Final Fantasy Versus XIII Canned?

One source tells Kotaku that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was officially cancelled within the last few weeks. The decision impacted morale at Square Enix and staff were reportedly saddened by the move.

Square Enix, this source added, has also decided to let Final Fantasy Versus XIII die quietly on the vine and fade away, instead of officially announcing its cancellation. This would likely be due to the fact a public acknowledgement of a Versus' cancellation could impact things like Square Enix's stock prices.

I think it would be bad business to outright cancel the game since its already been in development for like 6 years. Maybe they can salvage whatever and re-brand it as like Final Fantasy XV

That's the hope, and there was even some supposed leaked footage that showed a trailer for "Final Fantasy XV" that was actually Final Fantasy versus XIII. Anyway, I'm just having real trouble getting excited for anything that Square-Enix is doing these days. It used to be that I could see their name on a game and at least be sure I was going to get something interesting if not necessarily good, but now its just like they lost all sense of direction.
