So who here is going to be picking up a copy of Splinter Cell? I think i will be, but first i have to get my Burnout 2. The game looks pretty sweet, and it was fun on Xbox. I have a PS2, and a Gamecube, but I am buying the Gamecube version...for (i think) obvious superiorities.

Also, does anyone know what the game got on IGN?? thanx.

Look mate... I don't want to dissapoint you or anything.

But the games sucks... and it sucks hard. I rented the X-Box version (which is the best of the bunch). I got to the oil rig (4 level out 9)... I couldn't stand it... to damn boring.

Let me explain... Since you own a PS2 chances are you have MGS2. Let's compare the basics of gameplay.

MGS2:
1. Approach a problem from whatever side you want, shoot the gaurd, move past him... WHATEVER you decide.
2.You get caught doing something... the alarm starts working. You run, hide... and avoid a guards till your not being searched for anymore. You get killed you start of in the previous room.
3.Excellent AI that remebers, notices very small details.

Splinter Cell:
1. Linear gameplay... based upon one gimmick. Hiding in the shadows... we all know stealth is fun. But the game is a repition of the same linear gameplay. It's been decided for you, you can approach the problem the way devvelopers wanted you to... BTW bad level desiegn.
2. You get caught, or die... Expect to load from the last checkpoint. Which could be 10 minutes away... The game is based upon trail and error. So expect to play over some part of the game for no less than half an hour.
3. The AI is very basic... sometimes dumb. The only thing the gaurds are capable of is walking around, switching on lights... and being blind at the dumbest moments when you walk past them. Just because you in the dark.

OPIONION ON GAME: Sucks...

Basicly rent before buying. If you pass the game... there really is nothing to come back to. More trail and error?? Forget it... put your money into something better... BTW do you have Skies Of Arcadia... I really recommend it.

I agree on the renting before buying part, but personally I love the game. It's the complete opposite for me, I never really liked any of the Metal Gear games, but I love Splinter Cell. I'm definetly going to pick it up for GC.

Tarakan, you are in the extreme minority in thinking Splinter Cell "sucks hard."

I personally am not a huge fan of the game, but it doesn't suck hard.

Splinter Cell is not a trial and error game.

If it is for you, then you are simply impatient. If you pay attention and take your time, you can get through every mission without dying. Its very hard, but its possible.

But if you want to run from room to room making noise and not paying attention to everything you hear and see, then you'll be trapped in trial and error hell. Don't blame a game for your shortcomings as a gamer.

Impatient?? You mean learning the the pre-defined AI walking patterns?? If that ALL the game can through at you when it comes to IA... I think it's sad.

Also forget the storyline... atmoshpere... music... it's either NON-EXISTENT or simply garbage(storyline)

Also that why I said RENT... maybe he falls in to the minority or maybe not. Cause all of my 2 friends who played the game thought it was not good. Also WTF was up with those Tomb Raider style climbing episodes in the oil rig???
