Can you believe this? Microsoft decided not to pull a Microsoft! Amazing!

Halo 2 will not ship in 2003. Microsoft isn't going to rush it and release it on the anniversary of Xbox Live as they had planned. Yippie! We might actually get a finished Halo :D

That is good news. Maybe I'll be able to hear that purple chick this time around. In Halo, I could not. Her voice was way too feint.

There better be more weapons, and a better balance of weapons. I remember I nearly finished it, and my mate said "What's the best gun?" and I had to say, very confusingly "....Shotgun".

Yeah, this is actually quite some good news. Microsoft is showing patience with "the" Xbox Live game.

This is good in that Bungie will be able to take the time they need to make the best game possible...

the downside would be crappier holiday sales for the big box...

Meh, somthing big will come up at E3...

Also, I'm not a fan of delays... well Nintendo style delays where they never intended to release the game that early anyway. I guess I can accept it from Microsoft though.

lol... err... what I'm trying to say is when Nintendo announces release dates (in the past) they give an early release date purosely and never intend to release the game on time in the first place.

One example is Gamecube... for Fall 2000... if that were a real release date more games would have been in development and GCN would have had a HUGE launch. Then they made another fake release date, q1 2001... then another delay to fall 2001. The thing is, I believe they allways knew in the back of thier minds that the system would be released fall 2001, they just gave fake dates for some sick reason.

Anyhow, lastest word is that Halo 2 will see a release in q1 2004, I know it's not much of a delay, but if the game is gonna ship in jan/Feb or March, why not try your hardest to get it out before the holidays? I mean if it's only 2 months or so.

Yep, PlanetXbox posted this on Friday:

"Earlier today we reported that through a post at Bungie that it was revealed that Halo 2 wouldn’t be released during 2003. This evening, directly following that report, we’ve managed to pick up on a release date that’s a bit narrower than the to-be-announced 2004. Thanks to one of GameSpy’s staffers that was on sight at the Game Developers Conference, we’ve learnt that Halo 2 is currently slated for release during Q1 2004. While the date could be a bit narrower, it certainly shows the chances of seeing Halo 2 before late 2004 are more than likely. Stay with us for more news as it develops."

Damn, Bungie...if you're going to delay the game, delay it good....untl October 2004 or something, so the game is as good as possible.

This is making me mad...it looks like the Big 3 (the games that were going to make Xbox THE SYSTEM of 2003) are going to be all 2004 titles. (Halo 2, Fable, Perfect Dark 2/Zero)

I really hope Fable makes it out by the end of the year :(

Well, its for the better. I'd wait for Halo2, I really wouldn't want to see a perfectly good sequel go down the hole because of the time budget. Besides, there are plenty of other things to keep me occupied until 2k4. Rise of Nations....rise of nations......rise of na...

Oh well it's not like it's that long to wait!

I have decided to wait for a good amount of replies before saying something. Interesting that people are happy when a game is delayed like Halo 2. But any other game (example: Zelda:WW), people almost 90% of the time are like "Damn it! I want to play it now!" Intersting. But thats just my opinion.

Well, I think the situation is the same for the most part no matter what the game is, folks are happy that a game is delayed to improve it's quality, but are pissed that they got to wait later to play the game.

In this thread most folks seem to celebrate the former more than the latter while in other cases some favor the latter more than the former.

Well, I just got Halo yesterday, and I now understand why Xbox fans are pissed that it's being delayed. Hell, I'm mad at myself for not buying the game a LONG time ago.

I think it is because the first Halo seemed to be rushed at the end or something. And people feared that the same thing would happen to Halo 2, but now that it has been delayed, it kind of ensures that it might not be rushed.

The thing with Nintendo is that they do it ALL THE TIME. So people get angry.

Not only that, in Nintendo's case the game that is delayed allways seems to find itself in Japan much earlier or with better timing.

This game will own.

It will be the best new game for the Xbox of year 2004.

If you don't get a copy, then there is something wrong with you....

And if you don't own an Xbox by 2004, then there is sopmething wrong with you. Lol.

I think the delay should be expected... Bungie is not unlike Rare in forever delaying stuff. I think Halo would still be delayed endlessly had Microsoft not stepped after buying them out (the MS buyout at the sametime forced them to entirely overhaul the game while making a more focused FPS rather than a wide-open almost squad level type of FPS/strategy mix...).

2003 should still at least pretty good even without Halo 2, Perfect Dark, and Fable. And, no offense, I don't see Fable actually being any better than a pretty good RPG. Molyenaux is pretty notorious for making big promises and never delievering on them, or he does but everything else is compromised. I don't see Fable doing much of anything he promises. Other than being great looking.

either way it cant compare to metroid prime!!

HAIL NINTENDO!!

heh just chill im only joking. Its just an example of the kinda fanboyish remarks you would encounter at my old forums.

but anyway i really hope halo 2 is more balanced and polished than the first one, i say good luck.

When they were developing Halo, didn't they say that you would be able to destroy anything?? Like if you see a house and there's no easy way in, you could just blow up a wall??
Or shoot down trees (like in Turok :D)??

Why wasn't that in the final game? :(

What I don't get is that folks always blame Nintendo for the delay thing, when Microsoft themselves delayed the Xbox console as many times as Nintendo did, delayed XboxLive for a year (it was originally planned to be PART of the console), and half of it's "launch" lineup never appeared or were delayed (Fable, Malice, New Legends, Project K-X, etc). Even the ones that were delayed were nothing special (RAW, Bruce Lee, Project K-X/Kakuto Chojin, etc) when they finally released- so what the hell was the delay for??

All of Nintendo's launch lineup was there, sans Smash DX, which appeared a few weeks later.

It's just interesting when folks view it that way, when no one is perfect (just what the hell did the PS2 launch with other than Madden and Tekken??)- and ALL hardware manufacturers/publishers make several delays a year.

Perhaps it's that Nintendo's delays are more high-profile, and rock the gaming world when they DO finally release.

But eh, Halo 2 would've rocked no matter how incomplete it is- Halo 1 is the truth, and pure hype carries its sequel now. Hell, there are even people in these very boards claiming that Halo 2's less detailed, low-end polygonal character models with bumpmaps slapped over them are a HUGE leap over what was in Halo, when't it's really a step back- though for a good (XboxLive) cause.
