so...i went skiing today for the first time ever...and well...i think i spent more time on my ass then i did on the skies :D

pretty funny, but i learn fast and got the hang of it soon after starting....

after i came back home...which was like 10 min ago...i can't feel my legs!!! THE PAIN!!!!! :)

anyhoo...my question to you guys is, how many of you ski and/or snowboard?

how long did it take you guys to learn not to spend alot of time on your ass?

and umm...for those of you who do both, whats easier?

Heh, my Phys Ed class went skiing on friday. My damn skis kept falling off! I had the little snap thing on really tight, too, but I guess that shows how cheap my school can be. I fell like 4 times, once going down a hill. This other time, I was going down a small hill and one of my skis fell off and went down the hill (the hill wasnt that big though)...but anyway, this is was only like my 4th time skiing in my whole life, and after this semester is over, I doubt I'll go skiing ever again...

I LOVE to ski. I have been skiing since I was 3 years old, its one thing I do really well, probably better than anyone here. I have never snowboarded, mainly because I only get to ski once a year, and I dont want to waste the trip trying to learn how to snowboard when I can allready ski so well and have fun doing it. I love everything about sking, from the chairlifts, to the 20 degree wind rushing in your face...its lovley...I got my own skis last year...ive only got to use them once...

Anywho, Im going sking again march 2nd this time up to michigan...should be fun as always...I wish I could go to Colorado again, havent been in like 4 years, its so much better in the Rockies...

I've been boarding for 7 years. I'm pretty good. I max out on tricks above 540's and stuff at that level. I didn't get a pass this year though. My sister's in college and my board got busted so i'd have to buy a new one and the money just isn't there. Next season i'll be up the hill again. I live in the okanagan valley, just north of washington. I have silver star, big white, and a cuople other pretty big hills right close.

I snowboarded for a few years gone some a hundred times but my RIDE board is now kinda flat, not curved anymore and besides it was heavier than boards like Burton at the time, so i got tired of it....didn't help having baseless horseshole bindings that i always had to readjust after some use.

maybe if i have the money and time, I will get a good Burton Board and go riding again sometime...:D

LOL I went skiing for the first time about a year ago on a hill that most skiers would laugh at. I still ended up ROLLING down the hill twice losing both ski polls and both skis on the way down. My friend who went down before me got to turn around and see the whole thing.

here's how I rembember the conversation

him: Are you ok...............ARE YOU OK........ARE YOU OK!!!!! ARE YOU OK!!!!

me: ugggggggg, yeah, I think so, I lost my glasses though.......

him: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST ****ING THING I'VE EVER SEEEN!

Chances are you rented skis and boots. Those boots they give you suck ass, and I know, having used them for many years til last year...if you get your own boot its so much better...much more comfortable, and dont make your feet feel like **** when you take them out. They aint all worn and they still have padding in them...

we rented all the equipment...and it was all new...i gues they haven't been open for a while because of the lack of snow these last few years...so they ordered new stuff...the boots were nice and comfortable, very soft on the inside...the skies looked quite new also...but it's not my feet that are hurting, its my shoulders

meh...too many hills...

It's normal to be VERY sore the first time skiing/boarding. Even the first time of the season for vets can get be painful. Not because of crashing really but mostly because you're straining muscles in your body that don't get used as much even in sports like basketball and hockey. I tried skiing again last season and I didn't like it. It felt way to flimsy compared to boarding. But if you have the chance to go up the hill do it. Great physicall exercise and fun.

Yes..i did about 4 years worth of skiiing before I tried boarding. It just felt so wierd being able to move your legs freely. I didn't like it. Boarding is way for fun in my opinion.

first time boarding, or first time skiing?

Depends on who you are. Some people find skiing easier while some find boarding easier. I was one of those lucky people who just picked boarding up. Carved on the first day and from there everything just went. I find skiing just a lot more uncomfortable and boring. I say give boarding a try. You will most likely be on your ass the whole day but if you stick with it you will be glad in the end.

I'd love to snowboad. I've never skeed or boarded, but it looks so much fun. Like Bouncer, I don't like the sound of skiing. With those stupid sticks and stuff... having to hold your legs together...

Snowboarding sounds so much cooler! Making cool jumps and stuff (I guess that's not for beginners though)!

I love 1080°! :D

Problem is, we don't have any mountains in Holland. So I'd have to go on vacation in Aurstria or Switzerland or something, and that's expensive.

We have some indoor thingies though... I'll try that once. :)

Some people say first time boarding is easier but it's just that snow boarding can have a steeper learning curve, then skiing.
