View Full Version : Tabbed Browsing, I love it!

Just downloaded Chimera for Mac OS X. Yes, Safari is good. But for some strange reason, it stalls on IGN, and it freezes the borwser temporarily. So instead of booting up Explorer again, I decided to give Chimera a shot.

The one big feature people praise Chimera for is tabbed browsing. Basically, instead of having new webpages open in a new window, they all open in the same window, in different tabs. So if you browse multiple sites at once, they all load up in the same size window, and you don't need to minimize them, and switch to another, just click on another tab going across the screen. It's very nice.

You can also have tabbed bookmarks, where you can load something like "News" and it will open multiple tabs loading different pages. So you can open multiple sites at once. Very neat feature.

Now, if only Safari had this. I have to say, I'm surprised tabbed browsing isn't more popular than it is. I'm not sure I want to give it up.

Not sure if there is a Windows browser with tabs, but if there is, ditch IE6 ASAP :)

It's what I used before Safari. The tabbed browsing is nice to have. I hope Apple adds in it in their next Safari release.

yes. Mozilla tho is basically just Netscape.

they look almost identical.

my favorite, is the new Opera 7, its beta, but it loads every webpage like IE does,

meaning all thoes sites that have teh crappy web designers, that only designed webpages to work with IE, and always messed up in other ones like Netscape.... they are running perfectly in this.

and it has the tabs too.

Actually windows browsers have had tabs for quite a while now.

Gawd, where have you all been?

Opera has had tabbed browsing since version 4.

Mozilla has had tabbed browsing for about 18 months.

I don't know how you've all lived without it since.

And anyone who didn't ditch IE 2 years ago is a retard anyway.

Anyone who is going to pay for a web browser (Opera) is the real fool.

And I'm living without tabbed browsing and doing just fine.

Blame MS if anyone. If MS obeyed W3 standards, then when it works in IE, it works in all browsers.

Those of you who use Opera might be amused by this (http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2003/02/14/).

In response to MSN intentionally breaking Opera's pages, the created the bork edition, which renders MSN in Bork language.

In my opinion Opera is good enough to warrant me paying for it. If you don't want to, fine.
And just becaues you can live without tabbed browsing doesn't mean other poeple can. Chances are you've never even tried it...?

He said he had tried tabbed browsing, before he used Opera. From the sounds of it, he used Chimera, which is a very good browser as well, as opposed to some which do tabs poorly.

Yes, as gekko has already stated, I have used tabbed browsing, in Chimera, which I'd say is probably the best browser for OS X as of now. Since I bought Jaguar though, I've been using Safari which is a little faster but doesn't have everything Chimera has. And I did like tabs, their very convient if you want to grab something like a link or picture from a website to show on a forum or something but it wasn't something I couldn't live without. I like Safari's faster initial boot. Its all a matter of opinion. Minimizing windows, I don't mind.

Where's the tabs? I can't find them? Do I have to throw away (v60) first?

Open the terminal, enter:

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1

Open Safari, go to the bottom option in the Debug menu.

MSN ...Bork....goes to fire up Opera 7.03.

Opera can be had for free with a small advertising banner also. It would cost some $59 cdn to have it with out ads.

Does Phoenix have tabbed browsing??

edit: stupid Opera doesn't work properly at moment.
