Bear with me on this one..Just a tad partial to the game.. So it might seem just a lil to positive

Nintendo has been known to create some of the greatest and most famous characters in the world. With the likes of Mario, Link, Pikachu and all other 252 PokeMon, Nintendo has a near limitless supply of franchises. Many of these franchises venture off into other genres. Mario has starred in golf and tennis games, Pikachu and his PokeMon friends have starred in puzzle and whatever Snaps was and some of the crew from 1080 were seen trading in there snowboards for jetskis in WaveRace: BlueStorm.

Now of these could compare to what Nintendo had planned for it's fans in 1999. Nintendo released Super Smash Brothers on the Nintendo 64. The game featured some of Nintendo's biggest mascots including the likes of Pikachu, Captain Falcon, Fox McCloud, Mario and Donkey Kong. Nintendo not only threw all their big franchises together but they helped gamers answer such question like "Who would win in a fight between Mario and Link?" Super Smash Brothers was Nintendo's foray into the fighting genre, but it was unlike any fighing game seen before it. The goal of the match wasn't to beat your oppenent until they had no more HP, but to beat there HP up until they were weak enough to knock off the stage. Not only were the character's moves vital to your success but also using the weapons and stage to your advantage.

Fast forward two years. Nintendo has launched a successor to it's Nintendo 64 console. Mario was nowhere in sight instead was his brother traveling through a haunted mansion. What was Nintendo to do without it's biggest star present in the console's first year. Release a sequel to the 1999 classic with just about all their big franchises in it, and that is just what they did when they released Super Smash Brothers Melee. The game takes everything that was great about the original and expands on it.

The first thing anyone would care about Smash Brothers for is the characters. There is just a certain appeal to beating the tar out of your favorite Nintendo characters. Melee doesn't fall short in the cahracter category as it features a total of 25 characers which is 13 more than the original offered. You will find all the original characters and some new ones. For the first time in Smash Bros history, the inclusion of villians such as the evil King Bowser from Super Mario games. Not only has Bowser come along for the ride but the Princess he is always cpaturing. Princess Peach is also a new playable character who is out to show the men on Nintendo that women can fight along with Smaus Aran and Princess Zelda.

The game is set in the character department but what about the other features such as the stages that played a role in strategy in the original. The stages are back and for the most part are all original stages. There is a total of 29 stages from all different Nintendo games. There are stages from the Mario Universa, the Zelda world and the F-Zero racetrack. Most of the stages aren't as interactive as the ones in the original but are till fun nonetheless.

The sound in Melee is also top of the line. It features songs from all types of Nintendo games. There are songs from Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, F-Zero and a remix of the PokeMon theme. There are also sound effects in the game. Everything from explosives to barrels make sound. The character also have some unique grunts and groans, and just to show that "Nintendo Difference" they have even went as far as to include different voice samples for the character depending on there sizes.

Once you get past all the cosmetic changes you realize that it would all be worth zlinch if the game wasn't fun. Nintendo saw fit not to mess around too much with the formula that made the orignal great. They just had one thing on mind and that was to expand the already great engine by adding more, more and even more stuff.

One of the major complaints of the original game was the somewhat lackluster single player game. Other than playing it for the hidden characters there wasn't much reason to play the original over much. Nintendo has decided to give the people with no friends even more options. Not only have the included the original mode from the first game but also Adventure mode which has you going through levels of previous Nintendo games such as Super Mario and the Legend of Zelda. They have also locked a another mode titled "All-Stars" in which you must be all 25 characters in the game on a single life with only 3 heart container to refill your strenght. There are also tons on mini games for the gamer with no friends. Nintendo has included the original "Break The Target" mode with some added ones such as the Home Run Contest. They have also included Event mode which has you go through 51 specific challenges which get increasingly more difficult as you progress.

But anyone who played the original should know that Smash Bros isn't about the single player it's all about the multiplayer fun. The multiplayer hasn't been bother too much, Nintendo has just added more options. You can now fight in special type of Melee battles such as Giant Melee which has all the competitors the size they would be if they ate a super Mushroom, or Slo-Mo mode which slows down the pace of Smash Bros. Melee also allows you to tweak the options to your liking. Want to have a battle on the PokeMon stage with just PokeBalls it's now possible in the sequel.

Melee will do any fan of the original proud. The game will also be loved by most who care for Nintendo frachises. May turn off those who are looking for a more traditional fighting game.

Graphics-10/10
The game is beautiful. The characters, the stages, the trophies all look great.

Sound-10/10
What more can you ask for. A collection of classic Nintendo songs and great detail paid to the voice samples. This game really embodies the "Nintendo Difference,"

GamePlay-9/10
The game is just as fun as the original plus more. The only problem is the same as the original once you beat the 1player mode it gets boring.

Fun Factor-10/10
This game should break the grade for this one. If you have any friends at all you must buy this game. It is just that good.

Overall- (With my new Doubloon Grading)

I know they look crappy now, but I'll add a black overtint to them later; this is only temporary.

Enjoy.:D
