Yes, well this isnt big news really, there wasnt much doubt of its release on cube, but now you can rest asure:
Montreal, Canada - January 7, 2003 - Ubi Soft Entertainment, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced today that it will release Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system as well as for Nintendo's GameCube and Game Boy Advance by spring 2003. Impatient fans will be treated to a PC-version of the blockbuster game earlier this year.
Since its initial release for the Xbox video game system in November 2002, Splinter Cell has gone on to sell 1 million units in North America alone and 600,000 units in Europe. It boasts an average rating of 94.4 (out of a possible 100), based on a sample of 54 reviews, and was most recently awarded GameSpy's Xbox Game of the Year 2002 title.
Splinter Cell on the Xbox has already been one of the most talked about games in the industry during this holiday season and the game is now anticipated to be very popular on the other platforms this spring. By expanding the game's release, Ubi Soft confirms its commitment to offer outstanding moments of entertainment to all players as well as its long-term ambition for the Splinter Cell brand.
"With its all-around stupendous reviews and now its record sales, Splinter Cell is blazing a trail the likes of which the industry has rarely seen. We are eager to take the run-away success of this game to an even wider audience," said Yves Guillemot, President and CEO of Ubi Soft Entertainment.
I would show the additional screens that came with the story, but they are PS2 version.
I knew it!
Well, too bad, I already bought the Xbox version anyways. :D

this illustrates the main reason I got a cube this xmas, it seems there are SO few quality exclusive games for xbox, doesn't it? And Halo is really still it... anyway, this is good news for everyone, and being that I have a ps2 and GCN, generally are ports to the GCN better than the port version on ps2? I'd like to eventually get a third party game on gamecube!

Sweet news.
And is it just me, or was Bad Religion's post very confusing?

You guys didnt understand that? He said: that this is the reason why he got a Cube for Xmas, and that he thinks there no good quality Xbox titles. And Halo is still Xbox's best game. And since he has both a ps2 and a gcn, he will get the GCN SC because GCN ports are generally better. He also says he'd like a good 3rd party title.

And this game isn't even an exclusive for Xbox... Yet he seems to think it is... Even though they anounced ports.. lol.
This isn't old news, it's super old news.

Joeiss, you really missed it... i think maybe you are still smarting over our last exchange... which i would like to apologize for, since i overreacted.. anyway, i was trying to say this post by GK from TODAY, shows exactly why I personally chose to get a GCN over an XBOX... arguably the best game for it is getting ported over to other consoles, along with others like Ghost Recon etc... and I was saying how this was good news for everyone that plays games, not everyone here on the board. I actually thought is was announced a long time ago (Dec or so), but I guess i feel it's rude to just post saying "hey this is old news".. why bother posting, you know?
Finally, I was also asking since I just got my GCN and have only MP, SSBM, and SMS, I don't know what
generally happens when a game is ported to GCN, such as a game like timesplitters 2... as an example, do they take advantage of the processing power with enhanced graphics? I think that about sums up what I was trying to say, sorry to be confusing

Oh, I understand now.
And we had an exchange before?

I'm not much of a "stealthy" game player. (ie: MGS) I prefer just *hit loads of action (ie: Metroid Prime, TS2). So I might just rent it if that. But at least its an actual GOOD 3rd party game that is coming to the 'cube (besides all the Sega and Capcom games).

Not only will Splinter Cell be coming to GCN and PS2 months later than the Xbox version- the other two versions of Splinter Cell will be downgraded (most likely the game will be optimized for PS2 and then piss-ported over to GCN). Besides that, the Xbox version will receive downloadable content via Xbox Live.:)

But you do know that the GC and PS2 versions will have extra levels not found on the Xbox disk, don't you? You also have to remember that not everyone with an Xbox has BB (and so can't download the extra levels), but I'm sure the majority in America do :D.

The extra Splinter Cell levels (on Xbox) will also be available on a future OXM disc.

Oh that's cool. I guess they got all the bases covered :D.
I'm going to need to get hold of that disk though, I don't have BB. Add that to the fact I live in England with an NTSC Xbox...
*yawn*

Anyone seen the latest PS2 screens of the game? Looks alot better than the previous ones, Xbox comparable, even...
The only missing items would be the blurring of some textures, and lack of enemy shadows (which undoubtedly will be fixed for the GCN version), but so far so good...

Hmm I'll go and look for those new shots, sounds interesting.
I'm not excited at all about this game. So I couldn't care less.
Well, look at this:
January 17, 2003 - Publisher Ubi Soft told IGNcube today that the GameCube version of Splinter Cell will be delayed until May of this year. The company said that the title is running behind the PlayStation 2 port, which is still on schedule to ship in March.
Splinter Cell, a third-person, stealth-centric action game, follows special operative Sam Fisher through nine missions of high-tech enemy infiltration and combat. The game was heralded as one of the best titles of 2002 by critics, and went on to sell more than one million units for Xbox through the holiday season.
Ubi Soft said the GameCube incarnation is more or less a port of the Xbox original, and that first screenshots of it in motion would be made available next week.

It's been delayed and they also said the port is about the same as the original. It will be interesting to see some screenshots. Hopefully Ubi Soft won't compact the screenshots again like they did for the first batch of PS2 screens though.
