Sega's AM2 division, headed by the legendary Yu Suzuki, has finally unveiled the massively anticipated true sequel to the coin-op classic, Outrun. one fact that is resoundingly clear is that, crucially, the game will boast an official licence from Ferrari itself, meaning some of the world's finest sports car will be present for your racing enjoyment. Suzuki-san is a well-known fan and owner of the manufacturer's vehicles, his Ferrari F355 title testament to this passion.

Other facts we know: you'll be able to select a special 'drifting' option which will affect the handling in some way; the fit bird in the passenger seat (a staple from the original) will have a more involved role this time, and the Chihiro-based coin-op will release sometime in Winter 2003.

Is this game an XBox exclusive? Or is Sega considering releasing it for other consoles? Since it's coming from Sega, and it looks like a good racing game, it would be something I would buy.

You could just buy an Xbox.

It's an Xbox exclusive as of now.

And the arcade game was awesome, can't wait for this one.

Looks like a lot of fun...I faintly remember the original

I would love to see an online installment of the Daytona USA series too...

You could just buy an Xbox.

That would defeat the purpose of me only buying Nintendo products. Plus, my money doesn't need to go to MS. If I ever did get one, it would be pre-owned.

Outrun was an old arcade game by Sega (more specifically, AM2 which of course means Yu Suzuki creator of Virtua Fighter along with a lot of Sega's old arcade greats). It was a game where you would drive on a road in a sports car and get to these checkpoints before the time limit. You would have to dodge cars and time turns right so you didn't slam into signs and stuff.

Jonbo, you are such a loser.

It sounded like you were being sarcastic, but if you weren't, I just lost all remaining respect that I had for you.

not sure if i'd call it a racing game.

i dont believe from what i remember. that there are any cars your racing against. its more like a time trial with traffic.

maybe i remember wrong tho... IMO its more suited for an arcade game. but hey. it was fun.

No, that would be Burnout, which sucked.

Can't speak for Burnout 2 but the origional was god awful.

I remember playing Outrun on the Genesis. Great game. It's the racing game with no laps. Hmm, the undersea tunnel was cool for its time.

EDIT: I loved how the game had "multiple routes" as seen by the triangle in the top right corner of each screenshot. Games with multiple routes are always fun. Take StarFox,for example.

Shenmue 3! I'm telling Yu! I'm telling Yu! :shakehead

Yeah, in Shenmue 2 they had Outrun as an arcade game.. and once you played it you could access it from the main screen, which was very convenient... and it was a lot of fun. Most of the times I'd boot up the game just for a few rounds of Outrun. It was a good game for it's time, and it fits the Xbox controller somewhat. Now they have this, I won't need to boot up Shenmue 2 anymore... I'm sold. It looks great already.
