Note: I just thought I'd post this here first. I'll eventually post it on the GC board. :)

I'm not sure about you guys, but I've been anticipating Die Hard: Vendetta for a very long time. I've stated already that this will be the very first FPS I'll buy for GCN(providing it's gameplay hold up).

It's looking sweet too, just look!

Recently, I just got around to grabing some movies from IGN, and this game is looking great. Now, it's not perfect, because I understand many elements in the game are still early and not fully implemented as yet. But even knowing that, I still had my worried about the game's control/movement--they just aren't fluid. In, fact they're a bit jerky and seems to impair the game's playability. If you already haven't, see for yourself here:

2.4 MB movie! (http://cubemovies.ign.com/cube/video/diehardvendettagcn05229.mov) ...(You have to admit, everything else is looking super!)

These worries prompted me to PM a developer at Bits Studios(he visits IGN boards). After reading his reply, I can now rest assured once again. So if you saw the movies and were a bit worry as well, then this should be relieving for you too. Read on!

My comments--: Neil, I'm a bit worried about DH:V
I've been looking forward to this game every since I learned that it would be a GameCube exclusive(exclusives usually take great advantage of their respective hardware).

Now that more info has tricked out over the last few months, I'm extremely excited for this game. I believe it would be the first FPS I own on GC.

I just got around to downloading some movies. The graphics are awesome, and the advantages of coding exclusive for GCN is seen. My only problem are the controls. Specifically, the movements seem a bit jerky, and not seamless as witnessed in games like Golden Eye 007. I'm not talking about the lack of strafting, as you stated that it's in the final build. The movement itself, isn't fluid.

Now, I'm not a naive gamer, it's blatantly obvious that some elements in the game are still early and haven't been fully implement as yet which is likely the reason for the jerky controls. But I've had my share of disapontments in the past. You know, sometimes you look forward to a game, but there're still one or two OBVIOUS, potentially crippling elements you'd think the developer would fix before release. Then next thing you know, the game ships and nothing has changed.

Die Hard is shaping up really awesomely, it's gameplay design is ambitious, it's action packed, pretty, has a multi player mode(that I'm anxious to learn about)and I bet lots of surprises to come. As a gamer, it'd hurt my heart greatly if the game falls short of being blockbuster just because of jerky controls/movement that hamper gampelay.

Please, I need to rest easy, can you confirm that the controls have yet to be fully implemented and would be SMOOTH & SEAMLESS upon release?

I want this game to rock, Bits Studios has made all the right moves so far, I don't want the team's efforts to go in vain all because on one possibly overlooked aspect.

Thanks for listening.

Developer's Reply...
Hiya,

Thanks for your comments and interest in our games. We are at a stage of development where we are very much listening to the feedback generated through the footage released to the public, and I would like to be very clear when I say that your feedback has been taken on board, and passed to the relevant departments for further review.

Die Hard: Vendetta is still in development, and I can assure you we are making positive decisions to the feedback we receive to ensure we deliver a game that is worthy of adding to your collection. We are still tweaking various areas of the game and comments, like the ones you've passed on, go a long way to finalising the final elements of the game.

I would like to assure you that the control system is one of the most important aspects of development for Die Hard: Vendetta, and something we are working very hard on. There is nothing more frustrating than playing a game and feeling like you're fighting against the controller. So many potentially great titles have suffered in the past through poor control systems, and this is something we are particularly keen to avoid. We are still tweaking our control system for the game.

Thanks again for your feedback. We value your comments highly.

Kind Regards,

Neil

PS: I also got a reply form Denis Dyack once, but I don't think it'd be anything particularly interesting to you guys, so I never posted it.

Hey, pretty cool! They actually discussed your feedback! :D

What was the question to DD?

Angrist, it wasn't much of a direct question, it was more of a concept/idea.

His reply was short though. (lol, I was hoping to milk him for a long sweet reply) :D

Nah probably too late, perhaps nice for a sequel. IF it's not in the game. :)

He didn't really anwser your question about the jerky movements only the controls....well I guess that's better than nothing...and besides I'm sure the animation will run at a smooth rate.

Most games in this generation usually do anyway.:D

Actually fingersman, I believe the phrase 'control system', would have covered everything pertaining to controls and movements. Not just imput.
