they released the first in a series of short anime-inspired matrix prequels/side stories. this first one is called the second renaissance part 1, which details the machine's origins....I think it was VERY well done....especially the parallels they made to the vietnam war (the person executing the robot on its knees with a pistol), the holocaust (dumping bodies in mass graves) , and the passive protest marches used by the likes of dr. martin luther king jr. and gandhi (million machine march). That part with the female robot was really great too...Its kinda like a big exxageration on prejudice in the world today, and it shows how absurd it is to hate another human being because of their beliefs/skin color/whatever when you can feel pity for a ROBOT in a CARTOON!
It also put a very different perspective of the Matrix in my mind. Adds alot of depth to the story, instead of just having black and white good vs evil, you've got a persecuted...race (?)...that fought back for its rights and laid the smack down on its oppressors...who they in turn oppress.
