View Full Version : Am I the only one who hates the ranking system here?

I see the point in it, but don't think it should be around. It seems that this system of getting points for posting would just encourage people to post like crazy when they don't have anything to say. I'm a member of several sites with video game-related forums, and gamepro.com (http://gamepro.com) seems to be the only one without a damn ranking system. Why is that?

Post cramming isn't a big problem here... So I do not see any problems.

Like stated, this event has yet to come up, at least not this year or late last year. And this topic has been posted before and it probably will again, yet the answer will always be the same, it stays.

Thats because this forum isn't as massive and popular(referencing to the popularity of IGN and Gamespot) as the big name sites. So the ranking system is good! It stays!:D

Oh, it seems that no one loves me :( Well, sorry to hurt your feelings, people. If you don't want to see me anymore, I'll understand. I'll understand.......

Would this be an awkward time to welcome you to the boards?
Oh and to answer your question: It's only because GamePro is the worst gaming mag out there.:D

Sorry, this was actually supposed to be a serious topic. I was just asking if anyone else at this site disliked the ranking system, but for some reason, everyone got really mad at me. And, Mechadragon, I don't know why you think that Gamepro is such an awful magazine. I think they do a very good job, and thoroughly cover just about every new game out. Well, I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion. Anyway, thanks for kind of welcoming me to the boards I guess.
~For some reason, I put a question mark in place of a period. Odd.~

Well when I first subscribed to it(4 years ago I suppose), it was great! It seems as the years went by they started giving less coverage and previews etc. That and the fact that they only have 1 opinion on Reviews.

Like people before me said, the scenario you stated has yet to happen... I remember the last thread about this subject, and one of the reasons given for keeping the ranking system/post counts was to identify who the post crammers were when compared to the dates they joined.
Now, there is only one member here with around 13,000 posts (DsH), and the nearest one to him is TheGame with 7000 + posts. And others are around the 5000 +/-, though the only people to have reached these amounts are the ones who have been around since the Nintendodolphin.net/Ndose days.
If you compare the members post counts here to the post counts at places like IGN, you will easily see that there are 'hardly', if any post crammers at GT. I mean there is one person at IGN who achieved around 11,000+ posts in around a year .
Lastly, most people with 'high' post counts don't really type short posts, and are relevant to the subject at hand most of the time.
Sorry for the 'kind of' long post, but... meh.
Oh, and welcome to the boards... Stick around, you may change you views on the system ;).

the only thing I dont like about the rank system is the fact that you can have more posts than someone, but less stars (yes, I understand the color system) but I just kind of wish it would get re arranged so that though the colors might change, the stars would not go down.

Huh? If you have more post then somebody you will have more stars/a certain color, but you wont have less stars.
As stated in the Sticky at the top of the page:
The ranking system is based on your post count:
1) Squire (Minimum Posts: 0)
2) Court Jester (Minimum Posts: 100)
3) Able Blacksmith (Minimum Posts: 300)
4) Swift Messenger (Minimum Posts: 500)
5) Vigilant Guard (Minimum Posts: 700)
6) Fierce Jouster (Minimum Posts: 1000)
7) Strong Archer (Minimum Posts: 1300)
8) Flame Archer (Minimum Posts: 1600)
9) Rogue Knight (Minimum Posts: 2000)
10) Quest Knight (Minimum Posts: 2300)
11) Minor Lord (Minimum Posts: 2600)
12) High Lord (Minimum Posts: 3000)
13) Battle Lord (Minimum Posts: 3500)
14) Prince of GameTavern (Minimum Posts: 4000)
15) King of GameTavern (Minimum Posts: 5000)
And the new star assignments. Gold is the highest you can get for each number of stars.
1) 1 white
2) 1 light blue
3) 1 Gold
4) 2 light blue
5) 2 green
6) 2 Gold
7) 3 green
8) 3 blue
9) 3 Gold
10) 4 blue
11) 4 red
12) 4 Gold
13) 5 red
14) 5 purple
15) 5 Gold

Hey FreakyBob, I remember when I was a rousin youngster just like yourself and I had the same radical views. I worked very hard and eventually defeated the ranking systems to become an Extraordinaire. Never give up and fight for what you believe in. BTW, welcome.
