June 19, 2002 - Japanese developer Quest today announced that it has sold all its development resources to mega-company Square. Quest, primarily known for its long-running Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre franchise, had already sold the exclusive rights to the strategy-RPG series to Square earlier this year.
Established in July, 1988 to make games for Nintendo's Famicom (NES) system, Quest took a hit in 1997 when key team members Yasumi Matsuno, Hiroshi Minagawa and Akihiko Yoshida left and joined Square, where they created the Tactics Ogre clone Final Fantasy Tactics. Quest continued on without the three and created games for NeoGeo Pocket, N64 and GBA -- which, despite critical acclaim, garned only marginal sales in Japan.

Square's acquisition of Quest could potentially reunite the development team with its former colleagues. While Square is mum on the prospects of future Ogre Battle titles, we expect the series to continue on Square's current target platform, PlayStation 2, with handheld and other console conversions to follow.

Well, I guess this could be good news. This could one of the first games Square makes for the 'Cube, but who knows. I'm just glad the Ogre Battle Series is going to a new and possibly better place.

I think this is sort of bad news. The Ogre Battle games were fine as they were. Now that Square's making Ogre Battle games that means that there'll be less time and people to make new original games.
