IGN just revealed the first (official) news on MotoGP 2. The developers have been teasing us lately with blurred screen shots, their desktop covered with screen shots, but covered up by a window, and the menu shot with the controller disconnected message. So cruel, but it's all good, I can beat them on the track :). Now IGN just showed the screens on the sequel to one of the best games on Xbox.

Moto GP 2: First Look

The first tidbits of info and fresh screens of THQ's online moto racer.

January 29, 2003 - When the original Moto GP debuted on Xbox in spring of 2002, gamers were swept away by its nearly photo-realistic graphics and racing physics. But the truly gigantic news came later in the year when gamers realized the THQ motorcycle racer sitting under their noses the whole time, was actually an Xbox Live game waiting to happen once November 15 rolled around. So it's no surprise then that a follow up, Moto GP 2 is in development and will hit the Xbox and Xbox Live this summer.

"We're thrilled to offer MotoGP 2, the next installment in ultimate head-to-head motorcycle racing for the Xbox," said Tim Walsh, Senior Vice President, International Publishing, THQ." Being one of the first Xbox titles online with Xbox Live! has given THQ's MotoGP franchise a head start on the competition and MotoGP 2 has enough horse-power to give race fans and video game fans alike a thrilling competitive experience."

The competitive head to head racing gave the original title a quiet but intense following early on in Xbox Live's existence. For the sequel, THQ and developer Climax promise the full complement of race modes seen in the original plus a new "tag" mode, custom rider/bike creation and a framerate locked at 60 fps, both online through Xbox Live and off. That last bit will be quite a feat in and of itself if you recall how detailed and gorgeous this game is. On the other hand, 60 framers per second should be the standard for racers on Xbox by now. Accomplishing this on Xbox Live with 16 riders on the same track? That could be the technological achievement of the year if Climax can pull it off.

"Right out of the gate THQ set a high standard for games on Xbox Live with MotoGP," stated J Allard, Vice President, Xbox. "MotoGP 2 takes the franchise to a new level and features intense online racing action that showcases the technological prowess of Xbox and Microsoft's leadership in online console gaming. I can't wait to play this game on Xbox Live."

Since Xbox Live users will be able to heckle Allard in real time as they blow by him doing a buck eighty, the competitive side of Moto GP 2 should continue to be the strength of the game. With it's current release scheduled for summer (June through August for most people, anytime before November for game publishers) Moto GP 2 should be part of the critical second wave of Xbox Live enabled games. And it should be the final crushing blow for those anxious fans who were waiting for Re-Volt 2 to be the next great Xbox Live racer. Enjoy these first screens and be sure to check IGN in the coming weeks for even more on Moto GP 2.

My god, can we say beautiful? I can't wait, they just better get this game out before I ship out, or I'll be pissed.

Whooo :D There's no greater power than the X.

I especially like the water-droplets on the first screen. Were those in the first game?

..........well, the graphics are nice, but the people look like crap. But I guess you're going too fast to notice. :p
