View Full Version : Does anyone else actually like Zelda:WW *better* than OoT?

I can't be the only one...granted, I'm not all that far in WW yet, but I already like it better...

I think OoT was a better game in terms of like innovation n whatever.. if OoT had modern graphics I think it would be the better game.. but thats just my opinion

Maybe it's just me, but I was never crazy about OoT's lack of a large "overworld"...I just never felt like I was ever really [b]exploring[/b[ very much...WW has that feeling of exploration that I never really got from OoT...

For it's time... OoT had a huge overworld for an Action/Adventure game.

Personally, to this point (at third temple) I think WW is a better game head to head. But that's because GCN is simply capible of more than N64. In terms of gameplay, it was just taken out of OoT (AND MM), so the award goes to OoT. As far as Story... OoT, once again because WW is kinda mooching off of it...

If I go into any more details on which I think is better, it's all spoilers... so I'll stop right here.

WW by far. Yes OOT was something and I was suprised, but not as much as I am with WW. The story is so much more captivating, and fluid.

I'm not going to say which parts, but you know if you played WW.

But LttP, which came out more than 10 years ago, had a bigger overworld, proportionately, than OoT. Heck, for that matter, the original Zelda had a much bigger overworld with a lot more to do and find in it than OoT did. None of which should be taken as me bashing OoT, it was, and still is, an incredible game.

But that'a just building on the previous games in the series...that shouldn't be held against WW. Look, most people would agree that 'The Empire Strikes Back' was a better movie with a better story than the original 'Star Wars'...yet if you hadn't seen 'Star Wars', you wouldn't understand much of what was happening in ESB, correct? But that in no way would cause you to proclaim the original 'Star Wars' a better movie...it's just the natural progression of the story.

I'm not going to say which parts, but you know if you played WW. I don't think so. The Legend is always the same, ganon gets the triforce and the hero appears to fight him. But I not far into the game yet so there might be something else more relevant to OOT.

SPOILER BELOW

There is just the part where they say the hero didn't appear one time. I don't get it, so Ganon was sealed but not by Link? What happened? If I'm going to learn about that later than don't tell me :D

I wouldn't know, because I haven't seens any Star Wars movies besides the origanal.

But that in no way would cause you to proclaim the original 'Star Wars' a better movie...it's just the natural progression of the story.

When did I say OoT is the better game?

Also, any way you look at it, in movies or games the first installment to a series will allways have the advantage. Why? Because it usually brings up the most origanal ideas. Does it make it a better game? No, in most cases the sequal is going to be better head up. But for the time it was released is/was it better?

It's like comparing Pong to virtual Tennis head up... or Mario 1 to Mario Sunshine. It's all about who rolls in the more origanality for it's time and which game brough smiles to more faces.

Right now I am in the third "Temple" on WW, so it's way too early to say if it's better or not. But I can say this much, I have seen plenty of new great challenges and feaures... and on the same note I have seen many things that just haven't changed from OoT.

Comparing an origanal game engine to a re-hashed game engine, come on now. In this light it's nothing like a movie.

I don't know if it is better yet because I'm only in the second dungeon. I like the fact that you have to travel all over the place and using the wind waker is cool. The graphics aren't bad at all they look perfectly fine to me. It's just hard to tell if it is better yet because I don't know the whole story and I just started the game.

*sort of spoiler*

The only thing that doesn't make sense is why am I going to all these dungeons, the game hasn't told me the purpose, except for the fact that there are all sorts of monsters that were probably put in those places by ganon. But why am I collecting the things like Din's Pearl, and Farore's whatever it is. Is there a purpose to them.......I guess I'll just have to find out.

Do I like Wind Waker better than Ocarina of Time?

Yes, yes I do.

Well this technically has nothng to do with either game, just was curious as to what you thought was the better item. The Wind Waker or the Ocarina.

Well from the little experience I had with the Ocarina and the time I had with the Wind Waker, I prefer the Ocarina a lot better for one it allows for manual control when inputting the song while the Wind Waker somewhat requires memorization since you have to complete the song before it hits the center.

Also, I think the Ocarina looks a helluva lot cooler than the Wind Waker.

ZebraRampage

I like the ocarina better because with the wind waker you have to time it right, like BAB said. But I like how you can switch from 3/4 time to 4/4 time or 6/4 time. Another reason why the ocarina is better is because you could fool around with it and try to play songs that you either knew, or just make up a song.

I like the Ocarina

There's already a thread kind of similar to this...

*shrugs*

Anyway, I like OoT better. Maybe because it was the first Zelda game I played (and what really got me into gaming) or maybe because its just the better game. Either way, its my favorite out of the two.

I like the Ocarina better so far, but I only know one song for the Wind Waker.

But you guys that are saying you like the Ocarina better because you have to time the Wind Waker, you do know that you dont have to push the direction right when it hits center, you just have to hold that direction while the cursor passes the center. I didnt know this at first, I thought it was like a Dance Dance Revolution thing.

Er well, I don't know what to say, but trying to read the thread in a bit more detail.

It's asking about your preference between the items , the Ocarina from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask and the Wind waker from well the Wind Waker. Not a comparison of the games...

GameKinG

Ocarina was better, but IMO it doesnt take much for an item to be better than the wind waker.

Ive been thinking which I like better, and I think If I was to go back and play OOT again, I would be bored with it compared to WW. So in that respect, I like Wind Waker better. But as for which was more fun when I first played it, which Wowed me more at the time, I still have to go with Ocarina of Time. But I just got the third pearl, so there's still a lot of game left I assume. (I get sidetracked by all the wonderful side quests and exploring the little Islands, and treasure hunting...)

If you ask me, Wind Waker has a better story..I'm not sure yet. I'll make my decision after I beat Wind Waker.

Im loving it so far.. i just got the 3 pearls and i connected them... haha.. i loved that cutscene so much me n my friend were laughin pretty good about it.. i went into that temple but i figured it was already pretty late to start a temple and it looked kinda hard....
I got side tracked a lot also just looking around the sea its so much fun :)

I really like this game... the puzzles seem a bit easy tho and the baddies are also pretty easy... Only time i was actually stuck was for about 3 minutes back in the deku tree place in that dungeon to save makar... near the end..

I find myself thinking about the game a lot when im not playing it.. at school today in french class i was thinkin bout it the whole time.. thinking cant wait to get home and play some WW...

No, the thread started off as a comparison between the two games. Someone sidetracked it by asking the question of which item was better, which, to me, is irrelevant. As far as I'm concerned, both items serve pretty much the exact same purpose. It's like comparing the Raccoon Tail in SMB3 with the Cape in SMW...I suppose you might prefer one, aesthetically, over the other, but they were essentially the same.

Actually, it was a totally different thread to begin with than it was merged so it does seem kind of confusing, still don't know why it's merged, but eh, I don't run this place.

As for your comparison, you can compare the Cape and the Raccoon Tail in both titles, but purely speaking, overall the Cape was a better item since it allowed you to float after your brief flying time was exceeded.

The Wind Waker and Ocarina may have similar features, but they don't work the same, and that is where the difference lays IMO.

Yes I knew that, but you can't really make up songs with the wind waker which is what I don't like.....but what the hell.....I never really did make any songs with the ocarina. Lol.

I guess a mod or admin didn't read the thread carefully either ;)

Anyway, I liked the Ocarina better. I liked the C buttons better than the C stick and the little bar with the WInd Waker took some time to get used to..

Now that I'm far enough into the game that the story is falling completly into place.. and I feel OoT was better. The mystery of WW drove me to a point, and right now the game simply isn't as satisfying as OoT was.

Don't get me wrong though, WW is a VERY good game, but meh OoT was better for it's time.

I think that i have to say i like Wind Waker better, not only does it imply the story of OOT and a "legend" but it evovles the story and makes it very interesting. I really like what Nintendo did with WW, and i cant wait to play some more, but now, it is spring break, and off to the bar i am going. Peace out.

Since I'm the one who started this thread, I think I have a pretty good idea about what it started off as...;)

And looking back, I realize that you're the one who sidetracked my thread with this discussion of which item was better between the two games...http://forums.off-topic.net/images/smilies/squint.gif ............;)

Well, I think you are still missing what I'm saying.

It was two different threads altogether, you started one and I started one, then the two threads were merged into one, and it started this whole confusion.
