News flash! ENIX and Square announce a merger!

November 26, 2002

- A new company name is ENIX, Square!

ENIX and Square announce a merger! A new company name is "SUKUUEA ENIX"!!

Square and ENIX announced that it resolved that both companies merged by each board of directors held on November 26 today. The trade name of a new company plans "ENIX, Square, Inc.,." It is a thing that April 1, 2003 becomes a merger date. It is the most important subject of a company how growth is continued, while according to the release both companies set at the serious leather term of the future entertainment industry which makes a background rapid innovation of "computer technology or communication environment and spread about the purpose of this merger and an enterprise opportunity, a deployment domain, and a market are increased and diversified increasingly. It is commented that a reply of ENIX to this subject and Square is this merger."

In addition, the schedule to which a press conference is held in the city of Tokyo from 3:30 p.m. about the details of a merger today. This pattern will be carried later on.

Yahoo Japan:

ENIX and Square -- it merges in a prospect on April 1, next year

[Tokyo 26-day Reuters] It was announced that ENIX <9684.T> and Square <9620.T> merge around April 1, 2003. The name of a new company is "ENIX, Square," and makes ENIX a surviving company.
0.81 stocks of ENIX stocks are assigned to one stock of Square stocks with a merger.
For ordinary profit to change 80 billion yen and a current income is likely for the term consolidated sales ended March, 2005 of a new company to change to 15 billion yen 27 billion yen. (Reuters)
[Renewal of 12:22 on November 26]

Nikkei:

It will be merger" in ENIX and Square "next year 4 month.

ENIX and Square, a major game company, announced on the 26th that they merge on April 1, next year. A merger of major game makers is the first. Competition is intensifying by increase of development expense, or an overseas maker's rise, and the game industry strengthens a profit base while heightening development power by merger.

A new company name is "ENIX, Square," and a surviving company is ENIX. 0.81 stocks of ENIX stocks are assigned to one stock of Square stock. A merger new company will expect the consolidated sales of 80 billion yen, and net earnings of 15 billion yen at the term ended March, 2005.

Square is holding "Final Fantasy" and ENIX is holding the "Dragon Quest" series and popular software. Failure of a movie enterprise is echoed and Square will fall to the consolidated net loss for two consecutive terms by the first half. Management -- the Sony group takes over capital increase -- was getting worse. On the other hand, since achievements were large and ENIX was changed by the existence of hot-selling product "DORAKUE" sale, strengthening of a profit base was years of subject. (12:25)

First off, this is in general board.

Second, April 1, 2003 hmm, let's see, how about this is all a big fat April Fools joke!

They can't trick me.

But, if it were true, that would be most definately cool. :D

A big fat april fools joke in advance?

They're supposed to hold a press conference thing in about... 3 minutes according to my clock :p

And the gamecube board isn't working... I was gonna post it, but I didn't wanna post it here :p

I bet people are going to think that, after this merger, Nintendo's big announcement is them aquiring the next enix/square company as a second party ;)

GameMaster

That'd be a let down.

Nintendo's "Megaton" announcment should reflect something they've done on their own.

Aha! Nintendo definitely has something up their sleeves.

I can smell it.

No wait... damn you DH, you read my mind. :p

It wasn't really supposed to be a compliment... maybe you knew that and that's why you put the wink there, but I'm just clearing that up ;)

Here's something I find a bit funny:

Back in the old days before Square announced games for NGC and all that jazz, Nintendo fans were like "WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE, SQUARE OR ENIX!? ENIX OR SQUARE WHICH IS BETTER!? OMG ENIX OR SQUARE I CAN'T CHOOSE!" and now they're one company :p

Maybe Sony (who already owns like... well now it's about 8% or something of this new company) will buy them out completely and steal the flame from Nintendo's "Mega-ton announcement"... or maybe Nintendo buying the new company is their mega-ton announcement... or maybe the company won't get bought and Nintendo's mega-ton announcement is something different? Who knoooows O.o oooOoOooO *spooky mysterious music plays*

Couldn't help yourself could you? :hmm:

As soon as I was reading DH's post, I knew he was gonna mention something about what he just said

Well now that you mentioned it, it's a possiblilty. It's also possible for Xbox or Ps2 attaining the company as 2nd party. Could be interesting......

How much does EA own? If they own enough of Square I doubt they will sell. Sony's best bet is to pay for thier top sellers to be exclusive. (kinda like how they did with Rockstar)

As far as I know, EA doesnt onw anything in Square. EA publishes Square's games in the US, and Square publishes their games in Japan.

Anyway...I kinda hope DQ doesnt end up like FF games...DQ is all about battling, having fun and not caring about a huge storyline. While FF on the other hand, is all about character development, story, etc.

The good thing about this merger is that maybe the new games will have the best attributes from both DQ and FF.

Yeah, I think they can help out the FF series a lot if Enix and Square do projects together like this.

This caught me by surprise yesterday. It was so cool.

I thought the FF series is going online... and they are just making sequals to old FF games. Enix is good with MMORPGs or somthing?

Dragon Warrior is the same as Dragon Quest, right? It's just called Dragon Quest in Japan, yeah? :o DW1 was the only one I've played, maybe the newer ones are better :p

When did they say they would make offline ones? I mean, on the series line?

There is:
FF:CC
FFX-2
FF7-2

But I'm talkin bout FF12, 13, 14 etc. I think I remember them saying they are making the whole series after FFX MMORPGs.

Thats not true. For one, FF7-2 hasnt even been officially announced, its just a rumour..

Square did say that FF12 + would be online, but not in the way of MMORPGs. Ff12 will be online, but in a different way. It wont be like FF11, like say, FF12 might have online strategy guides, online tips, downloadable weapons, armor, skills, abilities, sidequests etc taht can be used for 1 player offline. However, the game's minigame could be online. But thats about as far as it would go. FF12 will probably be out in 2003 in Japan, and Square just released an expansion for FF11, so why would they keep making new MMORPGs when they can just expand from Ff11? Just like EverQuest. They wont need to make a new MMORPG until the next generation of consoles or 3 years from now.

IGN had an article a long time ago (a bit after when FFX was revealed I think) and some Square guy said that games that come after FF11 will be different type of online. So my guess is that they will have downloadable extras, etc. Although there has been no official details.

Hm this from C-E:

For the investment ratio, Yasuhiro Fukushima will hold 30% of Square Enix, Miyamoto will hold 18% and Sony Computer Entertainment will hold 8%.
Is that Shigeru Miyamoto??? If that's true, that's good news!!

Dyne
11-28-2002, 10:53 AM

Oh god how I love Shiggy sometimes.... outbuying Sony.... Well done Shiggy! :D

Isn't there more than one Miyamoto over in Japan? :hmm:

Dyne
11-28-2002, 12:36 PM
Meh... I highly doubt that some no-fame Miyamoto would buy 18% in this company. Think about it. 18%!

In fact, now that I think about it, Square must have planned this out... because now Sony will back off.... like they have! Excellent. And they'll more than likely focus on the cube more, seeing as they would never choose XBox as a medium.

Kaching!

But then who the hell is Fukushima again? *goes to search*

GameKinG

It is indeed not Nintendo's Shiggy they are talking about. Different guy.

Dyne
11-28-2002, 12:40 PM
Well, I found out that Fukushima is the new chairman of the company. Go fig. :p

And hey, guess what.

Originally articled by Planet PS2
Square will be desolving and merging into Enix, with Enix trading 0.81 stock to each Square stock. Enix CEO Fukushima and associates will invest approximately 30% to the new company's capital, with Square's top shareholder Masashi Miyamoto leading behind at 18 % and Square's second top shareholder SCE at 8%.

Goddamn. Just.... Goddamn.

Well, I hope that still means PS2 gets less priority. :p

HOW TF could Misashi Miyamoto owning 18% of Sqaure-Enix have anything to do with the PS2 getting less priority?! dear god man, pull yourself together!

Dyne

Whoa whoa... don't get so excited, Stu. SCEA only owns 8% now. Much less than what they had before, man. All that was said is that it would be nice to have a little more support than what is announced for Gamecube. Surely they can do better than some GBA games and Crystal Chronicle.

wtf? Sony owns 8% of SquareEnix, nintendo owns 0%. how could you possibly think that Ps2 would get less priority and they would focus more on GCN? not only that, but most of the Square and Enix fan base is with Sony, so do you think they would just all of a sudden focus more on nintendo?

Dyne
11-28-2002, 03:33 PM
*sigh*

I meant to say maybe all the good games won't be exclusive to PS2, and maybe we'll see something else on the Gamecube. Not ALL PS2 OMG PS2 ALL TEH TIME maybe a more broadened horizon than what we've seen. I say that because Sony has less of a grasp on the new company, allowing less tension and more Multi-platform time. GBA games don't count, because they aren't console.

I guess it was only called a merge because Enix knew they'd get more publicity that way. Also, having the name "Square" almost always means quality, according to people. Square's rep could do wonders for Enix, so they kept that buying detail out.

no, no, no, Enix did not buy Square, they bought certain amount of stock in Square THUS MERGING THEM. you see, when you buy stock in a company, you own that much of the company. Enix now owns enough of square to be part of square. do you see wut i mean?

If you own 50 % of a company's stock you can take over...if you own over 75% you can merge....sooooooo I guess that's what Enix did ( I thinkthat's it, I hope I got that right)
