Prologue

Abie Pallaton is the mother of 6 children, and she is currently pregnant with a 7th child. Andie and Scott are actually the biological children of her younger sister Toni, but Toni was 14 when she had them and so Abie agreed to raise them until Toni could handle the responsibility. Toni promised to do her part in the future. When Toni was 18 she married a wealthy but cruel landowner named Bedros and moved to Simsville. Despite her having a somewhat stable life now, Andie and Scott are still under the care of Abie since she is the only mother they’ve ever known. Abie lives below the poverty line and must constantly struggle to make ends meet. She had a job as a messenger page but was recently laid off. Despite promises from the government to help support her she finds herself on her own. She moves with her children to Simsville in hopes of starting a new life and renewing her relationship with Toni, whom she has not spoken with in almost 2 years. She does not have enough money to purchase even the cheapest property, so she must rent a house from Bedros who is not the most understanding businessman.

On the Pallatons’ first day in the neighborhood Mortimer Goth comes by to “welcome” them. He spends the entire time insulting Abie and the kids with his puppet. Abie eventually chases him off as she enough problems to worry about, such as how to feed the kids. She enlists in the military since it is the highest paying job available to a high school dropout such as herself. Despite the steady income she has a hard time supporting her 6 children. They only have one functioning bathtub and a couple porto-potties in the backyard. Abie spends as much as she can on the kids and promises them everything will be okay. She buys them a toy box, doll house, train set and cheap TV. Yet the kids are still always miserable due to the close quarters in which they are forced to live. They are constantly hungry, as Abie never makes enough food to keep them full. One afternoon she fixes lunch but eats two of the plates herself, leaving only 4 plates for the 6 of them. Often it is the case that she doesn’t have time to feed them at all because of her job. Bedros does not make things easier for Abie as he is constantly hounding them for their outrageous rent payments and other fees. The one bright spot in Abie’s life is neighbor by the name of Trident Royal. Trident lives by himself in an empty home where he waits by the phone for someone to call him and justify his existence. Trident is in the process of punishing himself for a hit-and-run he was involved in a few months ago. Two people were killed in the accident and Trident has been on the run ever since. Trident likes Abie a great deal, but the guilt he harbors prevents him from fully enjoying life. Plus Bedros knows that Trident is a wanted man and he uses that against him. Trident wants to help Abie out financially, but Bedros keeps him down by blackmailing him.

Andie

Andie is a very courteous and tidy little boy. He is extremely shy and does not make friends very easily. Tess is his closest friend because she has a similar personality. Andie’s strength is his ability to keep everything in perspective. He shares this strength with his brothers and sisters whenever they get depressed. His positive attitude encourages them to keep going.

Kael

Every family has a protector and Kael Pallaton fills that role neatly for his family. He is active and outgoing and is drawn to Belicia. Though he has no real friends because most kids are intimidated by him. He protects his siblings from neighborhood bullies and as a consequence his brothers and sisters look up to him. Abie calls him her “little warrior.”

Camille

Camille acts as the leader of the group. She makes sure that everyone goes to bed at the right time and that they get up for school. She’s the only one who stands up to her mother whenever she does something stupid. The time Abie ate most of their food Camille let her know how displeased they were by getting up in her face and insulting her. Camille is outgoing, active and nice.

Scott

Scott provides the much-needed comic relief for the family. He’s a scruffy redhead who resembles Conan O’Brien in some ways. Scott loves to play and joke around with his siblings. He’s always standing by to cheer up anyone who looks like they need an uplifting.

Tess

Besides being neat and nice, there’s nothing too remarkable about Tess. She’s just kinda there. She’s generally a soft-spoken youngster who never bothers anyone.

Belicia

Belicia is strong on all personality points except niceness. She is the most vocal an active of the children, and she is always the first one to know about the latest gossip. She often resorts to teasing her siblings, but they are usually okay with that behavior.

Abie

Abie is devastated to learn she cannot afford to keep all her children. Tess and Belicia will be missed, but Abie knows in her heart of hearts that she will see them again. She doesn’t know what she is going to do when her next child is born as she cannot afford to take off work to take care of him/her. She decides to plead with both Toni and Trident for help in raising her kids so that she doesn’t lose any more.

Abie tries her best to help her kids with their schoolwork, but in the end she loses everyone except Scott to military school. Devastated with her perceived failure as a mother, Abie attempts to regain some meaning in her life by marrying Trident. Trident keeps Abie’s name instead of his own in order to honor her. They resolve themselves to have a huge family and to give their children the support Abie could never give her own. Trident becomes a wedding singer to pay the bills.

Abie gives birth first to Burt, then to Pete. They’re counting on the kids to garner them a few family friends. The Goths adopt a baby named Loraine because Cassandra answered the phone and wanted a playmate. Michael Bachelor makes the scene and becomes friends with Toni. Toni is furious that her son Andie was lost by Abie to military school even though he should have been her responsibility. A bitter custody battle erupts between them for guardianship of Scott.

Scott, Burt and Pete boning up on their studies.

Trident discovers an easy way to earn a new friend, by bribing them! Trident gives 10 diamond rings to Diane Pleasant, after which she falls completely in love with him. Apparently money can buy you friends. Abie wins back Toni’s trust using the same with method. With two family friends in tow, Trident gets a promotion to high school band director and Abie becomes a flight officer. Abie is abducted by aliens after gazing at the tars, then the newest child Oscar becomes their next unwilling subject.

Bedros

Bedros is the essence of cruelty. He may have saved Toni from a life of poverty but he treats her like dirt. He wants to maintain his extravagant lifestyle but he doesn’t want to work. Every since the loss of his rental property he’s been without a steady income. As a result he forces Toni to get a job. Toni, like Abie, has no marketable skills so she enlists in the military. Bedros sits at home all day and screws around while Toni is hard at work paying the bills. What time they do spend together is fraught with marital strife and physical abuse. Bedros knows what Trident was involved in, and he has the evidence to prove it. He gets in touch with Jeff Pleasant regarding the evidence. Jeff is a lawyer and should be able to help Bedros through the legal process. However Jeff doesn’t work for free and wants something in return. When Bedros inquires as to what, Jeff replies that he must have Bedro’s first-born son. This sounds reasonable to Bedros so he makes the deal in earnest. Though Bedros soon realizes it will be difficult to convince Toni to have a child since he consistently beats and berates her. After much ass-kissing Bedros finally gets his wish in the form of a son.

The Pleasants

Before Jeff Pleasant can assist Bedros with his quest to put Trident behind bars, he must first take care of his own problems. Money is extremely tight in the Pleasant household, and it doesn’t help matters that Diane is a lazy wife. Jeff believes that that vindictive life-sucking bitch is the reason there is so much discord in the home. She’s too lazy to get a job herself, yet she constantly nags Jeff about home and money issues. She’s also an extremely poor mother. Whenever she fixes a meal she does so only for herself and no one else. As a consequence the kids often go hungry. In addition she is a cruel person and is constantly trying to scare and tease the kids. Jeff knows that if he is to make any progress in life he must drop the dead weight of Diane and find a new wife. So after another night of arguing Jeff takes off downtown to get away from it all. There he goes after the first woman he meets, Hypathia Townie. He doesn’t really know what kind of woman she is, but he figures she can’t be any worse than Diane. The last straw that convinces Jeff he’s doing the right thing is Danielle having to go to military school for her poor grades. Lack of food caused her study problems.

Toni

Toni knows she must somehow escape her abusive relationship with Bedros but she is too weak emotionally to take any action. However her new involvement in the military may give her the confidence she needs to finally go out on her own. Toni has forgiven many of Bedros’s transgressions, but getting rid of their child is an action she cannot overlook. In order to get back at Bedros for his thoughtless deed, Toni breaths wind of Bedros’s plot to Trident.

Trident

Trident knows he must act fast if he is to stop Bedros from going to the authorities. Trident also knows that Bedros is an avid TV watcher. He takes advantage of this by sabotaging Bedros’s television set. Bedros likes to do everything on his own, a fact which Trident was counting on, so Bedros attempts to fix the TV himself without a repairman. Having no mechanical experience whatsoever, Bedros succeeds only in electrocuting himself. Although Trident feels that he is safe, unbeknownst to him Bedros had already gone to the authorities with his evidence on Trident. Trident will face the next several years behind bars.

Epilogue

The loss of both Bedros and Trident causes Abie and Toni to reconcile their differences and come together as sisters. Toni moves in with Abie and they raise all the kids together. Between the two of them they are confident that they can give their children much better lives than they had for themselves.
