8.6
Still a good score, but not nearly as good as what IGN gave it.
The reviewers (Greg Kasavin, the same guy who reviewed Metroid Prime) said it had the best lighting in any game to date, but the game's only real problem is that it can get pretty frustrating at times.

This isn't the first time that Gamespot has hurt a game because of difficulty. IGN pointed out that it was very difficult, but it wasn't a flaw in design, rather the designers making you think outside the box. To each their own I guess. Personally I like a challenge.

I also like a challenge...adds a LOT more replay value, and you have a good sense of accomplishment when you finally beat the game.

i dont see how a games difficulty could take down a game's overall score, unless its insanely hard *cough* shinobi *cough* adding challenge to the game should be counted towards raising the score, not lowering it. but like i said, if its insanely hard, then its acceptable to lower the score

Well having played the game as far back as ECTS in the summer and having a reviews copy of the game for the last two weeks. I can safely say the game is not too hard at all it’s all just another case of the SNES generation who can’t play hard games (nothing against the SNES just the games at the time were far to ease). And yes I do feel the game deserves a 90% plus score it’s that damn good and even better news (to some of you) it should be coming out on other consoles next year some time! How good a port it will be! Just have to wait and see (the port is not being done by the same developer).

Hmm... I thought I heard somewhere that there would be ports. :)
This sounds like a cool game, and I notice that M$ is advertising it like crazy in EU.
Blast, why can't Nintendo release Metroid Prime now to compete with it!? :(

There will be ports on GC and PS2, but not for at least 6 months and by that time all the hype is gone and delayed release ports never sell as well as the original releases. Also, I really wouldn't want to see what this game looks like on the PS2.

no...it could never look like it does on XBox
it could still look nice, however...but ports never work on the PS2

The biggest thing that the PS2 could not replicate is the outstanding lighting effects. From what reviews are saying it has the best lighting in any game made yet. The PS2 just can't come close to duplicating the XBox's lighting effects. It just doesn't have the power.

No... I doubt the PS2 could pull of all of the lighting effects as in the Xbox version, although it should still look very nice for the PS2 and GC. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
