As most people who attended ECTS 2001 will tell you it total failed so what the hell made me got back this year? Well simple really the chance to see and play new Xbox games could not be missed even if there was only going to be one or two games for Xbox there I had to see them for my self.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
First off there are loads more games which really should get a write up but I really don’t feel like it as I was stuck in traffic jam on the M4 for 5 hour on the way back home from London.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
From the out set it was clear ECTS is well and truly a Sony event now with the Playstation experience almost as big as the whole Trade only show. But then again why not PS2 is the number one selling console in Europe and the rest of the world it also has a lot of 3rd party support for developers all over the globe but there were still some Xbox games on hand to make the day go well oh and as for Gamecube the words Nothing comes to mind! It was there but not much on the show floor.
As you may expect the PS2 had a lot of software on show in both the Playstation experience and the show floor. Top of the list of games I had to see for Sony’s PS2 was Wreckless and I must say for the out set I was laughing a lot the game look terrible gone are all the nice effects the Xbox version had, gone too is the drawl distant with trees popping up all over the place the game really is a joke on PS2. Next up was a quick 1v1 player action on Tekken 4 which was just like number 3 nothing to write home about but still a good solid beat um up never the less then we took time out to play Ractchet and Clank the new very hyped new platform game from Sony. To stat with I thought this game was going to be just one more Sony platformer that just does not make the grade but to my total surprises I was wrong well this game is no Mario it still plays really well and look a lot better then a little fat Plummer on other such consoles. Also had a look at the PS2 version of Colin McRae 2 which was looking better then anything seen on the PS2 before the game play was just the same as the first game a little to much for me I am more of a Arcade racer fan but the game should do well.
Gamecube, now how can I put this as not to up set too many people out there IT WAS ALMOST A NO SHOW and what as there was made of poor EA port titles. In fact only two things could save the show for Gamecube fans and that was two Videos one of Godzilla and the other off Resident evil zero. The Godzilla Videos showed a really poor looking game with poor looking graphics and animation (the game play looked no better but it was only a video) the other Video was the complete opposite with lush looking graphics and animation and you will not find better FMV in the whole world. But sad to say that’s it for the Gamecube I could go on to talk about the PS2 ports it getting but they never do the console justice
Now for the Xbox the reason I went there in the first place. First Microsoft were at the show but they were not showing any Xbox which put s a little downer on things but we will have to wait till X02 to see Microsoft new European games. Next up was even more disappointment Phantagram Interactive were supposed to be at the show but were no shows (or at lest I could not find them) so we headed off to the Inforgrames stand only to find it looking a lot like a cinema with a singe saying next showing 15 mints ok then off for a quick pint in the bar (Ok it was only 10:35AM at the time but the bar was open ). We headed back fully refreshed to be let into a small room which had 8 sits in it and a large projector screen (Like a ummm Cinema) which then showed a 15 min video of up and come game including superman and Unreal Championship. I don’t know about the Xbox Superman game it just does nothing for me at all ok it has a whole city to fly about in but that does not stop the game look boring and bland in places the game play looks nothing more the flying around and hitting things some thing I just don’t feel like doing in a game. As for Unreal this game just looks amazing and as the video showed the Xbox Unreal is looking much better then the PC’s Unreal Tournament 2003 It could have just been the videos they were showing but the Xbox game looks like it has more polygons and better coloring also going is the bad old days of body’s going half the way in the wall with just there legs sticking out now body’s full off steps or walls like they would in real life some thing the PC version was not doing.
Ok thats it for tonight I can't be assed to type any more and i need some sleep! MGf sports car or not 5 hours in stuck in a traffic jam on the M4 takes it out of you oh I also got to play Splinter cell for my self today but you will have to wait for the info on that..............LOL!
Lots of PS2 and Xbox stuff to come sorry if the spellings bad it's been a very long day.
