This will be many different topics with a different question each time, building up to overall GOTY over any system. Dont feel sad something you would have included wasnt an option, just choose the best/worst/surprising or whatever the case may be.

Squaresoft-Enix merger... that took me way by surprise. That Rare going to Microsoft thing was so expected with all those rumors and IGN ranting non stop about Rare leaving the cube. The Squaresoft returning to Gamecube was expected too.. but the Square-Enix Merger was out of the blue for me...

Oh wait.... I voted Square Ninty, but the 3rd one was a bigger 'surprise'. But not a better. :p

I say the Square-Enix merger.

Microsoft buying Rare was nice, but as BlueFire said almost everyone knew it was going to happen. At least the people who know what they were talking about.

the Rare buyout wasn't a surprise when it actually officially happened, but when I first heard about it I was quite surprised...

the other two don't interest me much so I voted for it

I'd say the Square-Enix merger. It just popped out of nowhere. Who would've thought that the 2 biggest rpg developers would combine?

We basically already had a good idea that Rare would've went 3rd party or MS exclusive. There were so many rumours of it.

And, the Square-Nintendo thing was okay, I kinda knew it would evetually happen though.

Maybe it's better for people who only own Nintendo consoles (wow, first SquareSoft game since...CT in 1995??!), but for regular RPGers like myself, the merger is WAY better. It will have two of the BEST developers working on the same games. I doubt FF:CC will be as good as FFXII, Chrono Break, or DQ8, or even Star Ocean 3. In fact, FF:CC is developed by Game Designers (a small production team funded by Square) and not Square themselves.

i dont why everyone thinks square developin for nintendo is big. they are barely making anything for it. one is a lame kiddy game (chrystal chronicles....could be good tho who knows) and i thiink that the tactics type one looks lame :(

I voted for the Rare thing even though it was kind of expected. That kind of shocked me when they officially announced they were going to M$. The Square-Enix thing would be second place, but very close to being first. Whoulda known that ENIX was the one that bought Square. I thought at first the Square bought out Enix.

how do you consider FF:CC to be kiddy? oh wait, theres no stealing cars or hookers or foul language or murdering people, yeah must be kiddy.

i dont care about tactics though, the one on PSone sucked IMO.

heh, that almost sounds exactly like what I've heard from different people about "kiddy" games. They are all PS2 people who think a game without what you just said is "kiddy". meh, at least I own great games even if they are "supposedly kiddy"

I say the square developing for Nintendo again. That was big news to me

I tend to agree that the loss of Rare (or rather gain for Microsoft ;)) was very shocking. I didn't expect Microsoft to go that far at all. And Nintendo to sell them, either. I felt very bad when Rare transferred over, but now, I'm kind of happy. I just thought it was kind of shocking at the time, you know?

Ok, now, I know about the Square-Enix merger, how it was "big", but it wasn't as talked about as Microsoft-Rare. At all. Go back to those topics and you'll find that Microsoft-Rare had even bigger threads with more replies, and in some cases, multiple threads. It was big, and there's no doubt about it.

As for Square developing for Nintendo again, it was a great feeling, but I believe the loss is always felt more. That's the way humans work. I know, it sucks, doesn't it?
