with your opinion. facts don't play a role in preference.

I disagree with a lot of the list, but meh. They should have the 100 greatest songs from the past 50 years :D

I was just talking about this list with Stonecutter last night.

I think it's awful, but it is hard to make these all-in-one lists I suppose.

I just have two words... BON JOVI??????

Every time another list comes out I have to make another decision on who the worst listmakers are.

Is it VH1

Or TV guide

both are awful

but the list does have one redeeming quality.

You sure this list doesn't have to do anything with popularity, and not a panel of people picking the songs?

Hmm... They left out a lot of jazz tunes... Wait a minute, there aren't any Jazz songs on that! That is horrible. And they left out a lot of classical music as well... Those bastards.

Lose Yourself is an awesome song you know. Eminem even mentioned that the song is a sort of charm for the rap genre....

But where is Pink Floyd in that list? The guy deserves to be in there...

They should have used Sing for the Moment.

And i still can't believe no pumpkin song is up there.

OMG... You should shoot yourself in the foot if you think Pink Floyd is a guy.. OMG>. that is funny.

Another Brick on the Wall is a good song... Not their best, but I guess it was the only CD of theirs that fit into the 25 year thing.

Just because it's someone else's doesn't make it bad. I still like it.

But since we're talking about originals how about Way I Am.

Final Cut and Division Bell were both released after The Wall. Nobody really knows any songs from those albums though so......

"Nope" infers that I was wrong. If that's what you meant then your understanding of an important yet simple meaning/concept is cloudy (if not nonexistent)

Sultans of Swing should be number one, no questions asked.

DJ Mike Hunt
06-14-2003, 11:49 AM
About five of these songs are only a few months old. And only about ten are actually any good. They left out -

Sonic Youth
The Replacements
Elvis Costello and the Attractions
The White Stripes
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Linda Ronstadt (Her "Blue Bayou" was so pretty)
And lots of other people

Since they did seem to remember Blondie and the Talking Heads, the entire list should have just been Blondie and the Talking Heads.

Oh, that boy of mine
By my side
The silver moon and the evening tide
Oh, some sweet day
Going to take away
This hurting inside
Well, I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou.

GC!

One of 3 good Dire Straits songs (the other two being Walk of Life and Money for Nothing.)

You get a shiver in the dark
It's raining in the park but meantime
South of the river you stop and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie double four time
You feel alright when you hear that music ring

You step inside but you don't see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down
Too much competition too many other places
But not too many horns can make that sound
Way on downsouth way on downsouth London town

You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords
Mind he's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing
And an old guitar is all he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing

And Harry doesn't mind if he doesn't make the scene
He's got a daytime job he's doing alright
He can play honky tonk just like anything
Saving it up for Friday night
With the Sultans with the Sultans of Swing

And a crowd of young boys they're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles
The don't give a damn about any trumpet playing band
It ain't what they call rock and roll
And the Sultans played Creole

And then the man he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last just as the time bell rings
'Thank you goodnight now it's time to go home'
and he makes it fast whith one more thing
'We are the Sultans of Swing

I was in the shower, of all places, when THE MOST glaring omission from the top 100 of the past 25 hit me.

THE RISING!

WTF?

I know it's only a year old, but come on, that song was pretty much the anthem of 9/11 and I don't think we need to make any statements on the impact of 9/11 on.....everything. How The Rising isn't in the top TEN is beyond me.

M&M in the top 10
The Rising not on the list.

HUH?
