Okay, sometimes my computer makes this really long beeping noise, it goes "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" for like a whole minute straight. This happened last summer too, but it never did it during the winter and spring but now its doin it again...Here are some effects:
On the front of the comp tower there is a red light with a cylinder shape above it, I notice that when my computer beeps this light never does anything, it just stays off until the beeping has stopped, this beeping noise is driving me insane and I dont know whats wrong.......CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE??!!!! I dont know whats wrong!

I think it is overheating... I read somewhere the computer beeps when it's overheated.

Computers beep when they do all sorts of things...

Is the beep a system beep (from the speaker built in to your computer), or a beep from your operating system (comes out of your soundcard/speakers)?

Does the beep occur at boot, or during OS operation?

BTW Crono, the red light with the cylinder over it is the light that tells you if your hard drive is active or not.

There could be many reasons for the beep... if it's a BIOS beep, your BIOS manual should have a beep code tellng you what different sounding beeps mean.

The beep noise comes out of the sound card right inside my comp, not the speakers, and I think it is because of over heating cuz it only happens in the summer when its hot out...but I dont know why the Hard Drive light would shut off when my comp beeps like that. The beep just occurs whenever it wants, sometimes right after i turn it on, or sometimes 30 min after its turned on....And, my fan is workin fine ,I checked it yesterday....

i've never heard of beeping because of overheating but it does make sense. think about it, it didn't do it during the colder months but when summer comes it starts getting hotter and overheating (beeping). just because your fan is working doesn't mean its not overheating. i think it probably has to do with that. if not, do like pika said and check your bios manual, though i never heard of just one random, long continuous beep before.

the last PC i had over heated like a bitch. i do seem to remember a beep. was a long time ago.

that and things would shut down and not turn on. hehe.

But i had to go install 2 more fans inside the thing one right infront of the Processor, and one near the GFX card.

altho it might of had something to do with me overclocking it... :hmm:

Well, I'm no computer expert. But if they noise is coming out of the sound card then I would say there is a problem with the sound card. There is some software I heard of that you can download to see how hot your computer is inside. Might want to search for a link on that.

I found a great little utility for measuring temp whilst in windows a while back... I'll see if I can find the link.

Hmm. I can't find the page, but here's the link to the FTP site:

http://mbm.livewiredev.com/download/MBM5191.EXE

You'll need to configure it yourself, but it gives a complete rundown of the system functions your mobo supports...

Tell you what, I'll do a screenshot for you...

If the beep is coming out of your soundcard though... it doesn't sound like a temp problem. Your BIOS handles the system temperature, so if there is a warning it should come from your system speaker (since your BIOS doesn't know how to make sound come out of the soundcard). Unless you've got something else to monitor your temperature. I dunno.

: goes off to google stuff :

Thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it. I told my Dad to call his friend who went to University Of Toronto for 6 years and knows almost everything about comps, after he's done work tomorrow he's gonna come look at it and stuff.
