I'm $20 away from a PS2. With my report card money I'm going to get in a couple weeks, I'll have enough for a PS2 and a game. Ok, the main point is that I'm going to have PS2 again. But to turn this into a worthy topic, what's the most definitive PS2 experience there is? I'm looking for replay value here.
Oh, and if you wondered why I'm only getting one game, it's because my friends talk my ear off about PS2 and have a lot of good titles. I've borrowed a PS2 from one guy on three different ocassions for weeks at a time, so I think it's about time I picked one up for myself now that I can afford it again.

This is kind of hard, there are a lot of good games out there. What kind are you looking for? RPG or whatever?

SOCOM: US Navy SEALS
Anything.. I got through FFX in about half a week and was definitely not looking forward to playing it again unless to beat it. Just, in your opinion, the one that you play the most.
EDIT: Ok, thanks Joeiss, I'll put that down. :)

If you like Beat em ups... I'd pick up DW4 for PS2. It's pretty addicting... and the character voicing makes u laugh.
I'd choose Kingdom Hearts as my first choice. The gameplay is amazing and I've played through it twice already. The Disney Characters are fruity but don't let that get in the way.
... I liked FFX :(

You say you're currently playing Suikoden. If you like it, at least give Suikoden III a rent.
As for a buyable game... *thinks* I really need to go to the video store more often. Hmm, maybe Dynasty Warriors 4.

You're entering a little late, wait for PS3.
as far as REPLAY value goes.
nothing beats an online game for replay value.
single player, id have to say Vice City... IMO, i mean even after beating it. its fun to just go play around in.
Dynasty Warriors 4... heard a lot of good stuff about that game. Think I'll look into it. :)
Kingdom Hearts... wanted to get a PS2 for the longest time just for this game. Although it's got mixed reactions I'm going to put it down because I love Disney.
FFX- I love it too, I just don't think I'll have time.. there's so much to do, I'd rather check out other games. :p
Suikoden 3- My friend owns this, I'm sure he'll lend it to me.
Wait for PS3-
Vice City- Yeah, that's the game I've played the most when I borrow it. I'm thinking about it, but then, my friend owns it, and he never plays it. I've lent him a bunch of GCN games for months now. He better repay the favour.
Thanks for your help, guys. :)

Well, if this were bizarro world and I were buying a ps2 (actually when and if that new R-type game comes out I might just have to buy a ps2) my first two games would be GT3 and Ace Combat 4. You can never go wrong with gran turismo. Even I'm not a big enough xbox fanboy to say that we have a racer that comes close in terms of depth to GT. And Ace Combat 2 was one of my all time favorite psx games.

Madden... jk ;)
Er um, get some greatist hits... like MGS2, GT3, and GTA3... 3 games with good replay value for the price of 1 (ok, an extra $10, but eh).

depends on what kind of genres you like.
RPG - Kingdom Hearts
Stealth - MGS2
Action - Devil May Cry (not DMC2)
Adventure - Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City
Platformer - Ratchet and Clank
Racer - Gran Turismo 3 (although I'd wait for GT4)
Arcade Racer - Midnight Club II
Music - Amplitude
It's too bad you're emphasising replay value...ICO is probably my favourite game this generation. It only takes about 7 hours to beat, but I beat it 3 times because I loved it so much. Look into that, it'll be cheap to buy.

RPG - FFX
Stealth - MGS2
Action -
Adventure - Kingdom Hearts
Platformer - Ape Escape OR Sly Racoon
Racer - Gran Turismo 3
Fighting - CVS2/VF4/T4/KOF (whicheva is out)
Survival/Horror - SH2
I would classify KH more of an adventure than RPG (even though it might be classified RPG).
But basically Squaresoft owns :D

You're buying a second PS2? No wonder they sold that many systems :D

Well, congrats Dyne. And I have to disagree with GM. It is not "too late". It's never too late. Besides, he alreayd said he's been borrowing it for months now. What's the difference?
There's so many games it's hard to choose from. I would recommend Suikoden III, KH, and Xenosaga for RPGs. Other good games are ICO, GT3 (well... GT4 comes out this year I think, or early 2004), MGS2 (and MGS3 when it comes out), and many more.

Since everyone is expecting me to suggest an RPG game, I'll pick something else.
Ace Combat 4.
I dont own it, but I rented it (a few times) and eventually beat it. Excellent game. Also, look into ICO, even if just for a rental.
Besides that, there's a bunch of RPGs which I'm sure you already know about and stuff...

Zone of the Enders 1+2
Silent Hill 1 (I know it's for PSX), 2, and eventually, 3 :p

I have to agree with Perfect Stu and Shadow_Link on ICO. Also, look into Rez, although the Dreamcast version is superior IMO.
