Interpret what you will, but the gap between the Xbox and GameCube in America continues to grow wider.

PS2 is still ravaging the other consoles in sales. Will they ever be beat by another console? I really do not think so. And PS2 has nine games out of the top 10. That is very very good. Xbox, surprisingly (to me, anyways) is doing very good and has six games on the list. And they are selling alot of consoles, too. That is very good to hear. And oh, what's this? One GCN game? And it isn't a first party game?!?!? Wow. I find that comical. LOL.

I didn't expect Xbox to do this good... I thought NGC would be doing better than it :p
I wish I had an Xbox though, cuz there are more games coming out for it that I want than there are for NGC... And there are also more that are already out... I'm just glad I have my trusty PS2 :D
Maybe NGC sales will pick up once Zelda comes out... *realizes that's what Nintendo fans have said about Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Mario, and Metroid*... hmm... meh...

Seeing as the PS2 doesn't need a speck of help, I'm really backing the XBox...and it's nice to see the big box taking Gamecube to school (as it deserves to).
The things that really stand out for me are the piss-poor Gamecube and GBA software sales, as well as SOCOM's strength. I'm really surprised to see it that high...it's an online game, and it's been out since September [face_wow]
Xbox is dominating Gamecube in hardware sales, yes...but even MORESO in software sales...
And one last thing...where's Metroid Prime? :p

Obviously the Cube really sucked sales wise in January. There's no real explination for it, and if sales continue to suck, there's no explination for that either. All I know is the Cube's lineup for 2003 is damn good, IMO. The GBA could pass the PS2 in sales, and it probably will after the GBA SP comes out...unless they call that a while nother system, which they really shouldnt...because its basically the same system. Im sick of these sales charts anyways...*shrugs*

This is pretty bad for the 'Cube. Hopefully Zelda gets it back on its feet. With 250,000+ pre-orders for it, hopefully something happens. But I wonder if American kids have been brainwashed:sneaky:;):D meh, I feel this post will be bashed to hell and back.

I have a gut feeling that Zelda is gonna move both hardware and software... but then again, it's going head up with pokemon and GBA:SP at the end of the month... That could hurt. (well, it won't hurt Nintendo, but it could hurt Celda :p)
Eventually I think Xbox will come to a point where it's sales are neck and neck with Ps2. But I just don't know about GCN.

I dont ever see that hapenning... PS2 first of all has had a year head start on both of them in which it totally dominated then once both GC and XBX came out it still didnt even sell as well as the ps2.. and over the year ps2 has outsold both xboxb and GCN combined usually...
and the 250,000+ pre orders.. im assuming some people have pre orders at more than one place.. so...

I'm talking in Week to Week sales... not overall sales. Eventually those Ps2 owners are going to start looking in other places for consoles, and Xbox has a more Ps2 competitive line up than GCN.

Dead Or Alive Volleyball on the charts... how sad a ****ty game like that sells... and the sims being number 1... is even sadder.
Dammit it's games like Suikoden 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue 2 that should be selling.
Also... will Halo ever die??

Couldnt agree more...Sega r00xors! If there was a good reason for me buying an Xbox, it would be sega's suppourt without a doubt. Panzer Dragon Orta looks hella fun! And Sega's development teams are only surpassed by Nintendo themselves.

I comeplety agree... Sega is what makes the X-Box worth ANYTHING. Everybody's beloved Halo is really a cocksucker that has monotneous levels, something like a pathetic choice of 6 weapons, and can't be played for more than 15 hours anyway. You pass the game once and that's it... not to mention I nearly died from boredrom when I got into those repeating level such as the Labriry.
Although my passionate love for JSRF, Shenmue 2, and prospects of other Sega games were overpowered me and I got an X-Box.

Justin the only games that I have TOUCHED on the X-Box are Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue 2, Jet Set Radio. Halo was my biggest dissappointment...
Let's not forget I have a cracked Xbox and can buy games for 12 Euros (10.5 dollars). So it just show that the console has no note worth exlcusives that SELL... nevermind Splinter Cell... It's was tedious and the LAME story was too much. I got to the Oil Rig and couldn't stand it anymore.
But let's not forget these are "my" gamig preferences... I'm not the type of gamer that buys a Madden/Fifa game every year. So the endless list of racing games on the X-Box doesn't really cut it for me... Not to mention that NON of them actually even touch Granm Turismo 3 in depth gameplay, production values, and god knows whatelse.

Here is just a list of non-sega and non-Gamecube Xbox titles(well, as of 2-25-03):
-Halo
-Splinter Cell
-Dead or Alive 3
-Elder Scrolls 3:Morrowwind
-Deathrow
-Mech Assault
-Rallispot Challenge
-Unreal Championship
-WWF Raw
-GUNVALKYRIE
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
-World Series Baseball
-Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions
-Max Payne
-Blinx
-Moto GP
-Project Gotham Racing
-NBA Inside Drive
-Capcom vs SNK 2:EO
-Ampped Freestyle Snowboarding
-Baulder's Gate
-Dead to Rights
-Dr Muto
-NASCAR Thunder
and more...
I think that's more than enough if pretty much any genre to satisfy an Xbox owner.

Well you have no room to speak then...
I'm talking from the perspective of a guy who likes any genre of game... and Xbox and Ps2 can satisfy in pretty much every area. The sad truth is, GCN can't.
I mean lets look at the main genres:
Sports
Racing
Fighting
RPG
Action/Adventure
First Person Shooter
Real time
err... Xbox has more categories coverd than GCN... and more subtitles of categories coverd than GCN. That's not ONLY because of Sega either!
As for the future? Don't make me laugh... while GCN is only losing support by the day, Xbox is gaining support. When is the last time you saw a developer say they are dropping support for Xbox? When is the last time you heard of a developer dropping support for GCN? Nuff said.

I don't get how the GCN even comes into play here... I don't even own a GCN cause I don't like Nitnedo's First party games.
Nowto analyze "list" of games.... It's just an opinion so there it goes.
-Halo (It was fun the first time through... multiplayer was good... still a rushed effort)
-Splinter Cell (all consoles... I still say it a BAD game.)
-Dead or Alive 3 (please... this buttuon masher against Virtual Fighter 4??)
-Elder Scrolls 3:Morrowwind (I own it for PC and X-Box... my PC with a Geforce 256 plays it better than my X-Box... sad... well aside for the pixel shading effects)
-Deathrow (herad it's good)
-Mech Assault (dumbed down version of MEchwarrior 4 where you just press shoot and that's it... not configuration of mech or anything)
-Rallispot Challenge (good game... WRC*World Rally Championship) is better. It's the gran Turismo of Rally games.
-Unreal Championship (gets boring in 5 hours of play... just get a damn PC to enjoy to enjoy it properly)
-WWF Raw(Saw it... bad animation, terrible gameplay)
-GUNVALKYRIE(never played it)
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (okay okay I give you this one... but MGS2 was avliable a long time ago on PS2. Also PS2 version
will feature skateboarding)\
-World Series Baseball (sport game... give me a break)\
-Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions (on all consoles... trash anyways)
-Max Payne (on PC a year before PS2 and X-Box)
-Blinx (own this this game... it extremely lame after world 4, no fun factor whatso ever)
-Moto GP (on all consoles)
-Project Gotham Racing (UHHMM I OWN THIS GAME... frustrating as hell)
-NBA Inside Drive (Countless updated trash sport game)
-Capcom vs SNK 2:EO(Not really a fan of 2D games... on other consoles)
-Ampped Freestyle Snowboarding (SSX Tricky is better but "okay" game"
-Baulder's Gate (On all 3 console PS2 got it a year before)
-Dead to Rights(on all consoles)
-Dr Muto(umm... okay)
-NASCAR Thunder (lame)
Only problem I find is that more than half of those aren't even exclusives.

I sorta want an Xbox, but I also have too many unplayed games on GC and PS2 right now...The only things that may force me to get an Xbox are if they make Shenmue 3 (I played #2 on DC, European version), Project Ego (or Fable, whatever it's called now), and I still wanna play the new ToeJam and Earl game. Don't waste your time on TJ & E III. I only played a demo and I thought the game was stupid as hell. The move cutscenes are pretty funny, but after that, it gets really dumb and has no point. But on the subject of Quality. I think each console has its own shine. PS2 people gloat about the user base and having the most games. NGC people gloat about all the quality games from Nintendo that most people never get the chance to play because (in a whiny girl voice) "They are too kiddy". And XBox people gloat about Power. So every console has something to back it, but most Americans think Power is better then Quality. (That wasn't meant as a put down to XBox owners). But this is what America is coming to, we want our gas slogging cars/trucks/SUV's and don't give a damn about out future and they think that new fuels (ie: Water, Air, etc...) are "too slow" for the consumer. Meaning **** the atmosphere, I want to drive fast and kill other people while killing billions more in the future.

Well, first off the game is Animal Crossing.
As for the list, I can understand with Luigi's Manion, it was a fun game, but it was too easy, too short and well just lacking something special so I can see what he means.
Animal Crossing is either a love or hate game in my book. I mean some people may be put off by the fact there is no true ending, the graphics are rather outdated and blocky, the typing is a b!tch and well the game doesn't have much action, for all it's faults, it's still a pretty neat game.
I think the problem from Mario stems more from expectations than anything else. I mean sure Mario Sunshine had it's fault such as the camera, the so-so graphics and well the short number of levels. But I think the thing that hate the game the most was the lack of variety, a lack of variety in the level design (some could say Nintendo was brave in not sticking to the conventional level design of fire, ice, water and whatever else) but the uniform theme made it hard for any level to be too different from any other. A lack of variety in the goals, I mean each level had atleast one "secret" area, one 100 gold coings search, 8 red coins search, boss battle and the Water Mario chase. After a while it starts to wear thin, but I think it was a fun game, just not too much variety for the long haul or any real reason to complete it then to find your ego. By complete, I mean get 120 Shines.
Crono
02-25-2003, 08:59 PM
Not only that, but if you put added the FLUDD in SM64, you could basically call it Super Mario Sunshine. Seriously, the layout of things was EXACTLY the same. 120 shines (wow, same number of SM64's Stars), 100 coins to get a shine (and a star in SM64), and whenever you entered a level you had to pick the event you wanted (again, exactly like SM64). Reminds me of Majora's Mask. When practically every character was from OoT (but then again, wasnt Termina like a parallel dimension or something?). Nintendo should have put more thought into SMS. Don't even get me started on how crappy Luigi's Mansion was. Anyway, what I should say is, Joeiss' friend was right IMO. Games like SF and SMS that were supposed to be big hitters turned out to be crappy, while IMO, AC on the other hand was good. MP was alright, but not like super ultra amazing good.
If Wind Waker disappoints, I will lose all faith in Nintendo. I hope to God that "Mario 128" or "AC2" dont come out this year, or else they will be crappy rushed sequels.

Ya know, when people say things like "just take Mario 64 and put FLUDD in it and you have SMS"....I have to take that as a great compliment. Why not be compared to the best 3d platformer ever? Is that such a negative thing...In fact, that's all I ever wanted after i played Mario 64, another Mario 64...That's what I got with SMS, and it's a fantastic game. After all, games are about the fun you have while playing them, not about analyzing what it does or doesn't have, or what it "could have been." What did you want SMS to be? Show me a better way to make a great 3d platformer starring our favorite plumber and I'll see your side. Until something comes along and destroys the concept of Mario 64, I'll be happy to play many a like it. It's got new levels, new gadgets, a new storyline...same fantastic gameplay. It's really all I wanted and was as pleased as could be.
Crono also mentioned Majora's Mask...Another case of a game being similar to its predecessor. In this case, the sequel was in fact better. I think MM had better gameplay, a better story, and it was just a better game. Being the same doesn't mean stale, it's just giving out more of the greatness. Change is fantastic, though people want something they are familiar with. Take Wind Waker...Nintendo fans had a collective hernia when they saw the new graphics design, but guess what stayed in tact? Control scheme, basic boy saves girl storyline, familiar enemies, gameplay, etc. ya know why? Becayse this has worked in the past and will continue to. Super Mario 64=amazing game. SMS=similar game. So...SMS=amazing game. I think it's the same story with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark, games have a tendency to do this on Nintendo consoles, but ya know...I'm really not complaining because quite frankly I would NEVER get bored if all Nintendo did was rehash Super Mario 64 or OoT for awhile...Just change the levels, I'd be fine.
P.S Though...this argument is sort of silly coming from me considering I don't think a better game has been made since the 2D era of Super Mario World and A Link to The Past...

I have to wonder if people think Nintendo doesn't know how to make a game. A lot of people are "weaned" on the PS(2) and think that when they see a 'Cube game from Nintendo like Mario, they think it sucks because its not what it "should" be. If Nintendo just took the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES and out it in 3D with nothing else new, people would bitch and moan on how its just Super Mario Bros. with a new coat of paint. Sound familiar? SM64/SMS;) Now it seems that people don't take anything from Nintendo as good anymore just because Nintendo takes a familiar character and gives him a fresh new look in a fresh new environment. Isn't this what most people want? People don't seem to want that. They just find anything to bitch and moan about from Nintendo and blow it out of proportion. I liked SMS, it was good. Luigi's Mansion was good, but it was too short and offered really no replay value. A rental was good enough for me. I liked SFA because it was similar to Zelda, with the exception that Fox was walking:eek: instead of flying. But people bitch that its not a "Traditional" Star Fox game. There have been only 2 SF games and people already think its the only way to play SF. I bet when the new SF comes out from Namco, people will find something to bitch about. Kind of like the new Zelda. People want a realistic one, but when they dont get it, they say it sucks. There is more then just what meets the eye. But to the casual gamer, looks are everything. (Just like real life:eek: ) But this is just my rant, and with all rants from me, people will blow it out. meh

Looking at the GBA sales, I can fully say they blow my mind. I just bought a GBA and I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that it is my WORST gaming purchase I've ever made.
1) Its too small. Its not made for grown hands (yes I realize its intended for children, but it sucks for me) and I end up playing Ogre Battle Tactics by laying the thing on the table and pushing buttons with my index finger.
2) The horrific display. How they could release a system with little to no visibility BLOWS MY MIND. I have to set up a special light over my shoulder just to see well enought to play the damn thing.
3) The New One. There is no way in hell I am spending another $100 so that I can get a GBA with all the features that should have been in the first one.
The games are good. But the system itself is a travesty.

I have 2 games... Why would I pay 50 Euros for a GBA game when a PS2 game from amazon costs 62 euros??

Well, for one thing, I've already played SM64 years ago and beat it tons of times, When I go out and spend 80 dollars on something, I don't expect it to be almost the exact same thing as something that I've played 6 years ago. I could have easily hooked up my N64 and played it again. The worst part was it's been 6 years since SM64, then Nintendo comes and gives us a rehash.
What did I want SMS to be? Something different, that's all. I don't know how exactly, but I know that if Shiggy put his mind into it he could have created a much better game than SMS.
As for MM, IMO, it was nothing compared to OoT. At least OoT is part of the real Zelda story, and not some stupid sidequest thing. I mean, MM was fun, but the save system was just ridiculous. Actually I think that as MM's only downfall, and it's shortness.

I played SMS, and my not liking the game has nothing to do with its 'similarity' to SM64.
I was playing Ratchet and Clank at around the same time, and SMS just couldn't compare in any area. R&C is much more polished, the level design is fresh and creative, and the hoards of weapons add a completely new feel to the genre. The game was also humerous, had a great art style, and boasted much better graphics and animation. Oh, and it had a much better concept. SMS - Come on...a fat italian plumber with a super soaker?.
If I played SMS 5 years ago, I would have probably enjoyed it. Probably.
As for GBA...the software lineup is horrible, IMO. And I agree with Strangler in that it's way too small. When I was playing my cousin's GBA, the joints in my hands started to ache. I mean I'm a big man...and they obviously can't cater to young kids with small hands and big young men with large hands...but that also means they won't be getting my money. Dammit.

I think MM was just fine... MM shouldn't even be in the same boat as SMS because there is a huge difference. SMS is on newer hardware while MM was just a sequal on the same hardware as OoT.
MM is very innovative...the way time works is great. The masks add to the game a lot too. I think MM is just as good as OoT now that I look back. OoT Re-creates the story of Zelda, and MM is just a normal addition to the series just like the GBC games. More gameplay based than story based. The gameplay is what sets it apart from OoT.
I sometimes wish MM was on Xbox, it would make MUCH better use of the time travel thing. The game could basically record all your actions to the hard drive, and when you go back in time have a second link in the world doing the same things you did before. So when you go back in time you don't have to do certain things over and over.
I know I'm soaring way off subject but eh.

I thought MM was a perfectly fine game and while I prefer a save anywhere sort of system (meaning OoT's), I thought MM's save system worked good enough with the whole time dealy (which I didn't really mind... infact I thought it was neat... Getting access to different secrets or whatevers at different days and times and such...)... The whole time system and the masks were enough to make it pretty fresh and such over OoT, but of course using pretty much all the same character models and the exact same controls and everything was kind of meh... They could have added some more in that department...
But I don't think a sequel that came out a couple years after the first (and on the same hardware) compares to a game that comes out like 6 years later and on different hardware.... *shrugs*
