Got this from another forum
Source : EGM Magazine, November 2002 Issue:
Square may not release it due to the fact that they need a whole team to maintain the servers, offer technical support, prevent hacks, and stuff.
So, unless they team up with Sony completely to operate the game, or hire some unknown company to do all the dirtywork, don't expect FFXI to come out Spring 2003, or at all.
Let's hope this isn't true...even though I wasn't planning on buying it

I already heard about this, and quite frankly, I couldn't care less

I am planning on buying it, not right away though. Cuz it's damn expensive. Although, I dont think this would affect me THAT much, seeing as I'll have PSO. But...I still hope it comes out here...

so they would skip a game in the FF series in NorthAmerica? methinks not, some of the more average people might get confused if no FF game came out for a lot longer and when it did come out it was titled FF12. Square better not let that happen

In the US, didn't the series skip from 3 to 7?... or 4 to 7 or something...

i believe they skipped FF1,2, and 3, and released FF4 here as the first one so it was named FF1, and then FF5 was FF2, and FF6 was FF3....i'm probly wrong, it was something like that. but that wasnt due to a technical problem, Square didnt think FF would sell that good over here i guess....

Sorry if this offends anyone but...I am happy if this is true. This will be the only FF I won't buy. I certainly can't afford it and will be dying to play it while everyone's talking about it. So, we still have FFTA and FF:CC... I am happy either way. Also, it won't sell very good... $200 is way too much. And Square will have major difficulties handling the U.S servers.
So I think it's a good idea not releasing it.

No, this is the way it goes:
FF1 in Japan = FF1 in North America
FF2 in Japan = Unrelased in NA
FF3 in Japan = Unreleased in NA
FF4 in Japan = FF2 in NA on SNES/Titled FF4 in FF Chronicles
FF5 in Japan = Unreleased in NA on SNES/Title FF5 in FF Anthology
FF6 in Japan = FF3 in NA on SNES/Titled FF6 in FF Anthology
FF7 in Japan = FF7 in NA
FF8 in Japan = FF8 in NA
FF9 in Japan = FF9 in NA
FF10 in Japan = FF10 in NA
FF Mystic Quest was a US-only FF game.
I think that they "skipped 4-6" here in NA cuz me thinks they already had plans to re-release the older FFs.
The chances are that if FF11 doesnt make it here, they will rename FF12 to FF11 for NA, or they might keep it was the same and just release it for PC maybe? That would be okay, I guess.
Chances are that "casual gamers" havent heard much about FF11 anyways.

yeah, i figured i was off with that info, meh. but i would be disapointed still if FF11 doesnt make it here. If Square can put the effort in to have FF11 in japan then why cant they do that for north america? they probly figure it wont sell to good here, and they're probly right. i would've bought it easily, i'll have a job by then and $200 will be a walk in the park to dish out for the game. after playing socom and seeing how cool it is online with your buddies and a bunch of other people from all over north america, i can only dream as to how sweet that would be in FF11. i was looking forward to a change in pase in the FF series. i like the freedom in FF11, so much to do. Teaming up with your friends to kick some ass in an FF game is like a dream come true.

Yeah, I agree that FF11 sounds like a dream game, I mean like, when I read the first full preview of a game it sounded amazing. But I dont see why it needs a hard drive, like playing FF11 is almost like a PC game, you install it into PS2's HDD and you never need the disc again until you want to re-install, and how much is the PS2 HDD gonna be? Prolly around 150-200 Canadian, which is much too expensive, even though Ill have a job, thats blowing almsot a whole week's work, and I'd like to save up for a new PC, and I want an Xbox, so that there is tons. Let's not forget about monthly fees, it was like 10 bucks US in Japan, thats crazy, PSO is only like 15 bucks for every 3 months, thats half the price of FFXI, and PSO doesnt even need a Hard Drive, which is why I shall get PSO first.
I have to admit this, if FF11 was released here, I think it would flop. I'm not denying that the game sounds awesome, because it does. I mean like, say if someone wants to rent it, they need the NA and HDD, and nevermind the fees, which makes this game impossible for rental, seeing as its online only, where as PSO is both. In fact, playing PSO offline is actually a major part to your character's development.
I can already predict that EverQuest on PS2 will also flop, seeing as it too needs a HDD.
Bottom Line: Only diehard FF fans would be buying the stuff to go online, casual gamers arent gonna spend a crapload of money just to play this game. So, this is why I think FF11 might flop here anyway, seeing as Japan and US are very different when it coems to gaming.

like you said, Japan and the US are very different in gaming, same goes for internet setup. It cost that much for online fees in Japan because of the weird way japan has their internet set up. Square has to work harder and use different and more costly methods to keep the FF11 servers running smoothly in japan. in north america it will be different. It shouldnt cost $10 at all, theres even the slight (and i mean slight) possibility that Square may not require an online fee for FF11 (since they havent made any announcement yet on the amount of the fee, one can only assume that there may be none). either way, time will tell all

I think FF2 and FF3 are going to be rereleased in the Japan for the PS this month... and it will release sometime later in the US... not sure though.
