Hey, I was wondering if someone could suggest some good RPGs that are coming out this year. Im kinda new to the RP genre so far ive played:

Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 9 (Beaten)
Final Fantasy 10 (Beaten)
Chrono Cross

I really expand from the Final Fantasy series and im not sure what games would be good. If someone could give me some suggestions of games coming out this year id really apreciate it.

Well... Xenosaga is coming out in like 2 weeks I think. That game got almost a perfect score from OPM, but I suggest you read their review before you come to conclusions, it may not be your type of game (the story is MASSIVE like you wouldn't believe). Breath Of Fire V comes out around that same time, too, and OPM said it had one of the best battle systems in an RPG they've ever seen. Then again, wait until you can read a review.

Other than that theres:
Star Ocean 3 (which will be HUGE, but not out til September)
.hack//infection (comes out really soon, and the gameplay mechanics sound awesome, its like an online world but you're playing offline, and an awesome story, go read a preview if you want, or watch the anime)
Oh! there's also Dark Cloud 2... which got game of the month in OPM... comes out this wednesday... if you liked the first, then this is a must have.

Other than that I think that's it... besides FFX-2... but I really, if you want another rpg, decide between Xenosaga, .hack, BoFV or Dark Cloud 2. It's up to you, but maybe reviews can be of help.

And as for RPGs that are already out, Suikoden III owns big time, but too bad, it's been discontinued.

1. Wild Arm 3 (an astounding RPG IMO)
2. Legend Of Legia 2 (sequel to the most underated RPG on the PSOne)
3. Xenosaga (heard it's good)
4.Dark Cloud 2 (pick up Dark Cloud 1 for PS2... it's a platinum title)
5. Chrono Break (next game in the series of Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross)
6. Breath Of Fire 5 (IMO it sucks...)

First CB wasn't even announced, and I can guarantee it won't be out this year...

Oh, and I guess you've played BoFV, right? Even though it's not even out yet, and Breath Of Fire is THE most underrated series in the world, I don't care what anyone says.

Chrono Break is rumoured... so yes you are right.

Speaking of Breath Of Fire 5... I guess it will suck cause I picked up Breath Of Fire 4 2 weeks ago. Playing it right now... it just plain sucks. Lame battle system, bad story line, most of all...

FRUSTRATING and pointless minigames. I've played the damn game for 15-20 hours. I must have stumbled across at least 10 useless, pointless, frastrating, badly planned minigames.

Okay, well, BoFV is totally different from BoFIV... and BoFIII and BoFII are the best in the series, you should play them. But it's not fair to make a judgement on BoFV just because of BoFIV..

Heh, what about the commonly discontinued Suikoden series? *thinks* But, then again... even I haven't played much Breath of Fire (though I've heard lots of good about it... more than for Suikoden).

heh... well, Suikoden is underrated too. As are other RPG series... (pretty much anything other than FF..)

are you looking to buy something right now? Because, if so, Xenosaga comes out on the 25th. and not only will that game be awesome (although i must say, beware a LONG LONG extremely complex story) you also get a free art book of the game for preordering, and if you order online at gamestop (i believe thats where it is) you get a Xenosaga t-shirt and some other kind of booklet thing.

it depends on wut you are more looking for. Dark Cloud 2 comes out in on the 18th, its pure fun. not so much a complex story or long cutscenes, just tons of good rpg fun.

if you want a good RPG with a massive life changing story, go for Xenosaga.

and if you want a mix of both, a more traditional RPG, then Breath of Fire V is the game you want.

besides those theres .Hack, which is apprently a really good game with an awesome complex story. I've been watching the anime series on TV (.Hack//SIGN which takes place a little before the game .Hack//INFECTION) and its very cool. you also get a 45 minute dvd anime movie of OVA which is another story of .Hack and comes with the game.

i am presonally going for xenosaga right now, then i'm saving my money for Zelda:WW. all in good time i'd like to own all these RPGs.

and even though this is in PS2 forum, if you do have GCN, i would also recommend Skies of Arcadia: Legends, i rented it and its a very good RPG.

Final Fantasy Origins (FF1 and FF2) come out in mid march I believe, those could be worth picking up if you have some spare money. FF11 has been said to be released sometime in late summer or fall, if you're interested in MMORPGs. FFX-2 should be out by late fall, and of course Star Ocean 3 sometime in september. This really is a year for RPGs, keep your eyes open and start saving your money.

5. Kingdom Hearts (This game is already out and my whole post is meant for this year... but get this game, not only is it not complicated but it's one of my favorites... It's really fun.)
