of Mario's old archnemesis Bowser he has not been seen since Mario defeated him.
