More Nintendo comedy as latest rumours are smashed by PR
12:40 It's the gossip that just keeps on giving. Boasting more conspiracy theories than the state of Texas, Nintendo's so-called "Megaton" announcement has received an enormous amount of column inches in recent weeks as we all try to ascertain just what on Earth is going on.
Nintendo buying Capcom? Sega? Bundling GC with Wavebird? Capcom becoming Nintendo's "adult" brand? Revealing GBA 2? It's keeping us all entertained at the very least. The latest rumour to reach our ears is that the Megaton announcement - whatever it may be - is due to be revealed in a press conference tomorrow in Japan ahead of this weekend's Jump festival. The announced is further rumoured to be made in conjunction with an article in Famitsu magazine.
Shelly Friend, head of PR for Nintendo Europe, today branded these latest claims "absolute rubbish," seeming most amused by the continued speculation on the matter.
One thing that sources do seem far more confident about is that there will be an announcement in the New Year regarding a backlit GBA, but as for tomorrow, the sun will rise and set, for sure, but don't hold your breath for the Megaton...
Well yet again Megton is put down till the next fanboy comes up with some thing!!
So...? That doesn't mean something big isn't going to happen... necessarily....
She branded THOSE claims! That doesn't mean something else might come. She never did say there WASN'T a megaton, hm?

I never got excited with this megaton ****.. It just got annoying and on and on ..

this megaton crap was annoying from day 1. i never expected anything to come from it, so i'm not disapointed.
sure, it would be great if there actually was some kind of "megaton" annoucement. but think about it, wut could they possibly announce that would be so amazing? i dont care if nintendo buys capcom, namco, square/enix, konami, wutever, i still wouldnt be satisfyed.

I think the Zelda Pre-Order discs are somewhat megaton in themselves...at least to me...:)

I think you need to STFU. The Megaton is not a rumour, and it probably could have happened already anyways. I don't accept this crap about the PR in Europe. Nobody knows what the Megaton is, and nobody ever will. Sheesh, she probably didn't even know what the hell those people who apparently queried her on. Nobody can confirm the Megaton; we, the fans, have branded a big announcement with this name. Nobody can tell you what it is or it isn't. And when something big comes we'll know it.
In the meantime, you can't control anything. Besides, you're way too late anyway. Go to other boards to see what crap they're coming up with. Changing one person, me in this case, does nothing. These rumours will drown you out, and you'll have to bear it. I can't help you.
When the end of the year comes, I'll look back fondly on all the announcements Nintendo has made. The only last chance is the V-Jump convention, and after that, consider these rumours dead. At that point in time, that is when we look back and call all of this crap. Nintendo made huge announcements this year anyways, like Jason1 said, Capcom Five was huge, and something people totally look over: The Gameboy Player.
Until then keep quiet. It's going to end no matter what.

Well, thats just Nintendo of Europe. Nintendo of Japan probably doesn't always communicate with the other branches outside of Japan. So who knows what NoJ is thinking of if something IS going to happen. But I think the big announcements were the Capcom 5 and the Gameboy Player.

Why would nintendo say there definatly IS NO MEGATON announcement? It's an assload of free publicity. They're not stupid they just addresed some of the rumors.
"good rumors" and things of that nature are quite good for a company.
nintendo knows it. Its at some point they All need to be addressed. because at some point they become bad publicity. when a rumor goes around a couple times. people get excited.
when a rumor goes around and around and around too much, never comes true, is when it starts to become bad, people get dissapointed, it reflects bad on the company.
Trick is to let the rumor dangle around, if it becomes big enough, thats the point to end it.

Good publicity. And they never lagged on with them or really hinted that they were true, so it couldnt be bad publicity for them. Anyway, backlit GBA eh? And I was going to get one for christmas.

That's what I was thinking... When the GBA/NGC thing was announced I was like "I wonder if this is the megaton... not very megaton if ya ask me"... and yet the rumors went on and on so I was like "Meh"... yep... true story!
