Translated French Article

"The Japanese site 1984.jp publishes a long interview of Hideo Kojima in connection with the marketing of MGS II Substance in the archipelago. Questions inevitably slipped towards the next MGS 3. Without bringing significant elements, this one concedes however that the first trailer will be revealed in E3 2003. Lastly, the site promises a large surprise on Xbox which will be revealed on next 17 December. An address to be kept under the elbow..."

"Le site japonais 1984.jp publie une longue interview de Hideo Kojima à propos de la commercialisation de MGS II Substance dans l'archipel. L'entretien a inévitablement glissé vers le prochain MGS 3. Sans apporter d'éléments significatifs, celui-ci concède toutefois que le premier trailer sera dévoilé à l'E3 2003. Enfin, le site promet une grosse surprise sur Xbox qui sera dévoilée le 17 décembre prochain. Une adresse à garder sous le coude..."

I would speculate that a real surprise from Konami for Japanese would be an XBox DDR version with XBox Live downloadable content and song burning capabilities... Many people are dreaming of this. Maybe that would sell it over there...

Any thoughts?

I bet this will just be something that M$ is paying Konami millions to just bring it to their console only. They are probably trying to get MGS 3 Exclusive to XBox. Thats why I hate M$/XBox. M$ has to PAY to have games only on their system.:shakehead

making MGS3 for XBox exclusively would be a horrid mistake...I mean it wouldn't matter to me because I own an XBox as well as a PS2, but the game would sell SOOOOOO many times better on Playstation 2...much larger userbase, and the PS2 fanbase actually appreciate MGS (look at the sales of MGS2:S on Xbox to see what I mean)

I actually agree with Stu on this. In terms of the game being appreciated, and units sold, the PS2 would be the only viable choice.

If there is a reason that this game MIGHT be on Xbox, then it would either be because the game isn't capable on PS2 (which I don't think is the case, because developers are actually starting to realise the true power of the PS2, though not as much as the Xbox's (or GC), which is a total guess mind you), in other words, greater things can be achieved quicker, or one of the other obvious ones, MS paying for rights on this installment.

And you want to tell me Sony and Nintendo don't pay to have games only on their systems?

Well...................I know it would be wise to put Mgs3 on Ps2........but if they want to make exclusive to xbox for a few months then why not?? But total exclusiveness might be a mistake on their part.

Ehm, did I even mention ANYTHING about MG3 Xbox? All it said was that he answered questions about MGS3 for the adverts of Substance, nothing else. The point of the post was to show off the big secret soon... but you guys think it's Xbox-exclusive MGS3? Lol....

Jonbo said he thinks it's probably MGS3 on Xbox exclusively, to which I replied 'WOULD BE a horrid mistake'

No stu, this topic is retarded. I found it dreadfully shocking nobody even mentioned anything about the big announcement after the first two posts. Even the thread title has nothing to do with MGS at all. You people.

You know Dyne...if the voices tell you you're not crazy, it really means you are

I doubt it will be too big. Konami does not even publish games for xbox in Japan. I dobt they would go and do something amazing excluding the market they are currently #1 in.

Argh!

Anyways shouldn't it have been revealed by now???

Sad really, how much money M$ spends on making their meh console popular... It would have been cheaper to buy Sony! (well not quite...)

Well, I do know that Nintendo didn't pay Capcom to put RE on their console...infact, I don't know any developer Nintendo flat-out PAID to keep exclusive....Factor 5, Hal Labs, Silicon Knights, and Retro Studios have been 2nd party developers inside NCL for years, and most of the exclusive titles stem from them, NCL themselves, or are third-party titles that just didn't get ported to other systems (think Sega).

As for PS2, there are a couple, but even then, the Squaresoft/Enix payoff didn't work, as they are developing titles for GCN in 2003...MS by far though, has outright paid money for every exclusive they have now minus in-house ones. Hell, even Halo was bought last-minute right before it's completion on the Macintosh in late 2000.

I thought Konami stopped their production of Japanese Xbox games because it was un-profitable.

The fact is, Retro and SK were flat bought out by Nintendo. They're first party, but the fact that they're in different countries renders them second parties. It's the same as Rare under Microsoft. The dev house is elsewhere. There's a distinguishable difference between first party and second party. Factor 5 is not Second party, but the real reason they stay is because of Nintendo's support. Factor 5's a really great dev team, but they probably give Nintendo attention first only because of the way they treat them. That's probably also why Capcom's RE series went exclusive. There was probably no money involved, just good business relations.
