I keep getting these in XP. I already had KaZaa pay for the program to shut it off, but I forgot to open it back up and I got one. Thank god I downloaded it from KaZaa. The amount to have the program to stop the messages was too much for me. But if anyone would like a copy, either IM me on AIM or send a PM on GT.

You don't need a program at all. You just need to uncheck some option in MSN Messanger. I think it's network sharing or something.

The only problem is, is that I'm pretty sure I uninstalled MSN Messenger a long time back.(Damn Microsoft, I don't want it) I tried searching for it on the HD and it found nothing.

turning on the firewall in XP stops them too.

I had the EXACT same problem. They popped up whenever they felt like it, wheather you were playing a game or not, right over whatever you were doing, I was playing Counter Strike one time and one popped up and crashed my computer. I found this handy site that the folks at the university of Virginia have put up, it explains the problem, and tells you exactly how to fix it.

Nononono. These are messages from the windows nerbios messenger service, and nothing to do with MSN messenger.

To diasble the messenger service:

Right click My Computer
Manage
Services and Applications
Services
Find the Messenger Services
Right click, properties
Set startup type to disabled, then stop the service.

If you find that you need the messenger service (e.g. we use it alot in our LAN's at home and at work) then the Miranda IM client has support for netbios messenger. Even so, I'd recommend you don't use crummy software filled full of spyware.

Thanks anyways sdt. I already followed the instructions from the site and its off and nothing has come up since then. Plus, my grandma's comp is not in a LAN, so she won't care.

I'm still able to play almost all the games online, because my grandma's comp just haas Nortin using the firewall. And I just tell it to let the program go online. Unless a game is picky, then I have to shut it off. But I'm on modem, so the chance of a hacker wanting in is slim to none.

incorrect.

if you have a firewall on you can play games perfectly fine online.
You cant host online games tho. However if you have a good firewall. you can find the port the game runs on and allow that port to come thro and you can host online games as well.

but a firewall wont stop you from playin online games.
