Wow, I am kind of dissapointed. Really, the score was awesome but not a platinum.
10, 10, and a 9.5

I think it's weird that you're dissapointed. The average of those three scores is about 98%. What is there to be dissapointed about? I'd say you're expectations are beyond reasonable. Besides, other's opinions of video games should not shadow your own enjoyment for a game. Nor should it have an affect on your own personal opinion of the game.
You have to remember that the game is 5 years old pretty much. Other games have built off of OOT's inventive gameplay mechanics. As good as OOT is...it's slipped a bit due to other games getting better. That's one hella good score for a 5 year old game.

I believe he's saying it's based off the same sort of gameplay and basic controls as OoT... which is almost 5 years old... :-o
Kind of like if 5 years from now, GTA was still using the exact same kind of gameplay and all... or something... although there will probably be more GTA games in 5 years then there would be Zelda :p
bah..i was talking about oot.
*crawls under his bed*
EDIT: As for Zelda: WW not getting platinum...i haven't played it yet so I'll reserve judgement.

No, no, no... I know for a fact the game will be one of the best... I am just dissapointed to see that it's not beating OoT's score. Zelda OoT is my favorite game of all time, and I had really high hopes for Wind Waker ever since the Famitsu review. Whatever, if you go here (http://boards.gamers.com/messages/overview.asp?name=egm&page=1), you'll pretty much laugh your asses off on how many fanboys are bashing on eachother.
Anyways, Zelda is awesome, and I am proud of the scores, but I made a bet with my friend that it will get a Platinum in the next EGM. But see, I lost the bet by a damn 0.5. :(
Other than that, don't you guys get the wrong idea about me. I am not like that, it's just I want great games to get a Platinum. After playing Halo, I was glad to see what it got. Same with other games like OoT and Vice City.

That's exactly what I am thinking.
And guys, I also found this....
Greg:
Overall- 10
visuals-10
sound- 9
ingenuity- 7
replay-5
Shane:
Overall- 10
visuals-10
sound- 9
ingenuity- 8
replay-7
Mark:
Overall- 9.5
visuals-10
sound- 8
ingenuity- 9
replay-7
The review is 5 pages long and higly comprehensive.
Graphics do deserve a 10... It really sucks you into the game. But wahtever... I think Mark gave it a 9.5 because he said it got annoying at one part having to go through the water.. But whatever, Zelda is awesome to me... and I enjoy the game more than what some people have to say about it.
And also, has anyone noticed how some reviewers have gotten a bit more striced after 2002?

*must resist replying....can't....resist!* I personally am dissapointed. I was more then expecting for Zelda to get a Platinum. After all the 10's in Japan (with the exception of 1 or 2 lowly mages:D), I am very surprised to hear a 9.5 from an EGM reviewer. And I agree, I think EGM is a little stricter now. I am very pissed now. *continues break :sneaky:*

That's exactly how I feel...
Damn, your sig is so nice..................

Well.. uh.. on topic, I think that people will like this game regardless. Lately people have been labelling whole games as trash just because a few elements were executed poorly. Look at Super Mario Sunshine--it was a great game, but because a few things sucked, some people said it was the worst game they've ever played. WTF? Those people just confuse me. Hopefully it doesn't happen with Zelda at all--I've been looking forward to it and I don't care if reviews are a little off. It's a game and I want to enjoy it.

I hear ya.
I really enjoyed SMS. Sure it wasn't Mario 64, but how can you improve on that? I mean it's a tuff job. They used SM64 elements with a new engine of gameplay, and it was so good. Exploration wise, gameplay wise, and graphically i liked it. Now that I found out about the "B" before turning on your GC, SMS plays even betta.
I think it's a tougher job to keep up such a great reputation for so long (e.g. Mario/Zelda) than making a brand new game. Bringing out new Mario/Zelda games that still manage to get these great revies.
Because immediately it has highexpectations, and to be able to at least "impress" the people playing these games, I think that's a huge achievement in itself.

jesus christ you guys zelda doesnt get a platinum from EGM and every single nintendo fan jumps to one conclusion.. oh yeah.. rating has gotten harder lately anyway.. so this is a good score  maybe just maybe it didnt deserve a platinum :p

Well a whacky Camera can do that :p

no matter how good a game is, there'll always be someone who finds a problem with it, because we all know, no game is perfect, and they will never be completely perfect since different people have different opinions. I dont see two 10's and a 9.5 as a disappointing score, in fact thats an awesome score. This game will rule, regardless of a missing 0.5

I agree... even if a game gets one 10.0 it scored pretty good. All it means is two guys couldn't find a big enough problem with the game to even dock it half a point.... and the guy who did find a reason to score it lower still gave it the second highest score possible.

Well, I think those are all pretty cool games, the only time I have an issue with EGM reviews is when one person gives the game like a 8 and then another gives the game like a 5 or so, those are the games where it's hard to judge if you like it or not.
And how exactly would Wind Waker beat OoT scores, I mean the game got straight 10s so you can't beat perfection.

but, if it doesn't get those same perfect 10s again one would imagine that somthing got worse about the game... It doesn't need to score better in this case, but people would like to see a sequal score equal or better than the first game.

That might be true, but I mean it's not like it's far off from the original, and to some point, this is the 3rd Zelda game using this engine so I'm pretty shocked the score didn't far off much further.

10 doesnt really mean perfection in the reviewing world, cause nobody can know what perfect is, when there is no example of perfect.
10 is just a really good score for a great job.

I think why most people are upset is because Famitsu, a much stricter grader IMO, gave the game a perfect score (just like OoT), and then EGM doesn't score it perfectly or even the same as OoT (did it get a platinum with EGM?)
Anyways, thats my theory...

Mark said the reason he ave it a 9.5 basically was because he didnt like the long rides from Island to Island. I think he also said that it was a little too easy. But meh. His opinion is his, and mine is mine. (As people here have seen). Kind of off topic, but I too got my first issue yesterday:D Hopefully 11 more come after that.

The reason is that ocarnia of time was a revolution in gaming. I mean how many games did you see that were 3d w/ a completely interactive environments back then. It was completely amazing and seriously I don't htink any other 3d game at hte time could keep up with it.

Some qoutes from the review:
"Maybe that's why when we started playing it, the first 5 people that walked into the room yelled "[Expletive], the animation is incredible!"
"Every character and enemy movement, every reaction, and every facial expression is seamless and fluidly animated on a level no other game ever made can touch."
"even Grand Theft Auto-loving holdouts will be won over if they would just play the game themselves"
"It's one of the most unique and enjoyable games ever made- go play it"
And that's from the guy who gave it a 9.5  :D. (Not that that's a bad score mind you)
"This is a worthy inheritor of the Zelda crown"
"an instant classic no gamer should miss"
"these graphics are astounding"
"longtime Zelda fanatics will cream their tunic when they hear these arrangements of classic themes, and the haunting new tracks are also great"
"Wind Waker's core gameplay is the best the series has ever had"
"the world is so perfectly realized that everything just fits"
"Now that I've played the game, I couldn't imagine the game looking any other way"
"These dungeons impress me like none of the previous Zelda's before it"
"I have no complaints at all against The Wind Waker"
"It's yet another masterpiece of the Legend of Zelda series"
"My biggest concern with Zelda was actually forcing myself to stop playing it so I could get some sleep before I had to go to work the next day"
"Once you see it, it's easy to understand why Nintendo did what they did"
"The animation in this game is without equal"
"now the realistic Link in Soul Calibur 2 looks pretty rediculous to us now"
"fighting has never been as deep, or fun, in any Zelda game"
"You only need to hear 5 words about this game: You. Must. Play. This Game!"

That's the special thing about a 10.0... a 10.0 represents both a 10, and every number greater than 10. I mean, some games a reviewer would give a 15 if they could, and some games are barely at that 10.
Zelda OoT had the mystical perfect 10.. meaning it wasn't even close to a borderline 10. They could have wanted to give it a 20 for all we know (meaning the game dropped 10.5.. not so close anymore is it?) ;). But when a game gets a 9.5, and two 10's, it reflects on those 10s as being borderline.
That's just what I think... no matter how confusing it may sound :)

My EB said it was coming out on March 25th, and I know that even if you preorder it you can't get it till the day after, which is March 26th, but I'm not exactly sure so don't take my word for it.

I thought that Super Mario Sunshine didnt get the respect it deserved. People said it sucked, even though it is the best game I have ever played.
But Back to WW. I have that issue of EGM. I havent played the game, so I cant say its bad or good. But those scores are good. When I fist saw the Wind Waker screenshots. I was more into the fluid animation than the gameplay.

Nah That wasnt the reason...They liked the new look...and they would be like''everyone else hates the new look, lets hate it too!''
I think it was because some areas got repetitive...or something...
