Half of you are rejoicing after reading the headline, and the other half are very confused...
For those of you out of the RPG loop, Ys is a series of action-RPGs developed by Falcom. The last installment of the series appeared on the SNES over EIGHT YEARS ago. Falcom today announced a new installment on the series, entitled Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim.
Thanks to today's modern times the environments are rendered in realtime 3D, although the main characters are still sprite-based. Falcom is remaining tight-lipped about gameplay details, including what the title's combat system will be like.
The storyline has Adol once again returning to the spotlight. On his quest to find the mysterious whirlpool of Canaan Adol finds him on an island inhabited with a people called the Leda. Several other characters besides Adol are returning including Dogi, and Terra. Not much more has been revealed at this time.
Falcom has announced some impressive incentives to convince gamers to preorder the title. The first 30,000 pre-orderers will receive a DVD that includes a live performance of the series' soundtrack, as well as background information about the series. As if that weren't enough, the first 60,000 copies of the game will come with the Ys Encyclopedia Collection, which is actually the first five games in the series, in their complete playable form, on the PC. It's too bad American gaming companies aren't this generous with their preorder campaigns.
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim is slated for a September 27th release in Japan. No American release has been announced at this time.
I'm thinking bull**** right now. but if it's true it's awesome no matter what system.
I'm guessing it's probably a ps2 game (it'd definatly not an xbox game) but it just might be for the cube. more as it developes.
