Doesn't this look too good for the GBA?

Click now! (http://www.installationcomplete.net/movies/mariouniv.mpg)

It was announced at Nintendojo, but the video looks legit. The game looks really awsome, from what little of it they show.

It's only around 900Kb, so just click on the link now!

I made a thread for this in the GBA forum, so please don't move it.

Just ask yourselves this question. Could this be a hint at the possibility of another Mario game in the works for the GC, but
cel-shaded?

Damn... That is on the GBA? That looks amazing!!! Although, it looks a bit too good to be true, if it is on the GBA. I can't wait until some more information is released.

And BTW, keep cell-shading on the GBA! Consoles are meant for graphics that everybody can love and enjoy. Yeah.

Enjoyable doesn't mean realistic...

Some people enjoy cel-shading... it looks unique and such...

And not everybody likes how graphics are becoming such a big important part... bad graphics can turn people away from games, no matter how great the gameplay is or how fun the game is...

I do think cel-shading is being used it too many games though... all of a sudden it's everywhere.. AHHHH!

The game looks alright, for GameCube or Game Boy Advance. But cell shading is getting way over done lately. Not every single game needs it, it only works on some games.

Enjoyable for everybody. Like you said, some people are turned away from cell shaded games on consoles, even though the game might be amazing. If everything was realistic, or non-cell shaded, then people won't really judge (unless the game looks like absolute ass).

I don't get it...

about 15 cel-shaded games are among the entire industry, with some already released and a few more coming...

But Cel-shading is showing up everwhere?

That's about 5 games... out of COUNTLESS traditional 3D rendered games that are already out

And about 10 games...out of HUNDREDS of traditional 3D games that are coming.

Am I missing something here?

Saying it's "everwhere" or in anyway implying that it's overused is a bit of a strecth. There's no denying that.

Cel-shading is a form of rendering just like 2D and 3D. You may not like it(now) but you shouldn't let that hinder your judgement of a game's quality or worth. They're will be games in the near(and far) future that will literally suck that negativity/hatred out of some of you, to a point where you'll have to give the technique it's respect. Just wait!

As we speak, the technique is premature, and we haven't seen anything speacial amount from it.. it's kinda just a fad right now--many develpers want to try it because it's more viable than before. Zelda will be the first serious step it really showing what is capable of being achieved. Nintendo is aiming for a "playable cartoon" type appeal, wait until developers start aiming for games of undeniable stlye and coolness that can never be fully realized with traditional 3D... then you'll learn to appreciate this form of rendering.

I think they're saying its everywhere because big franchises are going cel shaded... o at least i think. I also think that mario video looks WAY to good to be running on the gba, last time i checked cel shading is very processor intensive because the cpu doesnt know where to put the edges of the polygons or something like that.. i read that a long time ago.

Nintendo likes to lead the way and be innovative... I think that because of nintendo there will be a lot more developers trying to do cel shading in the future... and people will learn to like it i think...

You sure are...I wasn't stating that 15 is the exactly number, but you know, more or less. ;)

[edit: here you go bobcat] :p

11. Taz Wanted (http://www.teamxbox.com/screenthumbs.php?gid=306)

12. Johny Drama (http://www.teamxbox.com/gameinfo.php?id=164)

XIII. he he! :D

14. Black & Bruise

15. House of Dead 3 (this one uses the effect subtly)

So yeah, 15 is a fairly accurate figure, I'd say.

PS: I think there a Super Man cel shaded game too(no, not SM: man of steel, another one).

There's XIII, Johny Dramma, a Taz game(on Xbox), Black & Bruised, and one or two more obscure games. So yeah, 15 is a fairly accurate figure, I'd say.

No that's not good enuff Dreal. We want exact numbers ;)

But yeh I agree with Zelda being the bigger step over the others.

I think that once Nintendo set that trend that Cel shaded games takes gaming to another level (this is what I think will happen newayz, u know MO), it'll be much more accepted.

But if there was no C-elda, I'm sure there'd be a lot less Cel Shaded gaming attempts by companies.

Well when I said everywhere... I meant like in a very short period of time (I know there was cel-shading before zelda, but like after they showed zelda, all of a sudden it starts popping up in lots of games... at least it's lots of games compared to before... I think  ), it pops up in a fairly good amount of games, and in all different kinds of genres... shooters, adventures, horror-ish... racing... everywhere..... that's what I meant, kinda... Yes... :sneaky: *runs away*

I've watched the movie about 4 times, but I can tell you: that's NOT on the AGB! See the boot-up animation: "Game Boy" instead of "Game Boy Advance". Those graphics can't possible be on the GameBoy Advance, they're too good for that. It's fully 3D! And the resolution isn't AGB resolution.
Watch how Mario moves. Totally not-Mario.

My best guess is that this is a fake.

17. Trigun: Gunsmoke the Planet

That is a possibility, but a very slim one. IF this is fake, then it must be the best damned fake ever... Notwithstanding the FMV at the beginning, which mind you, would take a long time to create, there is also the quality of the actual cel-shading to consider. If this was faked, it must have been done by someone with a lot of time and telent on his hands.

GBA games always boot up saying "Game Boy". They never say "Game Boy Advance"

Ever see the Blue Rose demos? Full 3D on GBA.

Another thing to notice is that its being videotaped from a screen which appears to be at some show. If someone tried to fake it I doubt they would videotape it.

Really, why would Nintendo show footage of a new AGB Mario game, while they're working on the port of Yoshi's Island?

You say that a cell-shaded animation movie is hard to make. Well, I thought cell-shading is supposed to make it like a cartoon. A cartoon is drawn. So it's actually very easy, you only have to draw a movie.

Yoshi's Island is (like you said) a port... Not quite as hard to make as a new game... for alls we know, this is just a new game they're working on and it won't be out for a pretty long while... And this is just some early footage or something...

And that'd be some pretty damn smooth animation for a normal lil' cartoon... And then... having it shown on a big screen like they have at those game shows ;)

I mean there's always the possibility of it being a fake, but like Shadow_Link said, if it's a fake, it's like the best fake ever :p

Guys... this is FAKE... when was this video released????

I think I saw it in late 2000 (yes, almost 2 years ago)...

I'm not 100% sure... but it makes no sense

Why would the Demo say GB at the begining, and display graphics GBA isn't NEAR capable of producing?

I can dismiss all that with a wave of my hand... *waves hand*... now what proof do you have that it's a fake?

It will be fake when he can find us proof that it's fake... as in some reliable source saying it's fake... or finding a webpage that has a story on it from back in 2000 or whenever he said he first saw it... :p

But yeah those are some pretty damn good graphics for GBA... but it doesn't mean it can't do it... maybe they're using some sort of... special technique... :sneaky:

I was just joking about that Special Technique thing :p

Anyways... I agree with Nemisis... It does look like something on NGC rather than GBA... maybe there's like... a mario game on GBA... but with NGC/GBA connectivity, you can play the same game, but with much better graphics, on NGC... :sneaky:

Nah I doubt it... :D
