Ok, here I am at 0100 hrs... (that's 1 am for all you normal people), and I'm stuck at Battalion Staff Duty. I will be here for another 8 hours. Ahhhh... what to do, what to do, what to do.

I'm not even supposed to be on the internet, but we snuck a laptop and was able to get on the net. But the problem is that they have all gaming sites closed off. So that means, anything that is game related (both sports and video) are off limits. No IGN, No ESPN, No NFL.com, No NBA.com, No Gamespot, Yahoo Sports is not even allowed.

Now I know what you are thinking... hey, GT is game related. Oh, you are so right, but I guess GT got past the Governments prying eyes. Lets see how long you guys can stay there before they try to shut us down.

So here I sit, in my green monkey suit. Trying to figure out what to do... oh look, I can count hairs on my arms. Doesn't that sound like fun! Here I go. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 . . . zzzz. Somebody please shoot me!

But seriously, if you can access GT, why not ask your GT brethren to get the info you are looking for and post it for you or something.

Or couldn't you go through those "cache" thing that folk use to get free GameSpot and stuff?

I'm not looking for anything specific, just something to pass my time. Anything to pass the time. And I'm sure if any big news happens around the gaming world while I'm stuck here, the GT members will be more then happy to post it and talk about it. I just have to keep thinking to myself, it's only one day.

Thanks 666 (yeah, thats evil :D ) addictinggames.com didn't work.

Titans 34, Steelers 31 (OT)

Quarterback Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans, linebacker Jason Gildon of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Steelers kicker Jeff Reed are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for December, the NFL announced.

McNair guided the Titans to the NFL's only undefeated December (5-0), an AFC South division title and the AFC's No. 2 playoff seed by completing 81 of 133 passes (60.9 percent) for 970 yards with five touchdowns and one interception for a 92.6 December passer rating. McNair also stymied opponents with his running, rushing for 197 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries (7.6-yard average) despite missing practice time due to injuries.

Steve McNair played through nagging injuries to compile one of the finest months of his career.

In a Dec. 22 victory against Jacksonville (28-10), McNair became only the fifth quarterback in NFL history to pass for 18,000 yards as well as rush for 3,000 in a career, joining RANDALL CUNNINGHAM, JOHN ELWAY, Fran Tarkenton and STEVE YOUNG.

The 6-foot-2, 229-pound eight-year veteran from Alcorn State produced his most prolific passing season (3,387 yards) and rushed for more than 400 yards for the fourth time in the past five years (440). McNair also posted career highs in touchdown passes (22) and completions (301) in 16 starts for the Titans.

"I'm excited because Steve feels better than he has in the past few weeks and we have a chance to have a healthy Steve McNair as we start the playoffs," said Titans head coach JEFF FISHER, who guided his club to 10 victories in its last 11 regular-season games.

This is McNair's first AFC Offensive Player of the Month Award.

In Pittsburgh's five December games, Gildon stepped forward to notch 21 tackles (18 solo) with 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles to help the Steelers win four games and earn the inaugural AFC North Division championship. This season marks Pittsburgh's seventh division title since BILL COWHER became head coach in 1992.

Gildon posted a pair of multi-sack games in December and tied fellow linebacker Joey Porter for the team lead in sacks for the season with 9.0. No other linebacker in the AFC finished 2002 with more than 8.0 sacks. As a unit, the Pittsburgh defense led the AFC with 50.0 sacks. Since 1982, the Steelers have now reached 50.0 sacks five times.

"Our defense is making plays," Cowher said. "Jason Gildon has played solid and is disrupting offenses.

"We are comfortable with the things we are doing," Cowher added. "We are playing fast. There is not a lot of thinking going on and we are just playing. When we do that, we're a pretty sound group."

In his ninth year from Oklahoma State, this is Gildon's first AFC Defensive Player of the Month Award.

Gildon's teammate Reed has become a special teams weapon for the Steelers, evidenced by his December production of 14 for 15 in field goal tries, including 4 for 5 kicking between 40-50 yards. Reed, an undrafted rookie from North Carolina, also successfully kicked his lone 50-yard attempt of the month.

"I have a lot of faith in him," Cowher said of Reed. "He continues to be a clutch kicker for us."

This is Reed's first AFC Special Teams Player of the Month Award.

Eagles 20, Falcons 6

For anyone who was wondering, Donovan McNabb is doing just fine.

And Michael Vick still has a few lessons to learn.

McNabb made a triumphant return from a broken ankle to lead Philadelphia past Vick's Atlanta Falcons 20-6, putting the Eagles within a victory of their first Super Bowl in 22 years.

Bobby Taylor returned in an interception 39 yards for an early touchdown that put the Eagles ahead, and Vick & Co. never caught up.

The game was billed as a matchup between two of the game's shining stars: McNabb, the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback, against the guy he once showed around the Syracuse campus.

Vick's eye-popping speed and prodigious arm might one day carry him to heights higher than McNabb, but not on this frigid night at the "Concrete Jungle." Crusty ole' Veterans Stadium, occupied by 66,452 towel-waving fans, will hang around for one more game, the NFC championship against either Tampa Bay or San Francisco.

"I'm still a little rusty according to everyone else," McNabb said. "I came out here and wanted to calm everyone down and play football again. Everyone talked about the mobility and the rust. I just wanted to play football."

Vick got to the end zone once, but the 20-yard run -- which would have tied the game in the third quarter -- was called back by a holding penalty. Otherwise, the Eagles' defense ruled the day.

"You need to have home games in the playoffs," Vick said. "It's tough to win on the road in the playoffs. The turf was tough, and they seemed to be getting the calls."

McNabb, playing his first game since Nov. 17, did just enough on offense to earn the top-seeded Eagles at least another game. He showed right away that his right ankle was OK.

On Philadelphia's second offensive play, McNabb scrambled to his right, raced past Keith Brooking and scooted out of bounds with a 19-yard run.

"Getting on the sideline, I wanted to continue warming it up," McNabb said. "In weather like this, you want to continue to keep your body loose."

The Falcons, after falling behind 13-0, made a game of it until McNabb sealed the victory with 6:26 remaining.

On fourth-and-1 at the Philadelphia 35, McNabb got some huge blocks up front to hold off the blitzing Falcons and threw to James Thrash, who spun away from Ray Buchanan and raced all the way to the end zone for the only offensive touchdown of the night.

McNabb completed 20 of 30 passes for 247 yards.

Vick, who made the Pro Bowl in his first year as a starter, was sacked three times and threw two interceptions -- one that was returned for Philadelphia' first touchdown.

The 22-year-old quarterback finished 22 of 38 passing for 274 yards. He also ran for 30 yards on six carries.

In the third quarter, Vick turned on his afterburners and appeared to tie the game up for the Falcons.

On second down from the Philly 20, Vick dropped back to pass, but found a seam up the middle. He took a vicious hit from Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins and ricocheted into the end zone for an apparent score.

With both players sprawled on the field, the crowd's groans turned to cheers when they spotted a yellow flag back downfield. A holding penalty against Travis Claridge negated the score; two plays later, Jay Feely missed a 37-yard field goal that seemed to sap some life out of the Falcons.

Otherwise, the Philadelphia defense, with four Pro Bowlers, came up huge against one of the NFL's highest-scoring offenses.

The Falcons, who became the first visiting team ever to win a playoff game at Green Bay's Lambeau Field last weekend, failed to score a touchdown for only the second time all season.

At the end, the field was circled by dozens of police motorcycles, lights blinking. But there was no need to hold off the crowd, which filed out with "Philadelphia Freedom" blaring on the loudspeaker. This was merely a preliminary -- nothing less than a trip to the Super Bowl will do for a team that lost in the NFC title game a year ago.

Vick made a huge mistake on Atlanta's second possession.

Under pressure from Darwin Walker, Vick failed to spot an open receiver in the middle of the field and tried to hit Shawn Jefferson along the sideline. The ball was badly overthrown and landed right in the arms of Taylor, who sprinted into the end zone. Vick showed he's a better quarterback than a defender, making a weak attempt to corral Taylor at the goal line.

Maybe it was good thing Vick didn't try to make the tackle. The game took a huge toll on the Falcons' defense, which had two key losses in the secondary in the first half.

Free safety Keion Carpenter jammed his neck when making a helmet-on-helmet hit on Duce Staley, a blow so jarring that it knocked Staley back into the end zone. He scrambled out to avoid a safety while Carpenter was crumpled on the turf.

On the first play of the second quarter, cornerback Juran Bolden collapsed while trying to defend Thrash on a deep pass. Thrash made a 42-yard reception, while Bolden was carted off with a torn patella tendon in his right knee.

The Eagles had the Vet roaring when they built a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter, the product of Taylor's touchdown and two field goals by David Akers.

But Vick guided the Falcons on a crucial 13-play, 61-yard drive that turned the momentum. Feely hit a 34-yard field goal with 4:10 left in the half.

After forcing a punt, Atlanta got the ball back at its own 21 with 1:49 remaining. Vick ran a couple of times for 20 yards, then hit former Philadelphia receiver Brian Finneran for a 16-yard gain over the middle. On the final play of the half, Feely connected on a 52-yard field goal that brought the Falcons within a touchdown heading to the locker room.

McNabb and Vick realized the significance of this game. They are at the head of a new generation of quarterbacks, players who are as likely to break off a long run as they are to throw a deep pass.

The two have been friends since McNabb hosted Vick on a recruiting visit to Syracuse. Vick enjoyed their time together but chose Virginia Tech, not wanting to follow in McNabb's footsteps.

On Saturday night, they went their separate ways again: McNabb to the NFC final, Vick back home to Atlanta.

San Francisco plays at Tampa Bay in the other NFC Divisional Playoff Game, but the Eagles are assured of being at home next weekend. That will be the final pro football game at the Vet -- the Eagles are moving to nearby Lincoln Financial Field next season.

The Vet will be torn down after one more season of Phillies baseball, but it's trying to go out in style.

Buccaneers 31, 49ers 6

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers proved their offense can be just as dangerous as their league-leading defense.

Brad Johnson returned from a month-long layoff to pass for 196 yards and two touchdowns, and Tampa Bay shut down Jeff Garcia and Terrell Owens to beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-6.

The victory sends Tampa Bay to Philadelphia for the NFC championship game Jan. 19 against the Eagles, who ended the Bucs' season in the first round of the playoffs at Veterans Stadium the past two years.

The Bucs have lost all six of their road playoff games, including three years ago in the NFC Championship Game in St. Louis.

At home against the 49ers, the Bucs did just about everything right.

"As soon as we got up 7-0, I said: 'Hey, our offense is rolling today, fellas,' " All-Pro defensive tackle Warren Sapp said. "The only thing we've got to do is stick a couple of three-and-outs on them."

The defense took care of that, then the offense had its way.

Mike Alstott scored on a pair of 2-yard runs, and Johnson threw TD passes of 20 yards to Joe Jurevicius and 12 yards to Rickey Dudley after missing the last two regular-season games with a bruised back.

Alstott's first TD snapped the Bucs' 12-quarter touchdown drought in the playoffs, a streak that began in an 11-5 loss to St. Louis in the 1999 NFC championship game. The Eagles outscored Tampa Bay 52-12 the past two years and beat the Bucs 20-10 in Philadelphia when the teams met in October.

"We respect Philadelphia this year," coach Jon Gruden said. "What happened last year is not going to hurt us or help us in any way.

"We realize we've got our hands full, but we're going to get on the plane and we're going to go, and we'll play any place, whether it be in the Vet or the Walt Whitman Bridge. We're going to be there."

NFL Defensive Player of the Year Derrick Brooks led another stellar performance by the league's most dominant defense. The Bucs forced four turnovers, and the six-time Pro Bowl linebacker had an interception and recovered a fumble that Simeon Rice caused with one of the team's four sacks.

After Johnson led three long scoring drives in the first half, Brooks intercepted Garcia at the 49ers 26 to set up Alstott's second TD for a 28-6 halftime lead.

Johnson completed 15 of 31 passes with one interception, and Keyshawn Johnson had five receptions for 85 yards.

The Bucs also rushed for 121 yards, most of them in the second half when the 49ers struggled to stop Alstott and Michael Pittman. Alstott finished with 60 yards on 17 carries, and Pittman ran for 41 yards, also on 17 carries.

The 49ers staged the second-biggest comeback in playoff history when they rallied from a 38-14 deficit to beat the New York Giants in the wild-card round. But there would be no rally against the Bucs, who allowed a league-low 196 points and became only the seventh team to hold opponents to fewer than 200 in a 16-game schedule.

Garcia completed 22 of 41 passes for 193 yards and was intercepted three times. All-Pro receiver Owens was held to four catches for 35 yards, a week after having nine for 177 yards and two TDs against New York. Tai Streets added five catches for 62 yards.

"We just couldn't get anything to go right," Garcia said. "They are a great defense. ... We got down big at halftime, and then trying to struggle back, we completely got out of any sort of rhythm."

Jeff Chandler kicked field goals of 24 and 40 yards for San Francisco, which finished with only 228 yards total offense, including 62 on the ground. The 49ers (11-7) averaged nearly 23 points a game during the regular season, but the Bucs kept them out of the end zone both times they drove inside the Tampa Bay 10.

"They beat us in every aspect of the game. They came out with a do-or-die attitude and made the plays we didn't," 49ers rookie cornerback Mike Rumph said.

The Bucs (13-4) set a franchise high for victories, shared the NFL's best record and had the league's stingiest defense during the regular season. Still, they know their progress under Gruden ultimately will be determined by whether he takes Tampa Bay to its first Super Bowl.

The team's inability to score a touchdown in three consecutive postseason games cost former coach Tony Dungy his job. A wild, 36-day search for a successor wound up with the hiring of Gruden, who led Oakland to the 2001 AFC championship game before deciding he wanted out of his contract with Raiders owner Al Davis.

It cost the Bucs four high draft picks and $8 million merely for the right to talk to Gruden, who welcomed the challenge of building an offense to complement a championship-caliber defense.

"We are as experienced as a team as we ever have been, and when we get challenges like this, we seem to respond," Bucs safety John Lynch said. "This certainly is a tough challenge. But if we want to get to the Super Bowl, that's the road we've got to go through."

---------------------------------

Raiders 30, Jets 10

The playoffs have been unkind to the Oakland Raiders for almost two decades. So they took out 19 years of frustration on the New York Jets.

League MVP Rich Gannon and the Raiders showed why this season might be different from all the others since 1983 with a 30-10 playoff rout. They knew the surest road to the AFC Championship Game was to stay at home and avoid tuck rules and snowy night games in New England.

Now they get Tennessee, whom they beat 52-25 at home in September, back at the Oakland Coliseum for a shot at the Super Bowl. The Raiders have not been to the big game since winning it against Washington in 1984.

"These chances are very rare," veteran All-Pro safety Rod Woodson said. "I think we are a mature team that understands what we have here."

What they have is the opportunity to re-establish their "Commitment to Excellence."

That chance has been there before -- two years ago, when they lost at home to Baltimore for the conference title, and last season, when the controversial tuck rule did them in at New England.

"We've been this far before," said Jerry Porter, who outperformed his more illustrious teammates at wide receiver, Jerry Rice and Tim Brown. "It's time to go farther."

Porter caught a 29-yard touchdown pass and set up Rice's 9-yard score with a 50-yard reception as the Raiders (12-5) made it a clean sweep for the home teams this weekend. Gannon began going downfield in the second half after a 10-10 tie, and it paid off.

"We didn't throw the ball deep a lot this year, so it was exciting we were able to do some of that," Brown said. "At halftime, the coaches said we were going to do what we do best, and that's to throw."

The Jets had the most efficient thrower in the league, Chad Pennington, but he had a miserable day. Pennington, in his first season as a starter, had a 104.2 rating. But against Oakland he was 21 of 47 for 183 yards and a 44.9 rating.

"There's a saying that as the quarterback goes, so does the team. I didn't go today," said Pennington, who suffered two interceptions -- as many as he had in the last 10 games combined -- and lost two fumbles. "I was struggling all day long. I don't know why. It's one of those things I have to learn from, and have a short-term memory."

The Raiders, winners of eight of their past nine games, got pickoffs from Tory James and Eric Barton in the second half. They also recovered the two fumbles by Pennington in earning their second trip to the AFC title game in three years. In the 2000 season, they lost at home to Baltimore 16-3 for the conference crown.

"We suffered a big letdown my rookie year in the AFC championship when Baltimore came in here," Porter said.

Their most painful loss came at the Patriots last January in the infamous tuck-rule game when an apparent late fumble by quarterback Tom Brady was later ruled an incomplete pass. New England, of course, went on to win the Super Bowl.

Now, the Raiders think it is their turn.

"These opportunities are few and far between," said Gannon, who finished 20 of 30 for 283 yards. "I am trying to seize the moment, seize the opportunity. Of course, three other teams are trying to do the same thing."

Rice's catch was his 21st postseason touchdown, tying an NFL record. The 40-year-old receiver also set a record for yards in the playoffs with 2,133 in an 18-year career.

"I'm just happy to be playing football with a team that is very hungry," Rice said.

Oakland's defense harassed the usually unflappable Pennington and sacked him four times, twice by Rod Coleman. The Raiders beat the Jets for the third time in four games at home in the last year.

After a strong first half, Pennington came undone, throwing high, forcing passes and looking rattled.

"He was trying to do too much," Coleman said. "We were coming, so he had to start forcing stuff."

It was the second successive year the Raiders ended the Jets' season here in a playoff game. These teams have had some of the most memorable and bitter meetings in NFL history, but this game was a lopsided Raiders celebration.

"I'm already over this one," Porter said. "Now, it's Tennessee."

The game was tied at 10 at halftime. But after James' leaping sideline interception at the Jets 45, Gannon went downfield. He hit Brown for 16 yards, then found Porter streaking down the left sideline against a zone defense. Porter caught the ball in stride for a 29-yard touchdown.

Oakland stopped the Jets on a fourth-and-3 when wide receiver Wayne Chrebet, who struggled all game, slipped on his pattern. Gannon then connected with Porter over the middle for 50 yards. It took three more plays for Gannon to hit Rice in the back of the end zone.

Richie Anderson dropped a handoff despite not being hit on the next series, with Pennington blamed for the fumble. But Damien Robinson intercepted Gannon's next pass.

The Raiders returned the favor when Barton made a sideline interception, setting up Sebastian Janikowski's 34-yard field goal. Janikowski added a 31-yarder for the final score.

New York (10-8), which scored at least 30 points in each of its last three games, got going early on Curtis Martin's 15-yard run and a 20-yard pass-interference penalty against Charles Woodson. John Hall's 38-yard field goal made it 3-0 about four minutes into the game.

A motion penalty on fourth-and-inches at the New York 7 cost the Raiders early, and they wound up with Janikowski's 29-yard field goal to tie it.

Then the ball got slippery. As he scrambled, Pennington had it knocked from his hands by Travian Smith, who recovered at the Jets 27. Two plays later, Charlie Garner bobbled a handoff, but guard Frank Middleton fell on it when Jets defensive end John Abraham failed to scoop up the loose ball.

It was Garner's first fumble in 387 touches, but it didn't hurt his team. Moments later, Zack Crockett, Oakland's short-yardage specialist, scored his 10th touchdown of the season, from the 1.

Although the Jets moved well on their next possession, they were done in by more mistakes -- a holding penalty on a long run and a dropped pass. Hall then missed wide right on a 49-yard field-goal attempt.

An impressive 81-yard, 7-minute drive on which Pennington was 8 of 9 for 51 yards, tied it with 22 seconds left in the half. He converted four third downs with passes before hitting wide-open Jerald Sowell in the flat for a 1-yard score.

Hey Cam, I don't know if your CO has gotten wind of GT yet, but when he does, do you think you'l have to do more push-ups for A. Visting GT in the first place, or B, not using the right "Board" as your subject line "Bored on Staff Duty"?

I guess the spelling doesn't matter as long as you know how to say "Saddam Sucks" in any Arab language, and if you should ever capture one of his body Doubles, let us know, now as far as soe good gaming news goes:

- We have the GB Player now available (What's that you say? The ARMY doens't have them? Too bad, Papa Gekko told you to do something else a a carreer instead, like become a barber ;) ) in the USA, and all is good.

- Sony is coming out with a Souped-up PS2, the PSX and yes that's the name, long story.

- Microsoft is still trying to take over the world, butyou a;lready knew that using your spy sats, right?

- Oh and E3 just ending with some sweet looking games, TMNT is due out in October I belive on all consoles, a new MK game is going to the GBA, and if that weren't enough, we're getting more ZELDA.

Now I'm sure you're either doing push-ups in the sand for Sarge or have counted all the hairs ony ur body, including those on your hed ( ;) at Gekko) so I gues this si old news, now pelase, put my tax dollars to use and kill some terrorists, if you catch a guy wth a beard talking about Bombs and Planes and the man happens to ahvea thick afgahn accent, shoot him too if ya know what I mean ;) he's no logner just a terroist he's public enemy #1 now that Saddam is gone.

Oh and Cam, just out of curiousity, if you could have snuck the laptop in with you, or a deck of the "Evil Dictator Playing Cards", you know, the ones Bush keeps in the oval office, whcih would you have taken?

I'm guessing the card deck but with you I never know.

Oh and Gekko, you did send Cammie his yearly supply of Shampoo, right? Now we just need to send hima supply of fresh water, don't raise my taxes though, I'm already paying for Cam to sit around and get in troub;e, but he'll be paying the army in a formof currency kown as PUsh-Ups.

Now Gekko, is Cam still in Germany or is he in Iraq like he was "supposed" to be?

If he's in Iraq, tell him to knock over a few statues.

As for a Green Monkey suit Cam, are you sure you dind't mean "Green Pajamas"? I man it is 0100 after all and you sound tired, h*** you didn't even get mad at the "Fufu" remark, but if 9ndeed you are in a MOneky suit, can you do your best "Elivs Impersonation"?

All right I've ganged up on Camenough for one day, he's serving the country so I guess he needs some downtime, as I siad if you knwo someone who can stomach the Kanji, try the Japanese sites... or ask Gekko what the Marines do when they want to get gaming news ;) .

Very, very, very late.

But to answer the question, yes, he's in Iraq. Not due back until May. He's with V Corps, 1st Armored Division.
