View Full Version : Is splinter cell better than MGS2?
They both have thier strong points that are better then the other.
for gameplay id say i enjoyed MGS2 much better.
(havnt played a lot of SC yet tho) and from what i seen, story in SC is prolly a bit better.
MGS2 got me more addicted from the start tho.

MGS2 was never that great anyway. The orginal Metal Gear Solid for Playstation was better and dont forget the old Metal Gear games for the NES, they were classics

For a more indepth Stealth game, I'd recommend SC.
For something with a bit more variety, MGS2

For gameplay, MGS2 just doesn't stand up to Splinter Cell. There are so many subtleties its amazing. So many ways to complete a mission without ever being obvious. The animations, graphics, sound and especially lighting (dear LORD) are without par.
This is by far one of the most egrossing games I've ever played.
Be forwarned, its much more of a sim than MGS2. You literally must stalk you enemies, hide in the shadows and be aware of every move, sound and decision you make or you are dead. I spend 1/4 of the time turning off lights and ditching bodies in closets and dark corners and I LOVE IT. This never gets boring for one reason: Its so well done it makes you BELIEVE its real while you play. Without that suspension of disbelief this game would be tedious at points, and it never is. While it does have a few slightly fantastic elements of gameplay, I think it is about as close to a covert ops sim as you can get.
One of the few criticisms of this game is that its trial and error. WRONG. If you think thats it, you are too impatient. Wait to see the whole picture. Use your maps, laser optic scope to see whats in the other room and lock picks to the best of your advantage. You have to act like a real secret agent to play this game correctly and avoid the pitfalls of trial and error. I spent about 10 minutes one time analyzing guard movements while skulking in the shadows to determine how I should best attack the situation. If you challenge this game that way, you will be fully rewarded.
Is it frustrating at times? Of course, but in the good way. The way that makes you swear at your TV and turn off the console only to boot it back up 15 minutes later.:D
So to answer your question, yes Splinter Cell is much better than MGS2.
