Ok, I had 50 bucks from mowing lawns that I just got.. so I decided to go get GTA3, I really wanted the game. I head on up to Best Buy, run in.. well, the game was on sale for 35 bucks, so I was happy. Anyways, I look at the system requirements, and ti says 16 mb video card. Alright, I got a 64 card in my s**tty PC at home, so I'll be all set. I meet all the other requirements. I bring the game home, install it, and then I put in the play disk and load the game.

ERROR! It says "This game requires a 128 mb video card." WHAT THE F**K?!. I head back up to Best Buy. I bitch with the store manager for about 30 minutes, and he agrees to give me my money back.. full money back, even though I opened the box.

But I was so pissed that the put a different system requirement on the system box!

Uhh 128MB video card? Why the hell would they limit the game to that few amount of users?

It's not like GTA3 has the greatest graphics anyway, PS2 could handle it, and a 128MB video card ia was above what any console can do.

I have no idea. I should have taken a screenshot of the error..

my friend said the exact same thing. i don't know why they would do that:unsure: good thing he took it back or you might have had to beat somebody up!

That is stupid... I was going to say that 16MB is quite low... But 128MB??!?!?! That is way too high. I didn't even know that video cards went up that high right now.

That's probably what I'll be getting soon... I hope.. but yeah, they do come in 128mb.

$300??!?!?!? Just buy a PS2, lol.

But if 128MB is becoming the new standard, might as well get it.

I don't think 128 is going to be the standard.

$300 is a lot -- maybe I should just get a PS2.. it would be a lot better... oh well.. I don't know what I'm going to do.

i think i'm going to get this card: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=292961

its part of the ti series and is a very good card. you get a lot for your money. it was on sale at best buy for 200$. i was going to buy it for the pc i'm building but the motherboard i want doesn't come out for 2 months so i'm going to wait and decide then.

$250 for that Ti4200? Buy this one: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=293567 .

That's $170, $80 less, and it's the faster of the two. Don't let the amount of RAM trick you (in this case). The one I gave a link to has only 64MB of RAM and the one you're talking about has 128MB, but the clock speed of the 64MB on the PNY Verto card is 500MHz while the 128MB of the Visiontek Xtasy is 433MHz.

And if you don't believe that extra clockspeed makes much of a difference (which I wouldn't blame you), here's some benchmarks to prove it: http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/02q2/020522/ti4400_4600-14.html . There are more benchmarks at that link if you look near the bottom of the page.

I bought the 64MB card and so far it is working fantastically. I bought it for Morrowind, which if you have read any of the complaints about, it has caused bad framerates on even the best of computers (which is because it has great graphics).

The only thing is that if you buy the PNY card you must download and install the newest Detonator drivers (version 29.42), because the drivers that came with it wouldn't let me use the Pixel Shaders in Morrowind so I must assume they aren't that good. I can provide a link that provides instructions to make sure you install the Detonator drivers correctly, which were very helpful for me because I screwed it up bad when I did it my own way. :p

But that 64MB PNY card is normally $200, so if you're interested I think you'll have to buy it sometime this week if you want the discounted price.

I'm pretty sure taht's messed up. None of my friends or myself have a 128mb card and we all play it.

I have a GeForce2 GTS 32mb and I play it.

yes, its wrong. i know people playing it with a 32mb card.

its something else thats making the game think something blah blah blah.

*shrugs*

but it will run on things less. maybe you need to put some updates? direct x updates ummmm gfx updates. or buy a good 64MB card would work. i know it works on a GF2 card.

128 megs??? r u sure? i no plenty of people playing it with 32 megabyte videocards and even lower. I think that it's u'r comp thats messed up, either that or the fact that it might have said 128 megabyte RAM needed

Well, if i can run it on a 1 GHz Pentium 3 with a TNT 2 with 32 MB of VRAM pretty well, then I guess anyone can. Everyone else I know who plays it runs it on a GeForce 2 or equivalent, and they've had no probs.

128 MB isn't gooing to become the new standard for a while yet. Not at £300 anyway.
