On one hand, we have the undisputed platformer king. The king of Jumping, the Sultan of Power ups. The man, the myth , the Larger than Mickey Mouse Living Legend Mario.
On the other hand, we have Sony's newcomer. The oddball duo of Ratchet and Clank. The game is being made by the folks responsible for um you know the game.

Well from a visually standpoint which do you think looks better?
From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?
When they are both released this year which do you think will be the superioer game?

And will Ratchet and Clank be able to put a dent in the mighty plumber's armor?

Well from a visually standpoint which do you think looks better?

Visually, Ratchet and Clank looks better. The draw distance, the characters, the amount of objects on the screen. All of these factors make Ratchet and Clank look many steps ahead (visually) on Super Mario Sunshine. Less jagies and more objects on screen, however I do not think that the Super Mario Sunshine screens are high res, while Ratchet and Clank are...

From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?

Technically, Ratchet and Clank looks better. You can see the particle effects showcased beautifully with the fire embers in the air and on the ground. However, Ratchet and Clank's ground textures are absolutely horribly. Super Mario Sunshine sure does have the ground texture work right on, with the grooves on the ground and the pipes underneath (second picture).

When they are both released this year which do you think will be the superioer game?

I think that Ratchet and Clank will be the superior game in the "ratings war", but I do believe that Super Mario Sunshine will sell more units in it's first week. However, I expect Ratchet and Clank to do better in the long run. Sorry Shiggy, but Ratchet and Clank is visually superior than Super Mario Sunshine, and with all of the weapons and adventure aspects of Rathcet and Clank, it will sell in mass amounts.

And will Ratchet and Clank be able to put a dent in the mighty plumber's armor?

Ratchet and Clank will definately put a dent in the mighty plumber's armour. With the 30+ weapons featured in Ratchet and Clank, the spectacular draw distance, the superior graphics, the feel of freedom, the fact that you can explore in 8 different planets is why Ratchet and Clank will put a dent in Mario. This is a new generation, and Ratchet and Clank is the evolution of platformers. Super Mario Sunshine is a traditional platformer, which is all good, but I feel that since Ratchet and Clank involves so much more, it will be superior.

Vissualy, Mario Sunshine is better.

Mario Sunshine is technically better.

Mario Sunshine is, probably, has better audio.

In terms of gameplay Mario Sunshine is better, probably.

The visuals for this PS2 titles won't look that good onscreen, and it'll dwindle and fade away like all PlayStaion platformers, and will bring nothing new to the industry. Thank-you, and goodnight

P.s: And, from my point of view, Joeiss is speaking a load of ****. Just my opinion, and I have nothing against Joeiss (He's acctualy one of the best people in GameTavern.), but on this issue, he/she is talking complete and utter crap.

Well from a visually standpoint which do you think looks better?

I'm guessing now from all four games.... I'll say Ratchet & Clank too.

From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?

..... I'll have to say Ratchet & Clank as well....

When they are both released this year which do you think will be the superioer game?

I don't really know enough of any of the games besides Mario to tell....

And will Ratchet and Clank be able to put a dent in the mighty plumber's armor?

Same as above....

Umm... All games look better than early screenshots when they're FINISHED and on a TV...

And what do you mean it will fade and dwindle like all PS platformers? Have you ever heard of Ape Escape? Or Jak and Daxter?

Bring nothing new to the Industry? "Playstation Platformers"? So lemme guess... the only platformers that ever bring anything new to the industry are made by Nintendo or their second parties?

How the hell can you judge all that by looking at screenshots? Sounds like you're speaking more **** than joeiss, to me...

anyways... I think Ratchet and Clank looks better....

Technically I dunno... cuz Mario is supposed to have like a lot of stuff going on at once, and look really good in motion...

As for which is a superior game... I dunno... most people would probably just jump on mario... mario mario, mario is always great, nothing will beat mario... but that's not always necesarily going to be the case... IMO, J&D is like the best 3D platformer ever... that is a platform right? I dunno I heard some people say adventure before, but it seems like platform to me... Anyways... R&C is being made by the peoples who made Spyro... which I've never played... so I can't really judge by their past work or anything :p

I'll just say mario *shrugs*...

But I think that Mario has more big competition this time around than he has had in the past...

Ratchet and Clank or Blinx look the best. The Ratchet and Clank screens look best, but I've seen both games in motion, and they're both great looking. Amazing water in Blinx.

Technically, I would HAVE to give the award to Ratchet and Clank. This is on the PLAYSTATION 2! A year-and-a-half older technology than Gamecube and XBox. Insomniac did a great job in making this title look great.

I believe Mario Sunshine or Blinx will be the best game. Mario just won't be anything less than great. And Blinx has a ton of potential. I love the time aspect. Mario wins tho. Shiggy is still the man.

Mario Sunshine will sell the most, OBVIOUSLY...

On a side note, I think that Idiot's reply was idiotic... :Poke:

:fanboy:

Visually Mario sunshine is better? Did you eaven look at the screens before you said that? I think theres a reason that Mario sunshine looks bad tho, I dunno if anyone has said it yet but Im pretty sure that this game was meant to be a sequal to Super Mario 64 for N64 and Nintendo didnt feel like re-doing all the models and textures.

I think that Ratchet and Clank is visually better. I think Ratchet and Clank has the potential to be the better game if its done right but I definatly dont think its gonna sell anywhere close to as much as Super Mario Sunshine.

Ok gonna clean it up a bit. The contest will now be between Super Mario Sunshine (Representing the GameCube), Ratchet and Clank (Representing the Ps2) and Blinx: The Time Sweeper(Reprsenting the Xbox)

The contest will not play home to Sly or any 3rd party platformers like RayMan, Vexx and Crank.

The original questions remain but will be editted to include ll 3 and are as followed:

Of the three from a visually standpoint, which do you think looks better?
From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?
When they are all released this year which do you think will be the superior game?
Which will have the most mainstream appeal?
Which will have the least?
Other than Mario, do you see Blinx or Ratchet become mainstay mascots?
Which do you think will be longer? More enjoyable? Just more fun?

And without further chat:

Blinx:The Time Sweeper
The play is the thing
Blinx plays like any solid platformer. The controls are kept simple, so it can be picked up and played on the spot. The camera occasionally lags and must be fixed with the right thumbstick, but hopefully it will be tightened up in the next few months. Blinx is a fully enjoyable experience. If you take away the time elements, it's still a good, fun platformer. However, being able to control time and use your vacuum cleaner to cling to walls and climb vines, makes the game new and refreshing each time you pick it up and play.
Blinx is one of the most anticipated games of the holiday season. If it can continue to deliver on what was seen in the demo, Blinx will be a strong candidate for game of the year. Start counting down the days to winter. Blinx is coming.

Ratchet and Clank

"The clever folks who created Spyro the Dragon still appear to have one foot in the 3D platform world, but it's clear they're also taking a big step away from the slowly percolating genre. Ratchet and Clank is a platformer in the most basic terms, but it also features an array of other elements, such as adventure and RPG elements. And if you haven't already noticed, it's a shooter, too. Ratchet collects dozens of weapons and uses them to scorch, blast, and pummel enemies that stand in his way. The game appears to have a little of everything"
"Using gadgets and weapons to explore dozens of worlds, Ratchet and Clank embark on a huge journey enabling them to collect thousands of bolts (used for currency), weapons (as many as 35), and to fight against scores of freaky alien creatures. The trick is to use your weapons wisely, loading up the best one for the job when you need it"

Super Mario Sunshine
Nintendo's flagship franchise has come a long way since its inception. Super Mario Bros. kicked the 2D revolution off as one of the fastest, most impressive side-scrolling experiences around, and Super Mario 64 broke barriers and set the standard for 3D entertainment. Above all, though, Mario is not about technological accomplishments, visual standards, or anything of the sort. No, the Nintendo platformer has always shined most brightly in one obvious area -- fun. With that in mind, it's no surprise that the latest evolution of the series on GameCube, Super Mario Sunshine is one of the most polished, intuitive, purely entertaining platform titles we've laid hands on. Even beyond just the platform genre, it's a game so fun to the core you'll be thanking yourself it has no multiplayer mode to share.

It's not safe to stare directly into the sun, but we wholly recommend keeping your eyes on Super Mario Sunshine. This is the title that should have launched with GameCube. It's set to be an incredible single-player adventure with all the same elements that made Super Mario 64 fun to play and so much more. Fans of the originals will absolutely want to chalk this up on their most wanted list, and anyone interested in platform based adventures will want to reserve a space for Super Mario Sunshine on GameCube. It's purely fun, and conveys a sense of freedom like never before. You won't want to put this one down.

With our high expectations, we hope that Super Mario Sunshine will be just as long as the previous N64 version, and hopefully have more to it. In the recent drought of entertaining GameCube software, we don't want to have another first-party title that lacks lengthy.

Note:The screens are taken from a movie reel shown at e3 so they aren't at the highest of qualites not that it makes much difference.

Visually, R & P looks like the King of the Hill here. Though Blinx also has some good graphics, you can't really see them that well because of so many effects and menus on the screen. And Mario Sunshine, heheheheheheheh.....

However, it all comes down to how a game is played and how fun it is. Here, I see a tie between R & P and SMS. SMS has already been proved to be fun to play at E3, and R & P looks promising as well. As for Blinx, it isn't fun to have a cluttered up screen while you're trying to kill a boss.

That's my two cents.

Joeiss

New questions.. eh? Alright, then new answers, I suppose.

Of the three from a visually standpoint, which do you think looks better?

It is a tie between Ratchet and Clank, and Blinx : The Time Sweeper. Both of these games hold their own from a visual standpoint. They have smooth characters, and a lot of beautiful designs (as far as backgrounds and objects go). Super Mario Sunshine's objects look like they need a bit of work, in my opinion.

From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?

Ratchet and Clank looks the best from a technical standpoint. I would have to say that Blinx : The Time Sweaper is a close second, and it too has beautiful particle effects. One more note, in Ratchet and Clank, there are so many things moving at the same time. The floating cars are a great example.

When they are all released this year which do you think will be the superior game?

I really do think that Ratchet and Clank will be the superior game. On second thought (from my previous post), I think that Super Mario Sunshine will ultimately do better. I mean, it is Mario we're talking about! He has never failed to sell, and always has amazing games. Blinx : The Time Machine has a lot of potential. However, I just do not think that it's tmie is now. A sequal will do much better for it, in my opinion.

Which will have the most mainstream appeal?

Super Mario Sunshine will have the most mainstream appeal. I mean, everybody knows who Mario is. And you know what, whoever is a fan of platformers, is usually a fan of Super Mario. This game will sell systems! Oh yes, it will.
Which will have the least?

Other than Mario, do you see Blinx or Ratchet become mainstay mascots?

I can see both Ratchet and Blinx become mainstay mascots. Both of these games are bringing new, great ideas to the table. I expect that we will see one more sequal to both of them in this generation of systems.

Which do you think will be longer? More enjoyable? Just more fun?

I think that the longest game will be Super Mario Sunshine. The most enjoyable, probably Mario Sunshine. This is because no Mario game has failed before, and I really can't see this one failing. But.... I think that Ratchet and Clank will be the most fun. With all of the weapons, and the fact that you don't have to collect things to go on to different areas will make the game a much funner experience.

Euhm I just KNOW that Mario is going to be the most popular and entertaining platformer.

The others cool be good, but they don't seem to have much atmosphere. That's the problem Banjo-Kazooie had, and that's why I didn't really enjoy playing it. Never felt like playing the sequel.

Of the three from a visually standpoint, which do you think looks better?
It's either Blink or Ratchet....and from these screens shots I'll have to go with Ratchet.

From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?

I have no idea...on one hand you have two beautiful games with particle effects and nice lighting..then you have Mario Sunshine with a lot of things going on all at one time ( which is a good thing....and I'm basing this off of what Shiggy said). So I don't which would be called technically superior at this point....however...if they can get Blink or Ratchet and Clank like Mario Sunshine ...then I think Ratchet would win hands down.....if it doesn't win hands down already from a technical point of view.

When they are all released this year which do you think will be the superior game?
I'll have to play all three to make a descion on that...but from what I read I think Ratchet my have that title.

Which will have the most mainstream appeal?

I don't know it all depends on how great the game is and how the various companies advertise them.

Other than Mario, do you see Blinx or Ratchet become mainstay mascots?

Sure, why not??

Which do you think will be longer? More enjoyable? Just more fun?

It had better be Mario Sunshine that last the longest....as for more fun and enjoyable ..I'll have to .....( you guys ready for this)...play all three games. :D

First off what is a BaBby?
If you thik they are bad shots, find better ones and post them in the thread.

Of the three from a visually standpoint, which do you think looks better?
From a visual standpoint, I would have to give the advantage to Ratchet & Clank. I mean the game just looks good.

From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?
From a technical standpoint, I think it's a rather tough decision. I mean Blinx is one of the first games to truly use the Xbox's harddrive, but than Mario has such a lively and large world. I mean there are birds flying, nice sunny environment. Huge worlds and well Mario and his animation. So I would give this a tie between Mario and Blinx.

When they are all released this year which do you think will be the superior game?
I think that they will all be good in there own respect. I mean Mario will continue the legacy started by Super Mario Bros 1 on the NES. Blinx will probably give the Xbox a quality platformer and will probably give them a quality mascot, and well Ratchet & Clank looks to add more stuff to the duel character platformer.

Which will have the most mainstream appeal? Mario short and sweet.

Which will have the least?
For some reason, I see Ratchet & Clank will probably have the least mainstream appeal. I mean I thought Jak & Daxter was a good game, but it hardly got the respect it was due. So I think it may have something to do with the Ps2's fanbase, but I don't know.

Other than Mario, do you see Blinx or Ratchet become mainstay mascots?
I see all 3 characters becoming possible mascots. I think it will take a while for any o catch the levels that Mario and Sonic are on, but they should have no problem reaching Crash and Spyro.

Which do you think will be longer? More enjoyable? Just more fun?
I think Nintendo needs to make SMS a longer game. I mean thus far Nintendo has had some good games but all suffered from a short playtime. They have no choice but to make Mario long and enjoyable.

I will proabbly enjoy all 3 of them. I just love platformers like that.

Yeah, I'm late, but whatchagonnado?

Well from a visually standpoint which do you think looks better?

If Mario looked better, I would say this is unfair because Mario is on better hardware... BUT, for some reason dispite Gamecube's visual advantage over Ps2 R & C seems to look better. So R & C wins this by a land-slide.

From a technically standpoint which do you think looks better?

(runs to look at videos)

R&C looks better, Mario looks more fun, but fun has nothing to do with this graphics question. I'm sure R&C pushed more polygona, and if not, Mario's Frame Rate is 60 FPS while R&C's is 30 FPS takeing away half the polys Mario could have had.

When they are both released this year which do you think will be the superioer game?

This can't be answerd without my bias.. so I will go with the game I'm more hyped about, Mario.

And will Ratchet and Clank be able to put a dent in the mighty plumber's armor?

Howso? In sales? HELL NO :)

But I do think R & C may set the standards higher for a Mario platformer. I can only see R & C hurting mario if mario hurts itself by being crap.
