If anyone can remember a couple months back when it was announced that a Metroid movie was going to be announced some people were up in arms thinking that they would ruin the Metroid franchise. Details of the story have come out and this is what IGN FilmForce said the story will be about
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is set in a once peaceful galaxy, which has its prosperity shattered by a startling discovery... During a routine mapping expedition, a planetary survey crew discovers a new airborne form of life – the Metroid. The creature engulfs other living beings and feeds on their energy. It can also multiply quickly and proves a terrifying menace. The Galactic Federation calls on female bounty hunter Samus Aran to eradicate the deadly creatures. Samus soon discovers that a band of pirates has stolen a Metroid specimen in order to breed an unstoppable army

Sounds...like the plot of the original Metroid game. Which isn't bad, I suppose.
Too bad the only major experience the producers of this movie have had so far are American Pie and Final Destination. Even if you happen to like those movies, you have to admit that those aren't exactly the credentials you'd look for in a person making a Metroid movie.
I've pretty much given up on this movie already.

Why would they make Samus CG? You can make some kind of costume and fit someone in it... The hulk is hugantic... I think it'd be kind of hard to do with a normal person... Unless you just want them to take a bodybuilder and paint him green again :p

Christ...I hope to god that they don't pick Madonna. I, being a seventeen year old boy, could do a better job of playing a female superhero than Madonna. She is a terrible, terrible actress...Not that it matters, I bet the script and direction will suck anyway.

Let me add to this... I believe both Germanator AND I could play the right and left sides of Samus respectively better than Madonna'd do.
I believe this movie will be awful, but I'm hoping for the best. *shudders* Can't be as bad as those Dragonball Z movie plans.

There's a difference, though:
We're going to expect a Dragon Ball Z movie to suck and to basically cash in on the popularity of the franchise. After all, the movie just needs lots of big explosions, chi blasts, a kamehameha or two and lots of time spent watching the fighters act arrogant, get angry, have flashbacks or charge up their power. Then the fans will be happy.
Metroid can at least claim to be the name of some good games.

I believe Random Perfection is a fan of DBZ, Xantar.

That doesn't change the fact of my post. Notice that I didn't say that Dragon Ball Z itself just consists of lots of filler. What I said was that most fans will demand nothing more, and thus the movie probably will deliver just that. Whether you believe that Dragon Ball Z has anything more to offer is irrelevant. You might also believe that Pokemon is a pretty good and deep game, but all the people who paid money to see the Pokemon movies basically want nothing more than seeing antics by Pikachu, a few flashy battles and Ash yelling, "I choose you!" Consequently, the Pokemon movies suck regardless of the quality of the original franchise.

I agree with you Xantar, mostly. What you say is perfectly true for animated movies (none of the movies of Dragonball Z have anything to do with the series [excluding that one with Garlic], and are mostly fan-feed). However, crossing into live-action is tricky. Video games tend to go straight into live-action... but that's a "little" different just because there was no other form of uncontrolled entertainment. That is, aside from numerous cinematics, such as those in Final Fantasy games (which had a similar graphic system for its movie).
I've watched numerous Dragonball Z movies, a few of those Pokémon movies, and plenty movies based on video games. It's true about the Pokémon movies. The story is absolute crap, but I didn't care when I watched it. Brock is still the man. As well, the Dragonball Z movies were wonderous in my eyes, even though the plots were awful, and some characters were overused (Brolly... die for good this time!). But, when it came to those live-action movies based on video games... I cringed. Only Mortal Kombat (the first) was decent, as I remember.
There are several reasons why live action movies fail so very often, and why the Dragonball Z movie will also fail:
1) Low budget for paying actors.
2) Director (who is making bank off a popular game/show) has done minimal research.
3) Live action can't do what animation can.
But of course, even if Dragonball Z movie sucks, you know I'll have seen it. The producers know that too. It's one of the many phenomena of this world... kinda like how people will buy FF games without a thought.

I wonder who the hell is directing!!
I sure hope there will be enough $$$ to make this movie live up the game.

jeez, for making a dbz movie you'd think you'd have a competent director with a decent budget. See, they could make the dbz movie good if they had the same budget as matrix. That would sound pretty good, but their prolly gonna have crap effects, with crap actors
Heres the all star actor list:
Gohan: Frankie Muniz
Goku: Arnold Schwarzineigger
Bulma: Sandra Bullock
Chi Chi: Julia Roberts
Vegeta: Anthony Hopkins :D
Trunks: Brad Pitt
hmmm..... sounds great :D
