View Full Version : Underrated or overrated: Eternal Darkness

So what do you think about Eternal Darkness??
Why didn't the game sell?? It got rave reviews, yet some people think it disapointed.

I haven't played the game yet. :-o I bought it a few weeks ago when it was just $20, but I want to play TWW first. After that, I'll play Eternal Darkness... :)

So what do YOU think? Overrated or underrated???

One of the best games I have ever played. Playability does get a bit repetitive but that's 100% outweighed by the amazing way the simple, yet slightly complex plotted out story unfolds before your very eyes.

Well, if it got rave reviews, it deserved them, so it wasnt underrated in that sense. But in sales, it should have gotten more, Im sure it would have with better advertising.

I say overrated. The game was awesome in terms of graphics, atmosphere, gameplay, etc... but for some reasons that I can't quite put my finger on, I just couldn't get into the story/plot at all. I will have to give it another try tough.

Way overrated... The combat was eh and I hated the recovery time after you got hit... It was way too long... And the story was eh... Bleh... fweh...

Way underrated. I got it at Christmas but I enjoyed it very much, if not more than what else I got. I think it's one of those must-plays this generation, like Shenmue. Just, brilliant. The sanity effects were awesome.

it got good reviews, but it's underrated by gamers in general i think. i got it used, and loved it

Yesterday when I went to EB, they had a bargain "bin" of games under $20. I saw ED in their and I had to get it. So I did. I never beat the game when I rented it back when it was released, so Im getting there. And with my new AR, it makes it better for me:D

Didn't Eternal Darkness get like a 9.6-9.7 from IGN? In that case, how could it possibly be 'way underrated?' :confused:

Alot of people complained about the game and alot of reviewers liked it. Thats why to some, its underrated.

Overrated.... maybe because it was the first so called "great" GCN game. I thought it was ok, nothing special, just an average good game. But people acted like it was much better than it realy is.

Well at least underrated by the people who bought it other than reviewers, and me.

I never had to act like it was anything but what it was.

I just started playing it... Got to the Aribian girl... whose a dancer part. It sucks.. bad. I mean what the hell are those stupid consistant trap sthat have NO point to them. Story is very intresting... no doubts about it. Gameplay on the other hand... the fighting is better than Silent Hill or RE... but damn levels with traps!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!

It's turning me off dammit

There are only two levels with traps so don't worry.

And they do have a point. Its an ancient temple protecting a god. Its going to have traps. Just be careful and look at the floor. You can see the tiles that set off the traps. You can dodge most of them and the ones you can't don't set off anything difficult to avoid.

Well my character got "stuck" in one of these traps and die because she couldn't move. Also how do you save in the game!! I skimmed through the manual but can't find it.


Also ONE BIG flaw of the game is that it has the insanity bar shown to the player. It makes insanity feel like a generic nyproduct. It eleminates the feeling of surprise associated with the genre.

Still a great 20 euros buy.

You hit start to bring up the menu. You hit L or R to flip through the menu pages until you come to one that has "Save and Load" on it. You save there...


I've never gotten "stuck" in a trap...

Me either, but I've gotten stuck being hit by enemies over and over again because the hit recovery time sucks so much ass it's not even funny...
