Which RPG do you feel is the greatest of all time?

Not for it's influence on the RPG world either... which one do you feel just has the best raw story, charicter development, gameplay, and even attacks/visuals?

I enjoyed the stories of the Suikoden and Phantasy Star series. Phantasy Star III was just plain ugly, so it doesn't count... and Phantasy Star II was too early to have perfected the gaming.

Suikoden II is my favorite RPG of all time.

Honorable Mentions:
Phantasy Star IV
Albert Odyssey: The Legend of Eldean (or whatever it was called)
Valkyrie Profile
Final Fantasy VIII

Also, I bet Xenogears, Xenosaga, and the Lunar games would also be high ranking.

Tough call. Hard to choose really. The one that really stood out though is Chrono Cross, so I'll say that. but coming in very close are:
Chrono Trigger
Breath Of Fire III
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VI
Suikoden I (just recently beat it, and I bet Suikoden II will be on this list once I beat it)

Other honourable mentions, however, are:
Suikoden III
Secret Of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3
Dragon Warrior 3
...and others. I also still have to play through games like Xenogears, the Lunars, etc, which I'm sure will be quite good.

Yay! FF3/6! All the way! and others:
FFIV
FFVII
FFVIII
(pift, hated 9...)
FFX
Super Mario RPG (the SNES 1, not paper mario...)
And maybe - The 7th Saga. (I love my old, beat-up SNES)

i didn't like Chrono Trigger that much and Morrowind just didn't make the cut. FF games are the best :D

Whoa, I am a member now, so I have to post...

[b]Final Fantasy VII[b/] is the best RPG or even game of all time in my honest opinion.

My favorite RPG of all time would probably have to be FF6. I'm in love with that game. If it was a real female, I would marry it. lol

Anyway.

I love that game for so many things. Let's start with the story. It's perhaps one of the best FF stories. Girl who doesn't remember who she is goes on a quest that ends up leading her down the path to stop an evil evil evil man, Kefka! Did I mention he was evil? It gets points for being the only FF game to have a main boss that I really hated. I can't even believe all the junk he did! Oh man and then it gets points for being like the first FF whose main character was a female. FF X followed but that game let me down, and Yuna's main characterness was shared with Tidus who, might I add, is the most retarded main character ever! Anyway. The magic system is great, you learn spells from espers. I learnt all the spells with every character, because I'm in love with that game. Man and then the characters were really cool. I loved Celes. Edgar always the ladies man, :o , Sabin, even Gau. Also my favorite character, Mog! Dance my moogle friend, dance! Oh man and it's just great to be able to use all your characters in parts of the game.

So anyway, by far my favorite game of all time is probably FF 6. Followed ever so closely by FF Tactics. FF 7 was great and all, but it just didn't do it for me like 6 and Tactics did.

Heh... you mean you'd marry something that only satisfies you for 20-or-so hours (not sure of the true game time), and then becomes repeats?

Actually, my first time playing the game took me a whopping 60 hours. Besides just beating the game, there are extra characters you can get and extra dungeons. But FF6 was awesome, but I think FF7 had the greatest characters along with their great personalities and each character has its own back-story.. or whatever you want to call it.

Final Fantasy Tactics is also an awesome game, I loved it. For those who haven't played FFT, play it now!

Yeah it took me about 60 hours to beat it the first time too. And yeah, why not? 60 hours of satisfaction that repeats frequently. mmm.

Hm. Sorry to revive a 5 month old thread, but for some reason I just noticed it. :wtf:

I dont know where you're from, but 20-or-so hours of pleasure is a hella lot. :D

And if what the other guys say is true, 60 hours of pleasure.....Uh yeah, I would marry that.

But anyway...My favorite RPG ever is Final Fantasy Tactics. Brilliant story. Brilliant gameplay. Brilliant everything.

What I meant so long ago is that... after the 60 or so hours of pleasure, everything else is old. Sure, you'll have two days of exciting fun, but after that... is it really worth all the troubles of divorce?

I know none of you can stay with one RPG your whole life. Therefor, marrying one without cheating on it would be very difficult.

The first time I beat it was on PC. I saved up money for weeks to buy it for PC because I didn't have a Playstation at the time. I still have it for PC somewhere. It doesn't work too well on XP though. Maybe I need a patch. I have it on playstation and PC. Whoa. I wish that they would hurry up with the greatest hits release of Anthology. FF6 for Playstation, yeah I'm all about that.
