More news from Idiot's favorite Senor Casamassina:
Okay. Rare this and Rare that. You hate it, I know.
So a little good news. Well, actually, first a teaser for some coming good news.
Tomorrow on IGNcube we will reveal what the future holds for adult Link. Tune in for it.

Change of plans: Okay. We'll run with it tonight. -Matt

And some advice: Oh no. Don't work yourself up into a frenzy, guys.
It's cool news. But it's nothing that's going to change your life.

Link in SC? Kinda screws the story, but in all honesty, that would be pretty sweet.

Maybe Link stepped through another portal.
Err...sounds pretty cool, though.

IGN just posted the story, but it is Insider only. Anyone feel like telling us "outsiders" what it says...?

Basically they just say he's coming to SC2. Oh, and Link is exclusive to the GC version, with no word whether the other versions will feature any additional characters.

Oh aight, thanks. So it's confirmed now, I wasn't too sure it was true after reading the Gamers.com article but now...
But how the hell will Link fit into SC2? It will be wierd playing seeing him in it...

To sweeten the pot, I think they should also include the Ganondorf model from SpaceWorld 2000. I mean 2 exclusive GCN characters would be pretty sweet.

Storywise, he doesn't fit. But since Soul Calibur is a weapons-based fighter, he would be awesome in that game.

SWEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT.
This is good...it shows Nintendo didn't throw away the model after all. ( not that I think they would):yippie: :drum: :guitar:
Yup this made my night sorta. :D

Yeah I heard awhile back that each version of Soul Calibur (meaning each console) will be differenent... tweaked for what the system can handle and stuff... I guess that would mean extras, too... I wonder if PS2 will have any cool extras... It would be awesome if each game had a different extra character or two from one of the major games off of the system... only problem is, like almost all of PS2's major games are third party :p Although they could still work something out... right? :(
Anyways... Awesome news..... but I'll still wait and hear what extras PS2's version will have (if any) before deciding which to buy... :sneaky:

If the rumors are true, SC2 is being developed on Triforce hardware. If that's so, that would explain why Nintendo gets Link added. It could also, possibly, take advantage of the GC mem card.
I know they said before Triforce games can support the GC mem card, to access certain things.

Cool :D
I wonder what his ending (if there is one) will be when you beat SC2 with him?

Ahem, Images.
Of course, these are just mock ups from the dudes at IGN. I thought they looked fake at first, then I saw it in writing, so...

Oh man this IS GREAT NEWS! :D:D
This will be so cool! I wonder what moves Link will have.
Ganondorf would be cool.
Those mock ups are a bit simple. That second pic is the Link from SSB:M.
I wonder if he'll be able to use some other items like his boomerang or hookshot.... Dunno if the other fighters of SC use other weapons...
You think he will be a secret character? Or perhaps you can only get him by connecting with the Triforce Board (Japan only of course).
I don't think Sony or M$ has any characters that would fit in. Not owned by them anyway. :D
I just hope they find a way to make Link fit int the SC atmosphere. I mean, he can't look like he normally does. He has to look a little more real-life-like. More... old perhaps, or at least serious.
*Goes away singing* It's the end of the world as we know it.

Were there endings in SC? I forgot... I thought it was just like...
CONGRATULATIONS!
You beat the game with:
THAT GUY WHO LOOKS KINDA LIKE ELVIS IN A STRANGE SORTA WAY!
:sneaky:
Anyways... I think he'll fit in fine just the way he is... Real Life-like? Have you seen that Voldo dude? What the fudge is up with him... And then there's that Asteramadiggy or whatever that was in that mockup picture... and I seem to remember a couple more pretty weird characters in that game... If you can have weird, you can have slightly fantasy...ish... characters as well... I mean, when it comes to overall character stuff, he's just like an elf or whatever... maybe if they make his colors a little less bright... *shrugs* heh heh

Well in the DC version I think you had to beat the game in quest mode I think, to get the rea; story or something like that...not quite sure
But either way this is sweet news
*imagines side stepping with Link and chopping someone with the master sword*
;)

They will probably just add more texture to make him look less cartoonish...maybe more lighting...I dunno.

There were endings. You would beat the game in arcade mode and it would have a text ending with a few pictures behind it, different for each character. Then when you were able to get the character's profile in the museum section you could read their beginning.
The quest mode didn't have different endings for the characters. It would just give the game as a whole a little more story. It wouldn't matter what characters you used though.......
Anyway, I was just wondering what Link's background story would be. Maybe they'll thorw in a little sprinkling of Zelda story and have Link on a quest to use the Master Sword, the sword that destroys evil, to destroy the Soul Edge, the sword of evil?

When will SCII be gracing the GC anyhow?

From a business perspective, it's a very good idea. They hype up Zelda by putting it into a highly anticipated fighting game, and they give the GC version Link, which adds another "well known" character to the game. An added bonus if you like. Which will definitely make it more appealing to Zelda fans. (hence more sales).
From a gamers perspective, it may get some getting used to, but I'm sure it can't harm the game. It could be weird to get used to, but if they make him kick ass like the other characters, then he shouldn't have a problem. They have to give him a "cool" image.
You know what I mean? Like he has to properly "fit" into the game, he can't just be put there directly from SSB Melee. I believe if they do this well, then it will definitely work for everyone!
The story has to be matching as well, this is my only concern. Apart from this, I'm all for it!
And thinking about the controller, I think it will suit the game very well! So if this news is true, the GC version of SC2 will be mine.
What's next? The Sony version has Tidus, and the Xbox version has Lei Fang from DOA3?

Zelda doesn't need to be hyped :p
But I'd say it will help out SCII's sales a good bit... Although if he's just a secret character and they don't tell about it on like the back of the box or something, it might not make a big difference cuz the casual gamers might not here about it :p
And I'd rather have Auron than Tidus... Although he'd probably be slow cuzza that big heavy sword :D
But neither will happen... unless Namco is close with Square... I dunno about that though...

Fake (http://www.gamecubexl.com/new/dailynews/fullnews.cgi?newsid1023838038,73269,)
Least they say it's a fake... gamecubexl.com... they don't have a link or a quote or anything, but they said that Namco said it was false.... *shrugs*

Yeh Auron would be better. Maybe they make his sword extra big like Siegfreid or something.
But then again, they need a long running mascot to be put in the game, not just a one timer.
Maybe Crash Bandicoot, or Solid Snake.

It did sound a bit skeptical.
But the guy who wrote it sounds a bit dodgy. Isn't it on Igncube? But locked?
Either way I think he should at least tell us where he got the info from even if he couldn't give us a link (get it?)

Crash can use his Whirlwind attack. And they should give him a weapon like a fork or something. He'd kick ass.
No but when I first heard about this (Zelda on SC2), it just seemed wrong. I don't think I'll know whether or not I'll like it until I c the pics/video. So who knows wot the hell is going on.
I'm about to go to work. It's 8:10 am here. Later.

Er... I don't think Temco will allow any of their characters in a Namco fighting game. If Sony of Microsoft want to put any hidden characters in their versions (that is if there is even a hint of truth to this link story), then they can't put in mascots of other developers games .
Link is a 'Nintendo' mascot. I don't think Microsoft have a mascot... Sony might, maybe that guy in ICO :D.

Couldn't the two third party companies work something out, just like the third party and the first party (Nintendo) could work something out?
But that guy from ICO would be a good idea... I wonder if he'd use the stick or the sword ;)
But I dunno... The guy may not have said had a source, but why would he say that Namco said it was false if Namco didn't really say it was false?
Unless he heard it from some guy on a forum that claimed to be from Namco ;)
Couldn't the two third party companies work something out, just like the third party and the first party (Nintendo) could work something out? Don't think so. I think that Nintendo now has more ties with Namco than even Sony does(I think). Just my two cents. Damn! Now I'm broke.:(

No. Think about it from Tecmo's position. They have developed a fighting game too (DoA3). Why would they want to put their characters in a game that is competing with it?
It isn't in a 3rd parties interest (such as Tecmo), whether or not Namco's SC2 for the Xbox has exclsuive content/characters, it is microsofts.
Besides, I doubt Link will be in SC2 for the Gc, although it would be cool :D.

(more than 5 hours later)
Look what the mail thingy of IGN says:
Link Not in SC2?
You guys should really let the readers at IGN know that Link being in SC2 was false. According to [another] website, Namco said they have no plans to have link in SC2.
Matt responds: I saw that quote. A UK Namco representative basically said that he hadn't heard anything about that happening. Not exactly a direct denial, but even if it were, our sources on the matter are pretty solid and we plan to stick by the story.
If you remember, Nintendo said that it had no plans to drop the price of GameCube exactly one week before it did. In other words, the official word isn't always the truth.
