Wait wait wait. I've been out of the gaming um..game, for a while. What's the purpose of this? I thought the 3DS was to play 3D DS games...so why not just buy one of the other many DS versions if don't want that feature?

The name is terrible, and good to see a real world example of it!
The 3DS is the sequel to the DS
Think of it as the GameBoy Advance to the original GameBoy.

Yeah, 3DS is an entirely new console. Much more powerful than the DS as well - think something along the lines of a gamecube in terms of graphical power.
This thing is ugly as heck - but its intended audience is young kids who may otherwise break a hinge, and who aren't supposed to be using the 3D feature anyway. It looks like a toy because it is - it also looks really durable.

Honestly it reminds me of the old tiger handhelds a bit. http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/Tiger-DoubleDragon.jpg

Lol no they weren't. In fact they were the most disappointing things I ever had as a child. That and the vr headset thing they made.

They were pretty bad. I could honestly never figure out how to even play most of them. I had a Jurassic Park one, and to this day I do not know what I was supposed to be doing in that game.
Same with the power ranger's one.

I'm gonna see if I can find some cheap ones on eBay.
Perhaps review em

I held a 2DS a few days ago. It was a non-working show model (weird), but at least it felt pretty comfortable to hold.
I'm not interested in the 2DS. And Nintendo should finally integrate the second slider on the thing already.

What other slider are you talking about?

The thumb-pad I think. And extra shoulder buttons.

I imagine he means the Circle Pad (Pro), and at this juncture would cause more headaches for so little gain that it isn't even worth it
Yeah, I meant the circle pad pro. I've read the term slider used a lot so I thought it was the popular name.
Also, what do you mean, BaB? o.O Except for the secondary shoulder buttons I don't think it'd be that much of a problem.

The major issue is that it splits the consumer base between people who have it and people who don't. Any 3DS model that comes out with a second analog stick would almost be like a new console and be 100% superior to the current versions.
It would alienate too many people who have a current model.

And developers would have to make 2 control schemes for their games.
Anyway, I played the 2DS, it's a solid handheld. I still think it looks weird, with the 2 screens (even different sizes). But it lies really comfortably in your hands, which in the end is quite important. Felt better than my 3DS.

So... I picked up one of these. It's actually not bad.
