IT'S HOCKEY TIME, BITCHES.

The fastest team sport on the planet kicks into overdrive as the world's best hockey warriors shoot goals and crush bodies in conquest for the sport world's most (or at least second most) coveted trophy.

16 teams enter, but only one leaves with Lord Stanley's cup.

Discuss the action in this thread as your favorite team lays waste to, or is laid to waste by their cheap-trickin, bullshit goal scoring, less attractive opponents.

Skaters gonna skate.

Vancouver and Washington look strong so far. If the Flyers don't win tonight versus the Sabres then I'm not sure they'll be able to turn the light switch on in time. It's such a shame too with the good year that they had after making the Finals last year.

Hansen took that one penalty, but it was in exuberance.

I'm really really really looking forward to a series sweep. Tonight's game is gonna be tough, back in a pissed off Chicago.

Henrik with the hattrick. Less passing more shoot

You have to admit though, Hansen doesnt get nearly enough credit for all he supplies the team. Plus 2 games, 2 goals.

A) The Stanley Cup by far is the best sports trophy. Hands down, no argument even needed.

B) I'm excited for the rest of the playoffs this year for the sole reason that I cheer for the team with the best statistic records, and the fact that none of the other teams in the playoffs even come close to comparing.

Alright, Flyers up 2-1 in the series. If we had lost this series I would not have been surprised despite a great regular season. They just didn't seem to have it this season. However, they've looked better, despite not having a number 1 goalie (as always). I think they'll beat the Sabres and we'll see who is next.

ZebraRampage

What would be the ideal final with the teams that are in the playoffs?

Even though I'm a Flyers fan the first matchup that comes to mind is Montreal vs. Vancouver. I just think it would be good for Canada to have a matchup since they haven't won the cup since 1993.

I would have liked to have seen a rematch of the Flyers vs. the Blackhawks, but that isn't likely to happen. Maybe a Flyers vs. Canucks matchup would be good since both teams dominated their conference throughout the season disregarding that the Flyers decided to take a nap at the end haha. I know that both teams are the best represented at this forum too.

The Canucks have lost the last two games, and there is so much room on this bandwagon now. So many broken ankles.

Many fans don't seem to realize a few things, such as:

A) The Canucks won the first 3, so even though they've lost the last 2, they're still up 3-2 in the series. Great position to be in.

B) The Hawks are the Stanley Cup Champions, you'd be retarded to think it'd be easy to get them out of the playoffs.

C) The Canucks still have 1 mulligan left before they actually have to show up and play.

Flyers force game 7. I can't believe the goalie issues they're having right now. Hopefully Bobrovsky will be the future of the team.

And WOW, the Blackhawks just tied the series with the Canucks. This could be another comeback like last year with the Flyers against the Bruins.

Let's hope not. The reffing in the third got really weird with Chicago getting a pass on about 5 different penalties. Oh well!

Woo! Flyers dominate game 7 to pull off that series despite starting 3 goalies. They were too good of an overall team to lose that series, though they probably should have. Goaltending is still a concern, though they beat Ryan Miller despite that, so we'll see who the Flyers get in round 2.

Obviously this time I don't see the Flyers going down 3-0 to Boston. If the Flyers had a great goalie I'd be totally confident they'd win easily. Since they don't, I still think they'll win the series, but it won't be easy. Always how it will be until they ever get a "real" goalie. Maybe Bobrovsky is eventually the guy, I dunno.

Their Goaltending is really what's caving them in. They should just stick with one guy, and give him the confidence of carrying a team, rather than "Well, if you play like shit, we have 2 other equally [or more] qualified dudes to kick you to the press box."

I personally hope that Philly can pull it out, because I don't mind them. Plus I picked them from a hat to win out of the East. So I've got to stick with something as tangible as that.

Me and Dylan did. We re-watched it about 4 times. That chick had a great pair of tits. Definitely in the top 10 (or top 20?) of "random flashed tits" that I've seen. Plus I'm a fan of the dual piercings.

I honestly don't mind the loss. Boston needed a cup. I want the nucks vs montreal/rangers/leafs/pitts for next year's final haha. And I want them to storm through teams other than nashville and san jose. More like Detroit, calgary, chicago. It'll happen.

First canadian city to host the olympics and not win the cup the following season.

That sort of completely blew me away today when I saw that. I was so "wtf'd" over it I actually immediately texted Dylan just because I felt the need to share that insane knowledge no matter how vague.

I actually couldn't believe they traded Richards. Teams hardly (at least in my current knowledge) rarely trade captains away, because they're usually the face of a team, and a switch of captains usually happens gracefully, and not by gutting your top line.

I can't wait until Bryzgalov undoubtedly flops massively due to the pressure of a fucking 9 year contract for 51 mil. I'm not saying he's a horrible goalie, but I mean, come on, the guy's only had 2 seasons with more than 30 wins. That doesn't strike me as a safe bet for a long-term contract, especially when they have up and coming prospects. That's got to be so disheartening for them. There goes their entire future with that team.

You probably don't see any news about the Flyers like we do. Every interview Richards gave last year was lacking in any interest toward going out there and giving everything he had. Plus, this year he really didn't have any heart. The Flyers should have never made him captain when he first joined the team. He was too young for the job, and he really doesn't possess the right traits to be the leader of a team. Also, the C should have gone to Pronger when they acquired him.

Don't get me wrong though, Richards is a very good player, but we have other players on the team that will excel above his current level in the next few years. The best all around player on the Flyers right now is Giroux, which I don't think I need to back up. He's always where he needs to be in the game, and his sense of where everybody is on the ice is amazing. Some of his assists were phenomenal this year, plus he can score many goals. We also have Briere who continues to be a great goal scorer, and the line he is on, Briere/Hartnell/Leino has the best chemistry on the team. There's also hope in the youngest player on the team out of the guys on the active roster from last year, James van Riemsdyk. He really came on in the playoffs and was the best offensive power on the team. Plus he has tremendous speed. The Flyers have plenty of depth below these guys even with the loss of Richards and Carter. Carter doesn't really do much but shoot the puck anyway, so even though we'll lose a good amount of goals, it'll open up the ice for more players to fill in.

Also, they really were in need of a goaltender. It's been the downfall of the team for years. I can't even count how many goalies we've gone through. The organization knew it was the major problem with this team, so they went out and got the best goalie on the market today. We probably cleared enough cap space to fit him in with only the Carter trade, so everybody here in Philadelphia is still unsure why the also traded Richards, besides the fact that he has been lacking in what I mentioned before. There is possible news that they Flyers are about to do something big in the draft tonight, so maybe this will fill in the void from losing Carter and Richards.

We also acquired three new players. Simmonds, Shen, and Voracek. I haven't looked into them much, but they're all young, and that seems to be a new direction for the team. Good goalie, new young prospects. We'll see what happens though.

Granted I don't get the Philly media feed - but I do remember when I did see interviews of him they were sub-par.

he Flyers should have never made him captain when he first joined the team.

Agreed. The fact I was shocked with them trading their Captain away was mroe the fact that if there WAS a problem int he locker roon, or motivationally for him (which clearly both may have been real problems) why was he Captain in the first place, you know. The Captain is the face and voice of your team, if that face and voice don't want to get out on the ice, usually the coach changes the captain prior to trading - but I guess inside the locker room this would make a pretty big statement.

I really like JVR, Hartnell and Giroux. I think they'll be the building blocks of the team for sure.

Simmonds, Shen, and Voracek

Schenn is an amazing 2 way centre - at least during the jrs for Canada, he did pretty damn well. I was surprised LA traded him away, to be honest.

Voracek has the potential to be ridiculously good at scoring out of nowhere, the same way Grabner came out of left field this year. Again, surprised CBJ traded him, too. But I guess with the tandem of Nash and Carter (They got Carter, right?) that's pretty horrifying for any team in the West.

We will probably never know what was going on in the locker room, but I doubt Richards was really ever the voice that he needed to be.

I should have looked up the new prospects names before typing them here. I wasn't aware that his name was spelled Schenn, but I heard about his play in the jrs on the radio today.

And Carter was indeed traded to the Blue Jackets. The tandem of Nash and Carter will be very high octane.

Well, for the Flyers, I hope that Pronger can stay help and lead this team on with Giroux and Briere as the Assistant Captains. Though Timonen will probably retain he A. If that's the case then I hope Giroux gets the other A and eventually becomes the face of the team when Pronger decides to retire.
