It's been 1 year since the 'Cube came out. What are your impressions so far? Excellent, Good, Average, Fair, Poor? I personally think it has been very good. But I think this next year will be excellent. WE have gotten many great games. Some that were great at that time (Eternal Darkness) and some that still are great. (Animal Crossing and Super Mario Sunshine). So...what are your thoughts?

GC has had a good line-up so far, I just hope they can keep the momentum they get from their big name franchises to go through to this next year of gaming. I mean, they obviously can't expect to let all their best stuff go out one year and not have some other stuff as equally good, so they must have more goodies in store.

My opinion is that most people (in this forum) will hate my opinion...
You guys already know what I thought of GCN's launch... But um, this year was better. AC and Mario Sunshine...
I think Ps2's first year (aside from all the ports GCN got) was superior, and Xbox's is about Equal.
I would have to rate it as "good" but it was nothing special.

I agree with TheGame, its been alright, not that great though.
The only game that I really loved was Resident Evil...SMS was good at first, but now after beating it, it wasn't really that good. And I havent played SFA but I heard it as majorly dissapointing.
I still have yet to play AC, RE0 and Metroid Prime.
The only games I'm really looking forward for next year is RE2, Zelda, and Skies Of Arcadia....oh, and I forgot to include PSO, which came out this year but I wont have it til next summer.
So overall, I wasn't that impressed. Although this may change as I am getting RE0, AC and MP for xmas.

Well GC's line up for this year was cool....it was better than last years. Let's just hope this trend continues for GC...as well as the other systems
Ignoring the other consoles, and ignoring the market, I have to say it's an excellent console. The only reason it's a point away is because the PS2 had a year start ahead. People don't give it the credit it deserves because everyone pisses their pants about the PS2. Gamecube is just as good, if not better, as the PS2, except PS2 has gotten the developers a year early. It's basically Gamecube a year behind with less powerful hardware. And, to add on, it may seem watered down because they're battling the Xbox for the 2nd spot.
Gamecube is underrated, that is my opinion. It's excellent, except for it's competition which gives it an automatic "apparent" opinion out of everyone. Consider if this console was released with the PS2--it would be doing fantastic right now. It truly is a good console.

That's your opinion, I know, but my opinion is that pretty much all of the major NGC games that have come out that I've played (Eternal Darnkess, Mario, Rogue Leader, Pikmin, Starfox Adventures, etc) have been dissapointing in some ways... And while everybody else was like "Oh these games are excellent!" I've been like "Meh they're ok" or "Yeah they're pretty good"...
So I'd say it's either good or maybe even Average... since, so far at least, major games have been few and far apart, and to me they have been a bit dissapointing... the RE remake is like the only NGC game I wanted to play that I wasn't dissapointed in... except for RE0 for the main game, which was a very good game but ended up not having enough extras (IMO)... and apparently it doesn't even look like it has multiple endings... but maybe I'm just missing something because hasn't like every RE game so far had multiple endings?
And of course third party support has still been kinda meh so far... Aside from RE of course :p But it looks like next year will fix that a bit I think...
But so far NGC just seems either to be good or average, and that's not comparing it to other systems... if I compared it to PS2, it'd probably be a definate average... :p
So in short: There have been times when I wish I never bought my cube and instead just bought more PS2 games... But then I just kept thinking ahead to ZELDA... That's the main reason I bought my NGC... and Zelda better not dissapoint me like some of the other major NGC games :p
(Oh and keep in mind this isn't counting Metroid because it's not out yet and so I havn't played it)

It's been...alright... Could be better.. a lot better :p At least competition wise
But I enjoy my cube.

I strongly disagree... In my opinion Gamecube is way over-rated.... well, at least here at GT :D
GCN's 2002 line-up was supposed to "own" Ps2 and Xbox... but in my opinion, to this date, it's the exact opposite. *shrugs*
My Expectations for GCN before it launched were soooooo high. I thought it would be the only system I couldn't live without. Then plop, Zelda is screwd up... then, plop once again, Aki not working on the WWE titles... then a HUGE plop, Rare is sold.
So GCN only has one way to win me over, new content.... Metriod hasn't won me, and we will see about Cel-da... but before this date there isn't much. I'm not the biggest fan of SSB:M, and Mario Sunshine was good, but far from great... Sonic is a great game, but I also had it on DC (til my bro took it)
So um, like I said, IMO it's just good, nothing spectacular or life changing though :p

I think the Gamecube has been pretty good after a year of launch. Not spectacular or anything, but that's how I felt a year after the Ps2 launch.
ED, SMS, Sega Soccer Slam, Timesplitters 2, SSB Melee would be my favourite games on it.
Where is Too Human!??!?!

Your a baised RE fanboy DH...Outside of the Graphics, there was nothing very good about the RE remake. The controls were that same old meh...the gameplay was the same...
Thats IMO...
And I would say the Gamecube so far has been pretty good...Cant call it excellent, but pretty good.

that's funny, cuz I didn't even care much about how good the graphics were... so according to you there was nothing very good about it at all ;)
I don't have a problem with the "same old meh" controls... and the gameplay is the same, yes, and I agree it's getting old... and I hope they add new things to it... but in RE0 at least they had switching between the two characters... and IMO, that was a really neato addition... and in RE4 I bet they will base some new gameplay things around Leon being infected with something... I think they need to give the characters some more moves or something though...
But the big reason I still like RE is the story... with the RE remake, I got all giddy seeing the areas I remember playing in the normal RE on PSX (which is the whole reason I decided to buy a PSX back in the day) with the all new graphics (so ok the RE remake's graphics were a plus, but not just because they were pretty) and areas and story additions...
then in RE0 you get to see stuff before RE1... it's all goodness! If you don't like the story and don't like the gameplay, there's nothing there... but if you're like me and you've been with the series since the beginning and you like the story (except for the fact that in the end of every game, the area you were in blows up) and don't have a problem with the gameplay (like me), you can still like it a lot... More than saaaay... Eternal Darkness? :p

I know... in RE0 the self destruct thing starts going off and I was just like "*sigh*"... And I don't even think they tell who set it off! It just goes off... seriously they need to stop blowing the places up... and they also need to have an ending where one of the main characters gets killed... It's always like this huge nightmare with lots of crazy creatures and you see cutscenes of people easily being taken out by the monsters, and yet these select few people can go through killing tons of them and survive... :shakehead

Gamecube's first year has been poor...or at least disappointing in my opinion.
Even the PS2 (which lots of people said had a crappy first year) gave us a handful of AAA titles (Gran Turismo 3, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, ICO) and soon after, Final Fantasy X...
Gamecube's only AAA title in my opinion would be Metroid Prime, which was just released (then again, I'll have to play it to be sure)...lots will say that Rogue Leader is AAA, as well as Pikmin, SSB:M, SMS, AC...but I've played all of those games, and never thought they were more than an 8.5/10 type of game. Good? Yes. Comparable to the PS2 titles I listed? No.
After Project Dolphin was released I figured I would definately buy the system when it came out, because it was supposed to gather PSX-like 3rd party support, and have fantastic games developed by Nintendo. Well so far, I'm glad I didn't buy the system. It would have been a waste of money, because I would have been spending 99% of my gaming time on my PS2.

Most people bought RE on GCN because of it's graphics, and they were obviously dissapointed. Graphics arent the reason to buy games.
To me, the RE series is fun. I love the story and the gameplay style.

That's for sure. And I quote,
"I am a huge fan of Video Games. Gamecube is going to be the best (game) system ever, no doubt. It will have the best graphics and the best developers in the world. Even rival company Square has shown a lot of interest in GCN(Gamecube). If you like to pay WAY less for WAY more, get a GCN. Ps2 is weak, and X-Box will be too. Don't trust hype, trust me, because I tell it how it is."

Everyone knows my views on Capcom. They should stick to fighting games only and 2d Megaman. Unless they make something with quality.
Maybe these new GC games could have some potential
And my views on RE are as follows:-
Poor controls
Unconvincing story/voice acting
Repetitive
Lack of variety with enemies
Gameplay feels "dated".
Just like Onimusha and DMC.

how do you figure DMC has poor controls? and how could the gameplay in DMC feel dated? theres only been one DMC released thus far, and no other game i've played comes close to its style of gameplay

LOL... you got that quote from that crazy ol site I made huh? :D
I had a lot of fun making that page... hell, it was my first ever. Too bad I can never edit it again (the site I used to edit it at has disappeared)
Yep, I was seriously that hyped up about GCN, that was late 2000 when I wrote that. (and listening to peeps at tendose and ND.net had a lot to do with my opinion)
I've grown a lot from that time...

Woops. My bad.
DMC had good controls. Onimusha's were ok , but for me everything else applies.

Ever hear of Breath Of Fire?. Of course not, most people only pay attention to Square's RPGs..
Squaresoft isn't the only one who can make good RPGs...and IMO, Breath Of Fire III was one of the best games of all time. (ranked #3 on my list).
