A pretty big one too... It keeps saying that the discs for the games I try to play are dirty or scratched an it can't read them. At first I thought it actually was the games (I normally buy used and I fgured I was having a string of bad luck with their quality) but it happened enough times with enough different games that I have decided that it has to be the console, not the games.

So... What should I do?

Happens to a lot of people. You could call Microsoft, see if they repair it for you, and you'll be out an Xbox for a while. You could buy a new Xbox.

I think your options are limited.

This always happens to my Madden 2003 game. I just relaod the disk and it usually works. Only happens with madden, though, so your problem is probably more serious.

Try a lens cleaner. If that doesn't work it still might be the discs.

One option you have I take ZERO responsibility if this ****s your games up is to boil the discs for 5-10 seconds.

You can find tutorials online about just how to do this and why it helps.

And option 3 is to send it back to MS. Which will wipe your hard drive at best and run you 100$ at worst (depends on your warranty status)

Or if you've got an in store warranty just say that your system is ****ed and pick up a new one for free.

Well, we called Microsoft. We explained the problem and gave them my Box's serial number.

Although it was out of warranty, they said that the model was faulty or something and that they would still do it for free. Shipping and everything. Plus, I get a 30 day warranty after that in case its still broken.

So its all good :D

Apparently putting them in the dishwasher really cleans them (honestly). But don't blame me if it stuffs up ur games.

I had the same problem, the lens got weak real quick and games stopped reading, then I had a hdd problem (sent it back to MS).

So send it back to MS if under warranty. They send you this neat little parcel to put it in.

Microsoft admitting something is faulty. *gasp* Anywho. At least yours is getting fixed for free. Good Luck!:p

I have never had any problems with my Xbox... Even though I'm still within the first 6 months of owning it :p

no, it usually means your poor dvd drive is toast, microsoft only warrenties their consoles for 90 days, so they probably wont help you... if you end up getting a new xbox, i'll buy your broken one from ya, I need the parts.

if you wanna replace the drive yourself, you have to have an xbox specific one, there are 3 types, a thompson, a phillips and er... i forgot the other one, NO you cannot just use a computer dvd rom drive, it doesn't read xbox disks!
