Ok im just wondering how much of a difference there could be between 2 64 mg cards....
cause.. right now im running a 64 mg geforce 2 mx
but if i get a geforce 4 ti4200 will it be a lot better or just a little bit.. could someone explain? Or gimme an analogy or sommin :P
i went from a Geforce 2 MX 64
to a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128
i cant really tell you how the 64mb will be cuz i have 128.
but thats just the amount of video ram. the main speed of the card is elsewhere. i mean of course the extra ram helps. im not sure if theres any game out that would requite more then 64mb
but to answer your question.......... there is a pretty damn big difference between the 2 cards in question.
However, theres not many games out that will truly show the difference. UT2k3 will beout soon. you'd notice a big differnce in that game. Doom3 when it comes out.
what im saying is. prolly any game you have right now. your not going to notice a big diff. because none of thoes games would requite a better card.
however you'll be able to improve in ways like Much better resolution in games. and better texture quality. MUCH better Frame rate. and it would be smoother in some cases.
(i think you better let someone else explain cuz im confusing myself even..............i got my gf4 ti 4200 128mb for UT2k3, and the idea that it would last me a while)

if i dont really need it for anything right now.. should i just wait for the radeon 9700 to come out and like wait for the price to drop? Like buy the 9700 in like january
i prefer Nvidia cards. Theyhave much better Drivers and support.
and if your gunna wait. just wait for the next generation Nvidia. cuz they'll be better then the radeon 9700

what kinda price range am i gonna be looking at?
beats me. they come in differnt version so they all have diff prices.
right now top end GF4 or Radeon 9700 are both 400
differnt versions of the GF4 range from that down to like 99
i think its the NV30 ? from nvidia thats comeing out i thought they said in the next few months. which should be better then the 9700.
prices i have no idea. prolly within the same range.

Go to http://www.buyxtremegear.com and then click on video cards on the left. They have very good prices there, with the GeForce 4 Ti4200 being the best for the value, GeForce4 Ti4600 being the best of the GeForce 4's, and Radeon 9700's being the very very best over anything else. And the prices jump accordingly for each card.
For the GeForce 4's, a bunch of companies make them, but I think generally they are all the same power-wise, just that some may come with different options and software.

ATI still haven't made themselves a UDA model though, and until then I'm gonna steer clear of 'em however good their cards may be.
